24.01.2022 2020 PRO TOUR SADDLE BRONC RIDING CHAMPION | Heath Chalmers is a first-time champ after finishing in the second and third spots in years gone by. In his second year back after an extended break, Heath is pleased with his title win and looks forward to ‘going hard again next year’. Whilst the sport of rodeo might be taking a break, not much has changed for Heath, admitting his alarm still goes off before 3am for his day to begin. I’m still up and heading to the track first-u...p, then home for a full day’s work and then maybe shoeing a few horses in my spare time, said Heath. The young family man doesn’t get much down-time, with two busy boys and a family business, Heath is always busy, but it doesn’t mean he isn’t missing the sport. I just love riding bucking horses, so I’m definitely missing that, and missing the wins and the money, he laughed. Congratulations on your Pro Tour Champion title Heath, and we look forward to seeing you compete when the sport returns. #australianprorodeoassociation Image BR Action Photography See more

23.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS | Bruce and Melba, and thank you for your dedication to the sport of professional rodeo. We're looking forward to working with you and the Taroom Rodeo Club Inc. committee in 2021! #australianprorodeoassociation

23.01.2022 THE BEST OF THE FINALS | The McPhee Rodeo Company bring some of the best bucking stock around to our National Finals Rodeo with many a champion buckle finding a home with the Company each year. And every year, alongside the Company’s most recognisable face, Garry, is his wife Anna a champion in her own right and someone who makes an often invisible, but an invaluable, contribution to our Finals event. It’s awesome to make it to The Finals, it’s good every year to be inv...olved, said Anna. Usually, Garry and Anna, will prepare and transport up to 40 rough stock athletes to Warwick but this year they too have the year off. Right now our bucking stock, including our best competitors from 2019 Cheyenne Top Girl and Cajun Lady - are enjoying getting fat, laying about and enjoying life. Most days they’ll have a bit of a run and a play with Garry when he’s out on the bike. In a normal year, these horses would be fed a premium ration of grain and supplements, grain-fed, jogged daily for fitness and competition preparation so this is a rare spell for the team. And just like many of our sport’s competitors and Association’s members, the McPhees are ready for the sport to return and start travelling rodeo-road once again. See you in Warwick in 2021 Anna, if not before! #australianprorodeoassociation McPhee Rodeo Company See more

22.01.2022 2020 PRO TOUR STEER WRESTLING CHAMPION | Lee Kimber had a good start to the season to propel him into the top spot, but he is quick to thank those around him for the part they played. Lucky to win the events Shane Kenny and I go to compete at, he never lets me down, said Lee. On a high after taking the title, Lee has embraced the break from rodeo, relishing the time he has been able to spend with his son and family. And of course, he has been keeping busy juggling the trans...port business and duties at home on the irrigation property. Lee is a cowboy at heart, admitting that despite enjoying the break, he’s ‘definitely missing bull-dogging a steer’. And right now, he’s looking forward to the sport’s return and hoping the break provides an opportunity for rodeo to welcome new competitors and committees to the sport in the future. Congratulations on your Pro Tour Champion title Lee, we hope to see you continuing to contribute to the sport of rodeo when it returns. #australinaprorodeoassociation Image BR Action Photography See more

21.01.2022 THE BEST OF THE FINALS | as we roll into the week that should be 'Finals Week', we thought we'd take a look at some of the events' greatest and most memorable moments. First up, is when Jorja Iker set a new Breakaway Roping record of 1.85 seconds at last year's Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals in Warwick, QLD. 20.01.2022 RODEO UPDATE | great to see our sport's top competitors doing their bit to keep rodeo going during these quiet times, with Tom Webster, a 2019 APRA National Finals saddle bronc ride qualifier, holding a rodeo school recently. 19.01.2022 2020 PRO TOUR TEAM ROPING HEADING CHAMPION | Shane Kenny, is a humble champ, quick to say he’s ‘lucky because the guys he ropes with do really well’ - his competition partner, Clay Bush, took out the 2020 Pro Tour Team Roping Heeling Champion title. Shane is a veteran of the Pro Tour Circuit and rodeo-road, so he’s certainly missing the people and the catch-ups, but he’s been quietly enjoying a little down-time too. Haven’t swung a rope or ridden a horse for a few months, s...o the break has been okay, said Shane. I’ve probably never had this much time off so plenty of jobs are getting done. Shane is a champion of the sport in more ways than one, with his family continuing to provide opportunities for people to maintain their skills in the sport by hosting varying events on their Emerald property during the break. Our recent roping day was probably the biggest event we’ve had, was great to host something that people were excited to get to and do something, said Shane. Congratulations on your Pro Tour Champion Title Shane and thanks for the continued contribution to the sport. #australianprorodeoassociation Image BR Action Photography See more

15.01.2022 THE BEST OF THE FINALS | Mike Kenyon, the man responsible for capturing some of our sport’s greatest moments, is another familiar face at our National Finals Rodeo event. Mike has been behind the camera for more years than he count, so there’s many a memory he can recall as ‘the best’. But in true Mike style, he did manage to come up with one! I remember the year when Brett Larkin who we used to call Rissole won the Bull Ride just ahead of the other cowboys, Mike said. They’d all been close in the standings all year, it came down to the wire and to watch the comradery between these great competitors and all the guys who travelled together was very special. Thanks Mike for the miles you’ve travelled and your love of the sport of rodeo! #australianprorodeoassociation

"And now we're also busy with two children!" Like many fellow competitors, Terry is missing the opportunity to... catch-up with friends - as well as that adrenaline rush of competition. And while he recalls the rodeos early in the season, the fun of the South Australian circuit, and the energy of the new committees who joined the APRA affiliate line-up in 2020, Terry has his eyes set on the future. "It's to break the Australian Team Roping record." To some young bucks he might be an older bloke getting in the way behind the chutes at one of the local Rodeos. 06.01.2022 2020 PRO TOUR ALL AROUND CHAMPION COWGIRL | Leslie Moore, is back in the top spot this year, with her last Pro Tour title back in 2012/2013 taking the Pro Tour Rookie and Barrel Racing Champion titles. In a stroke of luck for Leslie, the sport’s pause due to COVID-19 came at a perfect time as she was around 5 months pregnant, so she has been able to enjoy the latter stages of pregnancy and safely bring a beautiful baby boy, Chad, into the world he’s now a month old! I’m e...njoying being grounded at the moment, it’s a great chance to enjoy the newborn phase, said Leslie. We normally live very busy lives with work and rodeo, now I’m just busy with Tejay and Chad! Despite the blessings and the opportunity to be at home with family, Leslie, like most professional competitors, is missing her rodeo family and competing on her horses. With that driving her, Leslie will soon be back in the saddle, getting herself and the horses fit again, with a plan to start where she left off ‘to do the best to get the All Around and Barrel Racing titles at the APRA National Finals in 2021. 04.01.2022 2020 PRO TOUR TEAM ROPING HEELING CHAMPION | Clay Bush is taking this title for the third time. And the young cowboy says ‘it’s still a nice feeling’. Thankful for his competition partner, Shane Kenny, and the continued support from his family, Clay acknowledges it takes plenty of support from good people to be able to compete and win. Busy in his farrier business, Clay has been making the most of the sport’s break, also setting-up a family property at Yass and working with ...some young horses. I haven’t really slowed down at all I’ve been breaking in some new horses and getting plenty done that’s for sure, he said. Whilst the break is an opportunity to freshen up for Clay, he like every cowboy, is missing his rodeo family and can’t wait to catch-up with the guys. 01.01.2022 THE BEST OF THE FINALS | Leanne Kenny, a familiar face on the rodeo circuit and once a fierce competitor in her own right, this lady is the number one supporter for two of our sport's champions - husband Shane and daughter Ellysa. "Last year's National Finals were pretty special with Ellysa and Shane both getting a title," said Leanne. The Kenny family normally arrive in Warwick the week before The Finals, set-up camp and compete at Evandale the weekend prior, then relocate i...nto the Warwick Showgrounds for the four days of competition. "It's pretty busy with competing, practicing, and if the family aren't doing something with the timed event cattle, they're busy with the horses," said Leanne. Whilst Leanne may play down her contribution to the family's weekend of competition, her ability to listen, keep them calm, and most importantly feed them - as well as many other members of their rodeo family - she knows what she's doing! "We're a family of five, but sometimes I can have up to a dozen turn up for tea - I just make it work. "We bought a bigger trailer so we'd have more room, but it's still not big enough." And it's this atmosphere, and the catch-ups with the rodeo family and friends, Leanne and the family are missing most this year. "Rodeo is inclusive - we really are one big family." "There are plenty of people who don't compete but make the effort to get to The Finals, and that's pretty special." Bring on catching-up in 2021 Leanne! #australianprorodeoassociation Image Dave Ethell Photos See more
