21.01.2022 World’s oldest cat dead at 31 He lived life to the feline fullest. Rubble, long considered the world’s oldest cat, has passed away at the age of 31 or 150 in human years, according to People magazine. He was an amazing companion that I had the pleasure to live with for such a long time, said his owner, Michele Heritage of Exeter, England. Now 52, Heritage was given Rubble as a gift for her 32nd birthday.... He was part of a litter of cats that my sister’s friend had and I had just left home, she recalled. I was lonely living on my own, so I got him in as a kitten. Heritage attributed Rubble’s longevity to her doting care and attention. I have always treated him like a child, she said. I don’t have any children and had another cat who passed at the age of 25. If you care about something, no matter what it is, it does last. Rubble’s condition suddenly began to falter towards the end of his life and he eventually stopped eating and would only drink water. He was a creature of habit, she added. [He] had his favorite places to sleep and liked his food, so when that stopped happening, we knew. The aged feline recently left home one day and never returned. We believe he went off to die as cats do, Heritage told People. (Thanks Bob @ Pet News) See more

09.01.2022 While scientists are trying to find a vaccine for COVID-19, the rabies virus continues to kill 59,000 people every year. But unlike COVID, a vaccine has existed for more than a century. Vaccinating dogs can stop the spread to humans, but systemic challenges make that easier said that done. In a new study, scientists where grassroots campaigns to stop rabies work -- and where they need to be coupled with large-scale efforts.

07.01.2022 Gumtree was a waste of time. Cat or Kitten buyers beware!! Hello Brian, Thanks for your email.... My name is Greg and I am a compliance agent for Gumtree. I’m very sorry to hear about this. Gumtree aims to facilitate pet trade in a safe, responsible and successful manner that benefits both people and pets. Animal welfare is a huge priority for Gumtree and that is why we work in collaboration with the Government, law enforcements and animal welfare organisations. With that being said, most of the content on Gumtree comes from other users; we do not guarantee the accuracy of postings or user communications or the quality, safety, or legality of the goods and services on offer. Due to the vast array of items offered for sale it isn't feasible for us to have applicable warnings and guidelines for each one. Instead we have the blanket statement at the top of our Terms of Use - "As a condition of your use of Gumtree you agree that you will not: violate any laws". The onus is on the person buying or selling the item to be aware of any conditions of that sale. I'm very sorry I couldn't be more helpful in this case, but please let me know if there is any other way we could assist. Kind Regards, Greg Gumtree Australia http://www.gumtree.com.au

06.01.2022 Ancats executive and management committee have taken the decision to cancel all shows in regions where there are out breaks of the Covid-19 Virus, this means that New South Wales and Victoria initially, cat shows will not be presented by Ancats in 2020. Your management team feel this is the only responsible decision to protect exhibitors and members from this horrible virus, so many of folk attending shows are in susceptible age bracket and a cat show is not worth the risk. W...e have all witnessed how quickly the virus can take hold, Ancats will not encourage gatherings of people and take the risk of someone catching/spreading Covid-19 Our cat shows in the past, have been an enjoyable day with likeminded friends and a very interested public visiting the event. That has gone, no public to promote your breeds to, keeping your distance, no family participation, limited judges due to boarder closures and 14 days quarantine and I feel no fun All other regions at this stage are gearing up for shows over the next few months, and if there are no outbreaks, and governments keep boarders open, these regions will proceed as things are just now. 05.01.2022 It is a sad world that in this time of uncertainty that the scammers come out to rip folk off who are wanting a kitten. As Australia's only national registry we are well known across the country. Gumtree require that to advertise a kitten for more than $500 you need to be a member of a club. other outlets don't even require this. If you ever see an add for kittens that may be unregistered, too young and not desexed there is a way to check the advertisers credentials. Go to ht...tp://www.petassist.com.au/OnlineShowE/MemberPrefixes.aspx Be sure to ask the seller for their name and address. then you can check the list where you will see members registration numbers, their prefix, state and family name. If any information you are given please compare it to this list if it does not match, THEN DO NOT purchase. This list can be accessed on your mobile phone. if you are in any doubt, email [email protected] Regards. Brian Edwards National President. PS where possible collect your kitten from the breeders home. See more

05.01.2022 Oops revised judges assignments for our show. Schedule at www.ancats.com.au National event calendar.

03.01.2022 Evening team. i have just written to Gumtree in respect of so many cat traders quoting Ancats membership with a bad guess at a number, or joining, and never registering any breeding cats. as our team find them we move them out. My letter to Gumtree As Ancats is the only National cat registry, many people are guessing a membership number so as the can advertise with you for big dollars. some join us and never register kittens, they just want a number. Could you place a warning... on the pet pages advising that potential buyers from someone advertising kittens/cats that they should contact Ancats 1300 PET CAT to check the credentials of the seller if they state they are Ancats members/breeders. This would be a great public service, and save a lot of heart ache to buyers when they discover they have been exploited with often unwell and unregistered cats & kittens. Our key personal have all member numbers and names on mobile phones and can give advice immediately I hope you will give some consideration to this issue that will weed out cat traders. 03.01.2022 121-2020 Amendment to 105-2020 COVID-19 impact on Cat and Dog arrivals into Melbourne International Airport By adminaccess_time9 hours ago Who does this notice affect? This notice is for all airlines, freight forwarders, pet transport companies and importers of cats and dogs to Australia. This information supersedes information contained in IAN 105-2020.... What has changed? The COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria has continued to impact some international passenger flight routes and space availability for companion animals arriving into Melbourne. Incoming cargo flights have continued to carry companion animals and arrive directly into Melbourne. The current COVID-19 pandemic does not change the existing risks posed by diseases of biosecurity concern to Australia or the need for cats and dogs to meet the import permit conditions in full. This includes the requirement for cats and dogs to arrive directly into Melbourne International Airport, excluding dogs and cats exported from New Zealand, or dogs holding an assistance dog permit. The department may consider re-exporting or euthanising animals that do not fulfill this requirement. The department is working with all animals diverted mid-flight to establish alternative arrangements. Post Entry Quarantine facility (PEQ) Mickleham Due to current operational demands the PEQ facility is close to capacity and has a limited number of places available over the next two months. Pet importers and agents are advised to make flight arrangements and PEQ reservations from mid-September onwards as soon as their import permit is approved. The department requests that no animals be loaded for transport to Australia until confirmation that flights can land at Melbourne Airport. Animals cannot be transhipped to Melbourne on a domestic flight from another Australian port. Pet importers and owners must secure an airline booking directly into Melbourne Airport and are advised to confirm both the flight arrival date and the PEQ reservation date to receive their animal before being exported to Australia. Please email [email protected] if you wish to amend a PEQ reservation due to flight disruptions. Pet importers and owners will continue to be responsible for arranging the collection of their animals from the PEQ whether in person or by engaging the services of a local pet transport company. Please check relevant state or territory government websites for interstate travel movement restrictions. Further information Importers are encouraged to check our website regularly or subscribe to our mailing list for up to date information as import conditions can change without notice. If you require further information, please call 1800 900 090 or email Imports. Thanks Pet industry news. Brian
