17.01.2022 Happy birthday to us! October 2020 is our 74th birthday. In October 1944 Australian police commissioners met in Adelaide and decided 'a different type of publication' was needed; 'a journal embodying articles of an instructive nature relating to phases of police activities in Australia, would be most the most advantageous vehicle for the conveyance of general and technical knowledge to the personnel of Australian Police Forces.'... In October 1946 the first issue of the Australian Police Journal was published, available at an annual subscription rate of four shillings. Seventy-four years later the APJ continues to pursue the vision of those commissioners, with a contemporary mission of assisting the community through promoting learning and the education of police. We are proudly, Australia's preeminent true crime and policing publication.

14.01.2022 The APJ’s condolences to the family of S/C Masters and the wider Queensland Police Service. His on-duty death is a tragic reminder of the sacrifice some police are called upon to make in the service of the community. Lest we forget.
13.01.2022 Our new podcast is out! Did you know Adelaide police once conducted a bayonet charge into a mob who were attacking their police station? Did you know police stations often were used as improvised mortuaries, even though this posed a serious risk to the health of the officers? One South Australian Police station was even, for a time, made from disused beer crates! Author and former senior police officer John White talks about his book ‘More than Just Bricks and Mortar’, a soc...ial history of the almost 500 police stations South Australia Police have occupied throughout their history. He and host Jason Byrnes talk about stories of courage, sacrifice, tragedy and service, in places as far afield as Maralinga, Coober Pedy, Tarcoola, Innamincka, Glenelg and Port Adelaide. The podcast is available on all major podcast host sites, or can be listened to at www.apjl.com.au #PoliceUniversity #lawenforcement #PoliceUniversity #truecrime #APJ #apjl

01.01.2022 Happy birthday to us! Subscribers can read our 75th Anniversary issue online - physical copies of the magazine will be mailed out in the very near future. The issue contains 22 fascinating stories, highlights drawn from 75 years of the APJ. This includes a timeless article printed in the very first issue of the journal (1946), describing the variety of people police meet at the front counter of a police station. It’s a story all police officers will immediately recognise, and... shows how in some ways policing hasn’t changed over the decades. Other articles in the anniversary issue include ‘Justice too Swift’, ‘How to Handle a Flasher’, ‘For the Term of his Unnatural Life’, ‘Sea Chase Pursuit and Capture of the Pong Su’, ‘Diving Fatality in a Submarine’, ‘The Port Arthur Shooting Incident’, ‘Parliamentary Riots’, ‘The Shaft’ and ‘An Enigmatic Death’. To read the Anniversary issue online, login to the site and click on the link in the issues section. If you're not a subscriber but want to read the issue online, go to www.apjl.com.au/subscribe/ Physical copies of the magazine will arrive in the letterboxes of subscribers in the near future.
