24.01.2022 Many years ago I painted this one. I might have posted it on another web site, yet this pic is rescued from an old computer hard drive so I might not have uploaded it before. Anyway, here it is again. Analogue picture quality sadly.... Cheers from Tassie in a seasonal swelter with thunder storms intermittent to add to the jollity of the occasion at this time of year.
24.01.2022 Unfinished!!! I am posting this effort because it is at a good stage. Putting it away for a few days to watch it dry before jumping back on for a final flourish... :) Oils on Linen 36 x 44 inches etc
23.01.2022 Latest #Kelpie delivery :)
23.01.2022 Greetings to America from the Tasmanians
22.01.2022 On the Easel Hi World! As promised here is the progress image of that commission I have been doing...oil on linen 28 x 36 inches, traditional presentation on keyed stretcher. (pic is watermarked)
21.01.2022 From the Book of Art about Kelpies, 1991
20.01.2022 So I stood back and figured something is missing. Mood and triangulation design needs help when tepid. Sooooooo, I added extra to make the idea talk and bring suggestion. Oil paints do not work when the conversation is stale. Getting to be a tiny bit riveting now.... might work!
18.01.2022 Hello All! Here's a digital pic of an analogue (blurry) photograph I just found in a pile of stuff. The Stable Master was an oil on gesso panel 800 x 650 mm circa 1993/94... Thought I'd share to show I've been doing pups for awhile :)
18.01.2022 Greetings Kelpie World. Yes I am getting a new studio in Adelaide. While I am waiting I am working intermittently, a bit here and there type of thing. So I figure I can share a few thumbnails. Conceptual gesture sketching practice. Cheers, PZ
18.01.2022 Hi all out there in FB land. Here's a painting I'm currently working on. Oil on canvas 36 x 44 inches - about half way there and I figure why not keep everyone in the loop with a progress report. Should be done late next week :)
17.01.2022 Finally signed! Phew! How I once did things in the 1970s
17.01.2022 On The Easel Hi! I am currently touching up my 'Kelpies' art collection for a future publication about "The Art of Pieter Zaadstra". This artwork featured here can be reserved/purchased now. The buyer may chose to be acknowledged in the book of art. Message me to find out more info...
16.01.2022 As promised here is the progress image of the #kelpie droving sheep painting among the redgums that I have worked. I am allowing it to dry before my final push to bring about a resolution. Maybe next week or later... meanwhile here are the stats: 36 x 44 inches in Italian linen on keyed box stretcher, and yes! it will be for sale. Message me for more info. (I am planning a boardroom size print as well)
13.01.2022 Hi! I'm in the studio and doing a few 'kelpies' subjects. Here's a drawing in Stabilotone 'Woody' black aqua crayon. Just practicing and sharing :)
12.01.2022 Hi to the World of #Kelpies! Just signed off. On canvas 30 x 40 inches. There's an awful lot of oil paint applied on this one :) Those who remember my South Australian days will recognise the style and technique used by me here...
12.01.2022 Hi Kelpie World! I was asked to interpret an alert working kelpie at rest. Make it loose and painterly. Check out this kelpie and others at https://www.facebook.com/killiliworkingkelpies/ Good fun in the studio - Cheers, PZ
11.01.2022 Sharing this memory - this painting now resides at Burradoo Ranch in the U.S.
08.01.2022 Hi World! Just chiming in to say I am enjoying drawing Kelpies once again. Pushing charcoal around in a flippant manner is just the thing on a wintry day. Trying to be consistent and adventurous too...
08.01.2022 Hi Kelpie World. Just practising. Letting on I welcome commission enquiries now. :) Cheers PZ
08.01.2022 I am adding paintings to my online art gallery. Check it out: https://zaadstra.gallery/product/moving-stock-redgums/
08.01.2022 Hi all! Sharing this post link at 'Kelpie Community Worldwide': https://www.facebook.com//kelpi/permalink/377989909568196/ I realise this is a closed group for members. Posted out of interest...
05.01.2022 Okay guys! Evocative drawing. We are in drought. So, on theme, how can I draw the narrative? Well, here is an example. Just whiling away the last sharing days of 2019.....
05.01.2022 Planning for a big oil painting means prepping ideas to allow imagination in tonal values. No need to detail as the focus is on spatial arrays. Here's a drawing to prep for an oil on canvas and there's plenty of dramatic opportunity and textures.
03.01.2022 Experimenting with action and foreshortening of those sheep in full coat with dog. Pays to play around with the ideas and techniques. Sharing this for conversation... PZ
03.01.2022 As you know I might take a commission if it is eccentric and if it will push my style-n-imagination. So here is the bucking bull from Queensland request. Signed off but I will tickle it as it dries. Lots of oils on linen 28 x 36 inches.
03.01.2022 Hi all! Taking a drawing into an oil offers opportunities to be bold and modern too. Experimenting here :) Cheers, PZ
02.01.2022 Well! Charcoal is great fun. Then there is oil paint. Image watermarked. It is the fashion apparently. Cheers, PZ
02.01.2022 Hi team. Just photographed. I am working on ACD action, and Kelpies action. Book illustration. Got to keep it loose and vibrant. More later..... Regards, Pieter Z
02.01.2022 Just about there in the setup before taking this canvas to the oils easel...
02.01.2022 Hi World! I have been busy doing 'Kelpie' material, yet took time out to do a collie... This is a two page spread with spaces for text blocks. Experimental. Collie is in charcoal and the sheep are in graphite, evocatively dashed in an interesting way. Anyway, seasons greetz 2019 from the antipodean wild, Pieter Z
02.01.2022 Greetings! This artwork is my attempt to capture what herder dogs looked like in those first few years of settlement. Hairy curs without tails and they did not last in the hotter conditions found at Sydney. So it was they were retired and later, with selective breeding, they rallied to become the 'old' sheep dogs to advertise Dulux paint on TV. Go figure, eh?
