18.01.2022 Heulandite This comb shape crystal of the zeolite mineral, Heulandite, was found in what is known as the Garrawilla volcanics, in central north N.S.W., in the 1970’s. During this period, beautiful clusters of this and other zeolite minerals were found in the crevices in basalts of the area, and were on display in ‘Heads Mineral Museum’ near Coonabarabran. #aus_mineral #australia_minerals... #mineral #mineralcollection #mineralcollector #mineralogia #minerals #mineralogy #nature #mineral_collecting #australia_made #earthwonders #crystals #minerals_passion #minerals_australia #explorehahndorf #hahndorfsouthaustralia #hahndorf_southaustralia #visitadelaidehills #adelaidehills #hahndorf #hahndorfsa See more

11.01.2022 Native Silver When this first came to public viewing at the 1983 Gemboree at Broken Hill, some major Australian dealers considered that the crystallization was so good that it must have been made artificially. But no, it was of natural occurrence, from a gossanous pipe at the Elura Mine near Cobar. @ Australian Minerals

11.01.2022 Dioptase An uncommon but very beautiful emerald green copper silicate from the Tsumeb Mine in Namibia. Specimen material came on the world market in the early 1980’s, but since the closure of the mine in the 1990’s has become rare and is now considered one of the group of ‘most collectable minerals of the world’. The green dioptase usually occurs as crystals nestled amongst white calcite rhombs, or as smaller crystals sprinkled over white calcite. #mineral #mineralcollection... #mineralcollector #mineralogia #minerals #mineralogy #nature #rocks #mineral_collecting #earthwonders #crystals #minerals_passion #minerals_australia #explorehahndorf #hahndorfsouthaustralia #hahndorf_southaustralia #visitadelaidehills #adelaidehills See more

08.01.2022 Scholzite (a rare zinc phosphate) This one is from Reaphook Hill in South Australia, which has produced some of the world’s best specimens of this mineral. This locality was specifically worked for specimens during the 1970’s.

07.01.2022 Plumbogummite An uncommon, hydrated phosphate of lead and aluminium, the lead coming from the underlying Pyromorphite in these specimens, which also provides the barrel shaped surface structure. These items are from the Daoping Mine, Guilin, Guangxi province, China, and some flats of these came on the market at the Tucson Mineral Show, 2020. #aus_mineral #australia_minerals... #mineral #mineralcollection #mineralcollector #mineralogia #minerals #mineralogy #nature #rocks #mineral_collecting #australia_made #earthwonders #crystals #minerals_passion #minerals_australia #explorehahndorf #hahndorfsouthaustralia #hahndorf_southaustralia #visitadelaidehills #adelaidehills #hahndorf #hahndorfsa

06.01.2022 From the Burra open cut; the late 1970's workings: Colliform chrysocolla amongst slender, bladed azurite crystals with massive malachite

05.01.2022 Jade is not always green. That is the most common colour. Jade can be black, purple, grey, yellow, even white, or it can be a combination of colours with beautiful patterns, such as is seen in these examples from Cowell, on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia. The Moss like patterns are the dendritic growth of manganese oxides into the nephrite jade. @ Australian Minerals

04.01.2022 This week we are focussing on Gypsum. Australia, especially South Australia is noted for its many varieties of GYPSUM occurring in many forms and colours and from scores of locations. The crystal form of GYPSUM is often called SELENITE. Shown Gyspum specimens in order from 1 - 7.... 1. Fossil. Turritella sp. she'll replaced with clear selenite (gypsum). Near Waikerie S. 01.01.2022 Wulfenite (a lead tungstate) Very little wulfenite has been found in Australia, with most of the specimens coming from Whim Creek, in the Pilbara of Western Australia. This, and a few other specimens, many associated with malachite and chrysocolla, were mined by collectors in the 1970’s and the locality is now a large open cut.
