19.01.2022 Here's a trio of gorgeous hand crafted knives by the very talented Francois Mazieres of Yandiwa, photographed at the 2020 Perth Knife Show

19.01.2022 So, here's what I've been working on for the last while. Still room for improvement and ideas I want to explore, but I want to hear what people think so far? The knife is an integral semi-skinner from Fred Carter in the US. 3rd time lucky! This is supposed be in HD 1080p

18.01.2022 Another recent photo shoot in the studio. This one is expertly crafted by Stuart Kerr of Boxer Custom Razors . 6/8 French Point razor in a 15N20 core San Mai (from oblivionblades), maple burl hybrid scales (from Valhalla Designs) , a red carbon shred wedge (@fatcarbon), nickel silver pins and stainless washers. Best of all, you can win this stunning one of a kind hand crafted razor. 17.01.2022 Dwayne Williams, winner of the "Best Outdoor Beginner Knife" at the recent Knife Making Awards 2020 hosted by Australian Beginner Knife Making Group. This knife is based on Ian Stewart design, using 1084 carbon steel with Ringed Gidgee scales and brass pins. Photo by Australian Knife Photography

15.01.2022 The "Dragon Knife" was made by Peter Del Raso, ground from 3/8" 440C and measures 9 1/2" with a 5" flat ground blade and an equally masterful sheathe featuring ostrich skin inlay. The main attraction of course is the art engraving by Marcello Pedini. Both sides of the handle feature deep carved hand engraving with insert "panels" using bulino method. But this is more than just an engraving, it presents an enchanted story to capture the imagination. The video sequence is another matter all together. Let me know what you think in the comments below of the craftsmanship of the knife and the video production?

15.01.2022 END 2020 WITH A WIN!!!

15.01.2022 Baohm Knives brought us this lovely Trio. Featuring integral construction of 5160 spring steel on two of these and a 1084 hidden tang with antler handles Perth Knife Show

13.01.2022 Recent photographs of the integral pillow dagger by Peter Del Raso, featuring hand engraving by Marcello Pedini. The challenge is getting all that detail as well as capturing the beauty of the mother of pearl... Let us know what you think in the comments? This is of course only a low-res version of a massive image.

11.01.2022 Pleasure to photograph latest creation from Jason Ellard. This integral damascus utility features stunning ringed gidgee on a handle that is as comfortable as it is beautiful. The blade on this one is ground super-duper thin, and "it will cut"!

11.01.2022 This is a short video production of the "Dragon Knife" photographed earlier. Knife by Peter Del Raso, engraving by Marcello Pedini https://youtu.be/wDWdxd7k7vc

10.01.2022 This amazing dagger was one of the most impressive pieces exhibited at the 2020 Perth Knife Show. Crafted by one of Australia's most celebrated makers: David Brodziak Custom Knives. Damascus forged by Shawn McIntyre MS, timber scabbard art by Carrol Ann O'Connor and engraving by Marcello Pedini. Tiger Iron hilt harvested from Pilbara WA.

09.01.2022 Peter Del Raso doesn't mess around when it comes to making knives, and here's a couple of prime examples. Big one (NFA fighter) is ATS34, 14 OAL with a small, matching boot knife , is CPM154. Both hollow ground, 800 grit satin finish, 416 guards, black G10 handles with brass and black fibre spacers. To complete the package are matching, hand tooled and stitched leather sheaths.

08.01.2022 Had the pleasure of photographing this amazing piece in the studio this last week, The "Dragon Knife" was made by @Peter Del Raso, ground from 3/8" 440C and measures 9 1/2" with a 5" flat ground blade and an equally masterful sheathe featuring ostrich skin inlay. The main attraction of course is the art engraving by @Marcello Pedini. Both sides of the handle feature deep carved hand engraving with insert "panels" using bulino method. But this is more than just an engraving, it presents an enchanted story to capture the imagination.

08.01.2022 Sam Towns, Bladesmith forged this striking tomahawk (pun intended) in 1070 high carbon steel with spotted gum handle and jarrah wedge. As seen at the Perth Knife Show

07.01.2022 Shawn McIntyre MS, one of the best knife makers in Australia and one of only two Aussie Master Smiths. This San Mai Damascus sports one of the most stunning pieces of burl we've ever seen. The knife's been in the editor's private collection for years, skills to photograph it properly only recently acquired :-)

06.01.2022 Blast from the past, John Jones crafted this semi skinner in 1992, featuring scrimshaw by maker's own hand. True master of the craft.

04.01.2022 Busy week in the studio this week. Jarrod Kelley of Nomad Knives made this18cm Nakiri in 52100 with black stabilised hybrid burl and brass fittings. The resin end of the handle has just enough sparkle to make you look twice but the patina on the blade is like an "inkblot test" to my eyes. Let us know what you see (so we can all psycho-analyze you;-)

04.01.2022 Another gem from the Editor's collection. This elegant, all stainless liner lock was made in Melbourne by Bruce Crawley around 2002 and engraved by Phil Vinicombe. The execution of the design and fit and finish is impeccable; the action and the way the blade fully disappears and completes the elegant lines in the closed. Sadly, this is the only known example of liner lock made by Bruce, as he passed away not long after. His spirit lives in steel and his designs will continue to inspire generations of makers yet to come.
