17.01.2022 We had an exciting day of workshops at Emerald High School on Wednesday. 85 kids, most keen and great writers. Thanks to Aleesah Darlison, Pam Rushby, and Allison Paterson for helping to make it a huge success. We are looking forward to receiving stories from the participants to go in their annual anthology. We were so busy we forgot to take photos. A much smaller group at our Open Day in Rockhampton yesterday but some very good and keen writers. We did manage to get a photo of that one.

14.01.2022 We've had enquiries about workshops so have decided to take them online for now and give a free assessment of your work-in-progress. Go to our workshop page to see what is coming up. The first one is on the one thing you must get right. DEVELOPING OUTSTANDING AND MEMORABLE CHARACTERS - With a free assessment of your work-in-progress. Character is the most important element in all stories, from picture books to memoirs and adult books. If your readers don't relate to or care about your character after the first page, they will stop reading. http://www.gondorwriterscentre.com/workshops.html

08.01.2022 Writing tip: We are told and tell others that you pick up more problems in your writing by reading it out loud, but sometimes that doesn't help as we tend to re...ad what we know should be there. I have discovered a better way. I downloaded Office 365 and found that under the Review tag, Word now has a Read Aloud feature. When you click on that, a voice reads the words to you. It reads exactly what is there, so you hear what is missing, and what has been left in by mistake when you edited etc. Listening to the story this way, you also hear when a sentence is clunky and needs changing. You can stop and start it as you edit. It is a great tool. I know that there are read aloud apps that you can add to your computer but this one is right there and all you have to do is select it. I recommend it highly.

06.01.2022 Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus scare we have cancelled the August CQ Literary Festival. I hope all our wonderful schools in the district remain virus free. See you next year.

01.01.2022 I hope your new year brings you everything you desire.
