16.01.2022 It's time to celebrate. Congratulations to all members of the 2019 world Championship Australian paragliding team: Kari Ellis, Pete Slade, Gareth Carter, Felipe Resende, team Manager Dave Gibbs and team assistant Phil Mansell. They've just completeted the 10th and final task of the world championships. With Felipe Resende finished today's task in 5th place, we'll done Felipe! As we await overall results its likely to be a world championship podium finish for Kari Ellis as 3rd woman overall. That's two consecutive world championship podiums for Kari. And perhaps we'll see a top 35 overall placing for highest ranked Australian male Gareth Carter. Here's a 3D tracking replay of our Aussie's in action during the final task along with the task briefing in replay. We pick up the action 2hrs from Goal.

01.01.2022 The 16th Paragliding World Championship ended a week ago. It took me this long to recover, and write a short summary In short, it was awesome, extremely chall...enging physically and mentally. We flew 10 valid tasks in Krusevo, Macedonia. Out of 150 participants, 134 arrived with CCC wings, and only 16 of us came with a less performing END. All together combined we flew around the world 3 times. In average a task was 2.5 hours for the winner, circa 100 km. The speed was insane, normally 100 pilots arrived within the first 10 minutes. I flew my personal bests, once arriving in goal as 28th. My overall ranking was 76th after 10 tasks, 6th woman, first serial glider. I believe I pushed out the max of my Zeno, that was possible Enzo3 here I comeeeee!!!! What I learned when I really struggled: These days are the true scales of my character, days of growth. I challenged myself quite much on the 3 especially windy days, where I felt the definitive difference between my 6.9 aspect ratio glider and the 134 other 7.5 aspect ratio wings. They flew into the wind like a knife in butter, while I felt hitting an invisible wall and sinking out. I learned to push no matter what and not give up the fight. It took me longer, but I made as many km as I could. The lead gaggle was around 60-80 gliders throughout the course. On glide, it was almost tranquil, but once we hit lift, the whole bunch of colorful wings started to act like ABC pasta in a boiling soup: spin every possible direction in mayhem. I often experienced spikes of anxiety, especially when we all had to avoid an actual collision and a pilot coming down with reserve in the middle of a thermal on day 1. One thing I always realise: we fly as we feel. There were 2 tasks when i haven’t made goal: the first time no one did, the second time my mental game was completely screwed up. I could not stop thinking of an accident I just witnessed at take off where a friend of mine was carried off by an ambulance, plus work stress came in unexpectedly during the task briefing. Contemplating one’s mortality or whether to let a client go during a world championship task is not just bad for performance, but can be actually dangerous. I tried my best to switch off, but failed and eventually bombed out. Another area to improve. Why I love comp flying is because it gives me a different perspective: In my safe city life, my lifespan seems long and my biggest stress comes from logistics at my work. When I am in the sky, I always realize that all tangible goods can be replaced, all my work troubles are minuscule, but if I get hurt, no money in the world will replace a broken vertebra or the loss of my lifestyle. I realize that neither my life nor my loved ones’ are guaranteed to last forever. I am always grateful that all my current troubles are typical first world problems: chasing money, small worries, but no existential crisis or no health issues in my immediate family. My life is truly blessed. I am so grateful for all the people in my life who make it special: my family and friends with wings or without. You give it true depth and meaning. Thank you I love you all! Official results: http://pgworlds2019.mk/live/results/
