19.01.2022 "There are not enough kind words to thank Shterny and the AJFN team. Experiencing fertility issues is such a difficult, isolating and draining process but the generosity and kindness of the AJFN made it that much easier. Not only did the financial assistance lift a huge burden, but the support of a mentor is invaluable. I felt so supported and hopeful in a situation that was becoming increasingly hard to endure. Our dreams of having a family became a reality thanks to the ong...oing support of the AJFN. The dedicated team works so tirelessly for our community to ensure its longevity and I believe this is one of the best charities to support." - Rachel & Toni, Bondi (proud parents of miracle twins) It warms our hearts to know that the AJFN is making a difference in the lives of couples like Rachel and Toni. We are always here to support you in your time of need *Please note, names have been changed for privacy reasons.

18.01.2022 Did you know... that the AJFN will provide a Shabbat meal for those in the middle of fertility treatment? Amongst the appointments, blood tests, scans, procedures and anxiety of waiting for results, we know it can be tricky to find the time to prepare a Shabbat meal. With a helping hand from our friends at Millee's Deli we are able to assist by providing a whole meal or even just a Challah. If you or a couple you know could benefit from a little extra love, please reach... out - [email protected] And as another week comes to a close and Shabbat is almost upon us... please take an extra moment to say a silent prayer for those that are still on their infertility journey. For those who are about to start treatment, those in the middle of treatment or for those who are nervously awaiting results. Always remember, you are never alone Shabbat Shalom from our family, to yours x

08.01.2022 COVID-19 & Fertility Treatment FAQs (information care of three of our wonderful Corporate Partners; IVFAustralia , Genea and Fertility First Can I start treatment now? The first step is to meet with your fertility specialist who will guide you on the best approach to starting fertility treatment. If IVF is the right approach for you (and this is not always the case) your specialist will help get you started. ... Are clinics safe to visit? Clinics have introduced increased infection control and hygiene measures to ensure that clinics are as safe as possible, including: * Enforcement of social distancing rules in clinics and laboratories * Protective equipment for staff and doctors * Cleaning of consult rooms following every patient * Temperature checks for everyone entering the facilities * The continuation of Zoom and tele-consults where appropriate Does COVID-19 affect pregnancies? Current research on COVID-19 and its effects on fertility is limited. However, the results are reassuring with no evidence of mother-to-baby transmission during pregnancy. The available evidence does not suggest any serious consequences for fetal development, newborn babies, or women in pregnancy. IVF Australia's advice is low-risk patients going through assisted reproduction (such as IVF) are unlikely to be at any higher risk of complications than anyone else in the population. Can COVID affect my embryos in the lab? Our embryos are incubated in sterile protected continuous time lapse incubators. As a result, they are not exposed to the risk of droplet spread at any time of their incubation period in the laboratory. For any other queries, please consult your fertility specialist.

06.01.2022 Every day in Australia, around 40 IVF babies are born. Genea believes these beautiful IVF bubs deserve to have their story told, a new story of where babies come from. So they wrote a book for them - Where Babies Come From. "Because IVF's super-duper common. It helps parents all the time. Their babies turn out perfectly, no second noses or blue slime." You can pre-order the Where Babies Come From book or download a soft copy: https://www.genea.com.au/thebook Congratulations @Genea on this wonderful book, we loved receiving our copy, and we know that it will go a long way to #breakingthestigma around infertility and IVF.

06.01.2022 While 2020 has been a year of tremendous trials and unprecedented hardship, it has also shown us some of the best examples of humanity, community and resilience. AJFN has much to be thankful for as we close out this year. COVID changed life as we know it for everyone in the world. It added another degree of difficulty for couples undergoing fertility treatments. Applications for financial assistance and emotional support increased by 190%. ... We were able to address this need with added financial aid and our Peer Support Program which matches couples with mentors who provide emotional support, psychologist referrals and Shabbat dinner deliveries.

02.01.2022 For all of us life is busy! Sometimes, we need to forget the test, the interview, the lunch date, the meeting, the family dinner, the soccer game or the grocery run. Sometimes, we need to give ourselves permission to just stop and take care of 'us' Here are our tried and tested top five self care tips:... Ask for a helping hand - you might reach out to a trusted friend who can listen, or someone who’s experienced their own fertility journey who can understand a little better. Our AJFN Peer Support Ambassadors are here to chat and provide support with love and compassion. Meditation / Mindfulness - even if you have never done anything like this before, starting small can provide great benefits and there are some wonderful websites and apps to help you along the way. Try - Ten Percent Happier or Headspace or Calm Practice gratitude - you can start small... try keeping a gratitude journal or make a gratitude board, giving thanks to at least one thing each day. Be selfish - do one thing today just because it makes you happy. Advocate for yourself - on the days that just feel too hard, honour your process. If something feels really difficult, like going to a baby shower or engaging in a social interaction that is triggering then don't go. Perhaps you could share your feelings and vulnerability with someone that feels safe. Sharing can help too. How do you take care of yourself? We would love to hear!

01.01.2022 "For many, the High Holiday season is highly stressful and deeply emotional. During my own fertility journey, this season brought up many feelingspretty much everything from hope to despair. One moment in particular that always has an effect on me is the reading of the story of Hannah on Rosh Hashana. Early on in my journey, I found that story comforting; seeing another woman’s suffering in her struggle to conceive and having her prayers answered resonated with me and gave ...me hope. But, as the years passed and my prayers were not answered, hearing the story of Hannah no longer served as a comfort but rather began to cause me greater pain. One year, as I was in synagogue and I knew the story of Hannah was approaching, I felt my heart start to race and my cheeks starts to flush. I knew the tears were about to fall. I was not looking to be reminded of my fertility struggle and did not want to hear about Hannah and her happily-ever-after tale. So I did what I felt like was the only appropriate choice I bolted out of synagogue before I could even hear the first line of the story being read and went to cry and pull myself together in the bathroom. I could not allow those tears to fall in synagogue, in public, without the shelter of the bathroom stall door to protect me...." Read the full blog here: https://weareuprooted.org/hiding-from-hannah/ - this heartfelt story really resonated with us and we wanted to share it in case it brings a nod of understanding and familiarity to you too. You are not alone this Rosh Hashana and the AJFN is here for you now and throughout the year x
