25.01.2022 Two Bridges, Two Photographers, One Sunset 57 kilometres apart as the crow flies and photographing the same sunset. - Cheers, Rusty & Bernie

23.01.2022 Shorncliffe Saturday - We popped the drones up on the weekend after Shorncliffes spectacular sunrise was over for our big cameras. Shooting into the sun and reflections is a bit of an ask for the drones little camera, but hey, they do OK and they are a heck of a lot of fun to fly! *Shared from Instagram #shorncliffepier #sunrises #sunrise #landscapephotography #shorncliffe #mybrisbane #moretonbay #dji #djiphantom4pro #aerialphotography #aerialphoto #visitqueensland #visitbrisbane

22.01.2022 With the weekend's official opening of Brisbane's newest Art Gallery Gallery 6 31, we now have samples of our Canvas, Floating Acrylic and traditional Matte & Frame image presentations on display. Gallery 6 31 is open Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm at 6/31 Thompson Street, Bowen Hills Brisbane. Our works on display are available for immediate sale, but should you require something specific, a different image or a custom frame for example, we are happy to make a time to meet you right next door at Art House Reproductions where our images come to life in print.

22.01.2022 At AustralianLight we pride ourselves on our level of customer service. So when asked to decorate a home WITHOUT making any holes in the walls, we were more than happy to come up with a solution.... ;)

21.01.2022 Wind played havoc with this afternoons sunset location. Far too much sea spray landing on the filters. So it was a last minute relocate to a different headland. No time to mess around, I plonked the camera down, chucked on a 10stop ND and ND Grad. I hadnt calculated the exposure, so I licked the tip of my finger, held it to the breeze and it felt like 10 minutes. ... The exposure is still going..... This pic is going to be rubbish! lol Russ

21.01.2022 I just want to share last night's amazing sky with you all. We had a storm go through the Gold Coast/Brisbane area just before sunset and the timing of these storms always bring a chance that something like this will happen after it passes. Sadly I wasn't anywhere special for a landscape pic, but the colour & form of these Mammatus Clouds alone make this worth the share. Cheers, Russell... Higgins Storm Chasing South Brisbane Storms

21.01.2022 Headed off to Darwin last night for some photos around the top end, only to have my flight cancelled due to a "little stormy type thing" called Marcus. Will try again next week. ;) Rusty

19.01.2022 AustralianLight is stoked and proud to have one of our images featured on an official Australian stamp issue commemorating Australian Bridges and the engineering achievements behind them. In particular, Brisbane's heritage listed 75-year-old Story Bridge will for the first time be featured, and with our image! https://www.australianlight.com.au//story-bridge-to-featu/ Make sure to check out the "Australian Bridges" collection by AusPost and the Brisbane Times article (http:...//www.brisbanetimes.com.au//story-bridge-to-feature-o) introducing the new stamps. The collection itself is due to be released on the 15th of March and will be available until sold out. Bernie will be buying most of the stock, so make sure to get in while you can and help commemorate Brisbane's famous landmark, even though this just might be the smallest size that AustralianLight will ever see one of our images released at! :)

19.01.2022 Wind played havoc with this afternoon’s sunset location. Far too much sea spray landing on the filters. So it was a last minute relocate to a different headland. 19.01.2022 Bernie and I are out and about early in BrisVegas this morning. Sadly it was another one of those colourless mornings. But hey, at least we are out and about with the cameras. ;) #brisbane #city #citylife #reflection #reflections #river #landscapephotography #dawn #goldenhour

19.01.2022 "A Winter Treat" https://www.australianlight.com.au//latest/a-winter-treat/ It was certainly a treat for many to have snow falling as far north as the Queensland border areas, but it was an extra special treat to have snow at one of our favourite places to photograph.... Normally an Autumn location with its colourful leafy surrounds and bright red vine, the Gostwyck Chapel looks equally as beautiful when sprinkled by a shower of light winter snow. - Cheers Russell #gostwyck #church #snow

18.01.2022 Changing Moods - Just a few of the images from this mornings shoot at Shorncliffe Pier. *Shared from Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/australianlight/

18.01.2022 Storm season is here and I've been chasing radar blobs around SEQ in the hope of being in position to capture a supercell landscape panorama. No luck so far, but the season has only just started. :) To get us in the mood though, here's an image from last night that I call "1.21 Gigawatts!"... Cheers, Russell. 16.01.2022 'Along the Razorback' australianlight.com.au//latest_releas/along-the-razorback/ A perfectly timed early-season snowfall! I often think that the ski season opening dates in Australia err on the side of optimism, unlike our Kiwi cousins across the other side of the Tasman whom let Winter have a bit more of a chance before opening their ski fields! In saying that, 2015 proved to be a lucky opening weekend here in Oz, with some reasonable falls across the Australian Alps - pro...viding an opportunity for all those early bird skiers and boarders to carve some early Winter turns. Realising I was due for a knee operation in mid June, I grasped at the opportunity to head out for a quick weekend of shooting and to make the most of my mobility - and what better way than to hike out along Razorback Ridge and spend the night in this stunning location. Even though the weather turned foul in the early hours of the next morning, it didn't wipe the smile off my face as a result of being out in the fresh mountain air and being able to shoot some fantastic conditions. - Bernie

16.01.2022 It's always nice to see our images finished so professionally by Mark at Art House Reproductions in Brisbane. (This shared post is from his Artist's Selling Page) We are often asked why we don't do the acrylic mounting and framing ourselves? Well, the answer is simple..... Let the very best do it! Image finishing, especially 'reverse mount acrylic', we consider to be an art within itself. If requires lots of practice, nerves of steel, the very best equipment and a "NASA li...ke" clean environment. Now if you could see the state of my office you would understand why that last point alone counts me out. ;) - Cheers, Russell.

15.01.2022 Very sad news. Our condolences to family, friends and all those effected by this tragic loss.

15.01.2022 A quick snap on my phone of the vista I got to shoot this evening - Razorback Ridge, Mt Hotham. Not quite as much snow as I'd hoped for but still such an awesome place to be. Happy long weekend!

13.01.2022 Well it's been a long time between drinks for us on our social media pages, but we are busy again on Instagram and have just linked it to this Facebook page. So hopefully we have pushed all the right buttons and pretty soon you will see this page spring back to life with some shared image content. Wish us luck. ;)

13.01.2022 First published 5 years ago, we think our '10 Tips for the Landscape Photography Beginner' still hold pretty true for today.... https://www.australianlight.com.au//10_tips_for_the_lands/ #landscapephotography #tips

11.01.2022 Out exploring Coombabah Wetlands on the Gold Coast this morning. I've been spending far too much time driving the desk of late and need the exercise. Plus, walks like these not only allow the discovery of new photo locations for our gallery, but also provide a welcome opportunity to dabble in a favourite hobby of mine... lPhoneography. I just love the challenge of creating images with something as simple (and at times restrictive) as a phone camera and its on-board apps.... This panorama is from the boardwalk that leads to the bird hide on the edge of the lake. Cheers, Russell

11.01.2022 ‘Two Bridges, Two Photographers, One Sunset’ 57 kilometres apart as the crow flies and photographing the same sunset. - Cheers, Rusty & Bernie

11.01.2022 AustralianLight is now on Instagram and we have shared our first couple of images. As you will no doubt be aware, we are not the most prolific social media users, but all the cool kids tell us that has to change. But with Facebook, Twitter, G+, LinkedIn and Instagram etc to look after, I'm not sure how much time would be left for photography?... You know, I remember a time when all you did was put an ad in the Yellow Pages! lol So anyway, if you are an Instagram user, please don't be scared to give us a follow. Cheers, Russell. (The "old guy" at AusLight) ;)

10.01.2022 'Gondolas sul Canal Grande' Gondolas on the Grand Canal Venice with the Santa Maria della Salute seen in the background. Venice is a photographer's dream with yet another new image waiting around each and every corner. Sadly though, my time in Venice was spent in the pouring rain and it made photography very, very difficult.... This image I shot before well before sunrise with the clouds illuminated blue from the pre-dawn light behind. The lighting on the gondolas and buildings is a blend of that blue filtered sky light and a stark orange coming from the city lights. This harsh combination of blue and orange I found not to my liking, so I have opted for a more "art like" tri-tone effect. I personally think that it fits the aged subject matter rather well and I hope you do too. - Russell *This image has been added to our Overseas Travel Gallery at https://www.australianlight.com.au//gondolas-sul-canal-gr/ #venice #gondolas

09.01.2022 'The Road Less Taken' https://www.australianlight.com.au//l/the-road-less-taken/ One from a little earlier in the year, right near the end of Autumn. I was pretty lucky to be able to get up above the cloud that engulfed me throughout the morning, deep within the valley below. These awesome clouds rolled endlessly over the hills below me; turbulent and like a constant chaotic flow of water, whilst being hit by the rising sun waking & bringing Falls Creek into a new morning.... Cheers, Bernie

09.01.2022 I'm sorry, but why does everyone rave about the Darwin sunsets? I don't get it ;) lol (*Unprocessed Camera JPG)

09.01.2022 ** Click image for panoramic view ** Christmas is gone and Hot Cross Buns are on the shelf, so it's the time of year that (not so) young Landscape Photographers turn their mind to Autumn. Each year we venture out in search of colourful leaves and each year it's never as easy as we hope. With the changing climate each species of tree is reacting a little differently and the timing has become more & more difficult.... Where we once found fields of colour, we are now finding some trees bare while others are yet to change. So our question to you is "Where is Australia's best Autumn colour? " But before you answer... We know Bright is amazing and New England is popular for Poplars. But where do we have a range of Autumn colour that is not restricted to town centrals or parks? Does Australia even have an "Autumn Wilderness" somewhere or is that purely an overseas thing? Let us know your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below. 08.01.2022 Multiple short exposure in-camera stacking to create smooth water and sky. The result is posted in the comments below.... *Please excuse the poor audio quality.

07.01.2022 'The Wanaka Tree' - Wanaka, New Zealand Following on from our Tower Bridge (London) post, now might be a good time to mention that we recently began to include Overseas Travel images in our gallery. AusLight's primary focus will always be on the fabulous Australian landscape, but with Bernie and I overseas from time to time, we think it would be a little silly to leave those images just hidden on a hard drive.... See our travel images at https://www.australianlight.com.au//categ/overseas_travel/ and please drop back regularly to view the most recent releases. #wanaka #wanakatree #newzealand

07.01.2022 Fractured Earth - In keeping with Bernies wet weather Instapost, here is one from our adventure in NZ. It was unbelievably wet at this location and difficult to get a shot, but eventually the rain eased a touch and I could vanish the remaining drops with a long exposure. #rainforest #green #mountainstream #creek #stream #waterfall #waterfalls #newzealand #travelpics #natureshots #travelphotography #earthpix #justgoshoot #chasingwaterfalls #earthfocus #beautifulplace #beautifulplaces

07.01.2022 Todays quiz: A neutral density filter was not used and it was the middle of the day. So how did I create the smooth water and flowing clouds? Comment your answer below. #towerbridge #london #unitedkingdom #longexposure #historic #architecture #architecturelovers #thames #cityscape #londonlife #travel #travelphotography #amazingplace #visitlondon #travelshots EDIT: This is our first share test direct from Instagram. Looks like we may need to find a way to boost the image quality of what comes across on the share. We'll work on it. ;)

06.01.2022 'Ridge Runner' https://www.australianlight.com.au//latest_r/ridge-runner/ The hecticness of day-to-day life makes it so easy to forget the vitality and energy which even the shortest adventures can infuse into us. For me, it's especially found in the silence and vastness of the mountains. ... A perfectly timed early-season dusting of snow was enough to transform the mountain tops and ridges around Mt Hotham and Mt Feathertop, signalling the definitive arrival of the Australian Winter. I couldn't have thought of a better way to soak it up than to hike out along Razorback Ridge and spend the night in this stunning location. Cheers, Bernie

06.01.2022 "Jacaranda Trees are impossible to photograph!" ....said the frustrated photographer trying without success to create an effective composition. Every time I get close to these beautiful trees, I find the flowers far to sparse to make for an appealing photo. :( So this morning I followed the advice that I so often give to new photographers... ... "When you can't create the image that you have in mind, look closer and find the images that are hidden inside." So venturing into the soft light under the Jacaranda's canopy, I found this single flower resting on a branch. I liked it, as it reminded me of a caterpillar inching its way along. - Russell

03.01.2022 Yesterday I posted about how I was waiting for some golden sunset light on Nourlangie. Well, I got a little more than I expected. This is just from the iPhone, so I cant wait to process the camera file with this one. ... Russ

03.01.2022 'Pumicestone Dawn' https://www.australianlight.com.au//late/pumicestone-dawn/ It was quite an overcast morning and very light showers were falling. It was the kind of morning that's just too easy to roll over & go back to sleep.... Thankfully though, I forced myself out of bed, made the short drive from Bribie Island over to Turner's Camp (at the other side of Pumicestone Passage) and was welcomed by this fabulous pre-sunrise light. Cheers, Russell. #sunrise #sunset #photography

03.01.2022 'Fall Into Darkness' - Killarney Glen, Beechmont, QLD. https://www.australianlight.com.au//la/fall-into-darkness/ A beautiful waterfall and gorge located in the Gold Coast Hinterland, is a favourite, yet secretive location with local photographers, thanks to it's heart shaped rock lagoon at the base of the falls.... I always like to try something different however, so here I have concentrated on the water's path, prior to it disappearing into the darkness of the heart lagoon below. This site has a long and public history, as the owners battled the Military and successive Governments to maintain public access to the falls and their surrounds. Currently, the situation is yet to be fully resolved and the original owner's son maintains a strong vigilance over the site. It is his strong belief, that this site must be made known and must continue to be utilised by the public for recreational purposes including photography, as only photographs can display the beauty of this area to those yet to visit. It is his hope, that with awareness, a concerned public will be willing to rise to protect this area should efforts be made to restrict access once more. - Cheers Russell

01.01.2022 Who says that we never take selfies? We had the drones out for some early morning flight training at Bribie Island Qld not too long ago and look forward to adding some aerial landscapes to our gallery in the not too distant future. So now that you know what we look like, we expect a few G'days when you pass us in the street. ;)... #dronephotography #dji

01.01.2022 Hows this for big? Thats a 4m x 1m mirror wrap canvas print, hot off the presses at our good friends Art House Reproductions (and inkjetlab.com.au) Not wanting to sacrifice image quality we have created this image as a high resolution, multiple image stitch for our client. I have to take my hat off to Bernie for this one, as the quality and detail in this image is nothing short of amazing!... As Mark at Inkjet Lab commented.... I can read the expry date on the cornflakes packet in one of the units. nice work. - Mark This and 4 other very large (just teeny-weeny 2m ones in comparison) will soon be winging their way to their new home in China. Cheers Russ
