13.01.2022 Pool safety is top-of-mind for many parents. But while we all know the importance of adult supervision and adequate fencing to keep our kids safe, you might not have given any thought to dangerous spiders that can wander into backyard pools! Don’t assume that a spider on the pool bottom has drowned. Funnel-web spiders can’t swim but they can trap small air bubbles on hairs around the abdomen which can extend their underwater survival for 24-30 hours! ... Remember to always inspect in and around pools for dangerous spiders before your kids take a dip.

11.01.2022 Huntsman spider made an unwelcome house call this summer? These spiders might look scary but they’re generally pretty harmless and actually eat a lot of other bugs so can be worth keeping around (so long as they remain in the garden!). If you're game for 'catch and release' use an open plastic container to trap the huntsman on a flat surface. Then slide a piece of card or a few pieces of paper, or a magazine, between the flat surface and the open container trapping the spider... inside. Take the spider out into your garden and let it free! If the above isn’t an option, try Raid Earth Options Multi-Insect Killer for fast and effective control of huntsman spiders and other problem bugs.

If you come across one of these spiders in your backyard please approach with caution.

04.01.2022 If you ever find yourself lost in the bush without water... BUGS might just save your life! Mozzies: a clear sign that water is close by, as mosquitoes need water to breed. Flies: typically travel no further than 100 meters from a water source.... Ants: watch where the ants go. If the ants climb up a tree and into a hole, there may be a natural water catch right inside that tree. Use a knife or sharp rock to carve the water out of the tree. Bees: bee hives are normally close to a water source. Once you've found a hive, climb a tree or get to higher ground -- look for areas of dark green vegetation -- that may be where the bees are getting their water. BUG-STOPPING TIP: To make your home less attractive to bugs remove sources of standing water outdoors and fix any leaky taps in your kitchen or bathroom.
