19.01.2022 Welcome to the future! By 2023 you could see this aircraft responding to critical patients and providing transport to hospitals all around Australia. It can travel up to 300km/hr, operate autonomously (allowing the paramedics to focus on the patient) and will be able to reach 98% of the population - much quicker and in a safer manner than the current helicopter rescues. ... https://www.yankodesign.com//this-evtol-ambulance-designe/ #BecomeAParamedic #AustralianParamedicalCollege #APC #AirRescue #CriticalCare #EmergencyTransport #AirAmbulance

18.01.2022 Fun Fact - Medics will probably always notice how IV-friendly your veins are, even if you are not their patient. You think they're looking at you in a caring way? Well, they're probably thinking about how your veins would be great for a 14-gauge needle Our students are able to practice on our synthetic arms, which are equipped with accurate venous anatomy and flowing blood. ... This skill is learned during Clinical Workshop 2. 17.01.2022 An unknown skill of Paramedics: . Paramedics must be incredibly ingenious and resourceful medical professionals. Because of limited resources and a wide array of medical situations, sometimes what they require isn't always available. In some more extreme circumstances, they are even required to MacGyver the medical tools required to treat their patients ... 16.01.2022 Meet Sarah - Trainer and Assessor here at APC. Sarah teaches and assesses students during clinical workshops, she supports students via email and trainer calls, and she hosts a weekly live chat in our private student forum. Sarah loves it when students come together for the Clinical Workshops. She sees them feel more a part of the community and APC family, rather than individual students learning on their own at home. ... 14.01.2022 Topic of discussion: Epaulettes (or shoulder piece) Do you think the uniform symbols should be standardised across Australia? Currently, for example, an Intensive Care Paramedic in QLD will have a different epaulette to one in NSW. There's different symbols and colours to portray their ranking. ... Perhaps patients, or other emergency services (such as police), would benefit from consistency across different states? Maybe if there was nationally recognised symbols, patients would be more clear on the experience level of their treating paramedic? We would love your thoughts? Let us know below If you want to view the different uniform insignias, you can click here: http://ow.ly/qflS50Cu5sy #BecomeAParamedic #AustralianParamedicalCollege #APC #Epaulette #Uniform #UniformInsignia #ParamedicUniform

07.01.2022 Winner of this year’s 2020 James Dyson Award, Benet invented the The Blue Box, an easy-to-use, at-home, breast cancer testing device. It uses a urine sample an...d an AI algorithm to detect early signs of breast cancer. The device will retail for $60. An entire household of women can use The Blue Box at their desired frequency and convenience, Benet says. 40% of women miss their screenings leading resulting in 1 in 3 cases being detected late Benet hopes to make screening more accessible and less costly. The engineer is currently undergoing patent discussions for The Blue Box, and will spend the next few years working on the final stages of prototyping and data analytics software at the University of California Irvine, in preparation for human studies and clinical trials.
05.01.2022 This week we have some students on Clinical Placement at Schoolies on the Gold Coast. This year is much quieter due to COVID-19, so our students have been able to have some great discussions with other on-site QLD Health Staff. They've been talking about how the Paramedic's role fits in with ER Nurse/Doctors, Psychologists, Mental Health specialists and more. Every medical professional needs to learn to work as a team and understand how their actions fit into the bigger pictu...re. While our students may not be getting a large number of patients to practice on, they're still getting some incredible experience . #BecomeAParamedic #AustralianParamedicalCollege #APC #ClinicalPlacement #Schoolies #Schoolies2020 #GoldCoast #SurfersParadise #Classof2020 #QLDHealth #Placement
04.01.2022 Assessing a child is very complex, because not only are their vital signs different to adults, but psychologically they are very different too. We teach our students to use the Paediatric Assessment Triangle in the pre-hospital setting to determine how unwell a child patient is. The assessment of "appearance", "breathing" and "circulation" gives paramedics a gauge of when a child needs to be treated as an emergency or transferred to hospital. ...
