25.01.2022 'Lilly was convinced that we shared the Earth with at least one non-human intelligence and possibly many more....It wasn’t long before Lilly’s interest in the consciousness-altering effects of LSD began to bleed into his research on interspecies communication. As early as 1964, Lilly began injecting the dolphins he was studying with LSD to see how it would affect their communication'

25.01.2022 Some psychedelic charities refuse to discuss decriminalisation of psychedelics. We, on the other hand, actively advocate for it. Why? Because this law reform reduces harms to communities & individuals while enhancing freedom & autonomy. If you’re interested in real change please like/follow us, share this post with your friends, & subscribe to our newsletter.

24.01.2022 ‘One basic implication of this study is that this link between perceived oneness and life satisfaction occurs independent of your religious affiliation’

22.01.2022 ‘Measuring and increasing post-traumatic growth may lead to more rewarding interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, and a more optimistic outlook on life.’

Enjoy!

22.01.2022 The study of psychedelic history can be as rich and mind-expanding as the substances themselves - full of odd moments and ironies that challenge our current paradigms around the entheogenic experience. In this article, Tom Hatsis & Eden Woodruff hope to demonstrate that psychedelic history, and its relevant characters, is highly complex with 7 overlooked facts that enrich our understanding of psychedelic history. https://psanctum.org//7-mind-expanding-facts-about-psyche/

22.01.2022 'Throughout our history, human beings have explored these visionary experiences and the links between them through artistic, spiritual, and religious expressions, but modernity has ushered in new opportunities to look at the vast range of works and reacquaint ourselves with their forms, perhaps even allowing us to uncover new aspects and interpretations of them.'

21.01.2022 Accurate representation of what this change actually means is essential if people are to make informed decisions on whether they support it or not. This guideline, while intended for journalists, has relevant details for people interested in the proposed rescheduling of psilocybin and MDMA.

21.01.2022 From 2018, but still worth a listen, the ABC’s Lynne Malcolm talks to David Nickles, Ben Sessa, Rick Doblin and a mystery ‘psychedelic symposium attendee’:

20.01.2022 "In cannabis, we’ve seen an unhealthy relationship with profit and investment that has created consolidation of the market, perverse incentives, and is slowly driving the lovers and believers out of the game only to be replaced by traditional business fundamentals of scale, ROI, and exit strategies. Legacy operators are increasingly replaced with multistate operators, traditional venture capitalists, and Canadian public company management or ownership. For psychedelics, we have a chance to do this better."

16.01.2022 "It seems every day there’s another news story about researchers being given permission to investigate the therapeutic potential of psychedelics. Venture capitalists and investors are increasingly aware of the financial potential too as they seek to maximise returns through first mover advantage. Awesome! We’ll have legalised or at least decriminalised psychedelics in no time, right? Sorry to burst your bubble, but, no. The medical-psychedelic movement, or I should say, the medical-psychedelic-business movement in Australia may not deliver non-medical legalisation or even decriminalisation."

15.01.2022 While the Psilocybe subaeruginosa season in Australia is more or less over, mushroom season in the northern hemisphere is just kicking off. In line with this, one of the worlds most recent psychedelic celebratory days, 920 seeks to encourage education and activism around psilocybin and it’s natural sources.

15.01.2022 Do you know your rights when it comes to psychedelic medicine? And have you sent your response with the Therapeutic Goods Administration regarding the rescheduling of Psilocybin and MDMA yet? If not, take a read of our new post over on the APS website. Leave us your thoughts on the rescheduling below!

15.01.2022 Psychedelic pharmaceuticals are the new stocks to salivate over. But, asks NEO.LIFE, are there more complicated moral issues to grapple with along the way? But this phenomenal growth hasn’t come without its growing pains. A rising movement within the psychedelic community is voicing concern that the emerging industry is poised to repeat colonial patterns that have appropriated Indigenous knowledge and led to the destruction of the habitats and communities from which these sacred plant medicines originatewhile also making these new treatments inaccessible to many of the underserved populations who need them most.

13.01.2022 While 'Set and setting' respectively refer to the internal and external factors that influence your psychedelic experience, more thought has been put into the concept by researchers like Dr. Ido Hartoghsonhas as to how broader social systems are reflected and expressed in the psychedelic experience. Set and setting are also socially constructed, with this 'collective set and setting', "composed by the society’s character, its knowledge and attitude towards the psychedelic experience, as well as by the physical and social settings provided in that society.

13.01.2022 Bad Trips are troubling and complex phenomena. This talk provides a conceptual framework for understanding bad trips: where they come from, what it means/takes to rehabilitate, and what the culture gets wrong about them from Jesso's unique blend of spirituality, trauma-informed psychotherapy, and interpersonal neurobiology. The lecture offers some context for Bad Trips that enables a healthy and helpful approach to the wounding and challenges that come with them. Thanks again Adventures Through The Mind / James W. Jesso

12.01.2022 Dr Manoj Doss says 'studies of the brain's activity under psychedelics are complex and often badly designed. Dr. Sansom also points out that many factors influence the way your brain and body react to a trip, including your underlying health and mood, personality traits, and your physical surroundings.'

11.01.2022 Nicolas Langlitz, associate professor of Anthropology at the New School for Social Research, joined Mateo Sánchez for a discussion on the liberal or/and progressive ideas inherent to psychedelic use? How does psychedelic mainstreaming play out in societies characterized by individualism and identity politics? 10.01.2022 '...these experiences often evoke a transformation in the painful image of the loved one that patients had internalised after the death fostering a sustained alliance with them. These experiences have a profound therapeutic impact regardless of whether the patients think these visions are real or imaginary. It is difficult to compare to those experiences suggested by an external therapist in Western therapeutic settings'

08.01.2022 While decriminalisation at this level is only a start, it's an important step and we hope that Vancouver goes through with it. We look forward to seeing further details on this, and continue to advocate for reforms closer to home.

08.01.2022 Like it or not (and whether you believe any of them or not) the world of psychedelics is intimately connected to the belief and spread of conspiracy theories. This article from Psymposia raises more questions than it answers: Does David Icke really believe in shape-shifting reptilians? What is Brian Rose actually doing with all that money? Regardless of where you stand in your politics or beliefs about the shape of reality (including COVID), the call for critical thinking within our own psychedelic communities should be something we can all get behind.

08.01.2022 Psychedelic science is moving at a pace not seen since the time before Nixon's 'War on Drugs', and as corporate (and eventually, government) money flows into research, this pace is likely to quicken. But, writes George Fejer, there are scientific challenges to deal with along the way.

06.01.2022 Another awesome Garden States Microdose from Entheogenesis Australis - EGA - Planting Psychedelic Seeds: Melissa Warner explores the complementary nature of psychedelics and meditation as a shared path to enhance personal agency and psychological well-being. This video explores history, neuroscience research, psychological theories, and biotech futures of these modalities, but also includes guidance through a reflection on moving through uncertain times and in creating a vision for our future selves.

03.01.2022 ‘In 1993, a team of researchers including Charles Grob and Dennis McKenna carried out pioneering research into the long-term effects of ayahuasca on users’ physical and psychological health. This was the first study that systematically studied the effects of ayahuasca in humans. Dr. Jordi Riba and associates added to this scientific inquiry into ayahuasca by performing a clinical trial in which they measured the psychological and physiological effects of ingesting ayahuasca.’

03.01.2022 "...because of a shaman’s perceived expertise, a participant often places a great deal of trust in them to hold a safe space. A shaman’s responsibility is to maintain professional boundaries and understand the sensitivities that come alongside participants’ experiences in ceremony space, and this safekeeping can be violated if the healer-participant power dynamic is exploited"

03.01.2022 'Scientists in Finland are taking a closer look the relationship between psychedelic substances and mystical experiences. In new research published in Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, researchers show that a Finnish version of a common assessment of subjective psychedelic effects can accurately capture individuals’ experiences.'

02.01.2022 Sydney-APS Book Club is back ...this time we gather to discuss the contentious figure Timothy Leary and his seminal book; 'The Politics of Ecstasy'. Don't miss this limited capacity event and the fascinating conversation that will ensue :)

02.01.2022 Myths regarding orange juice and psychedelic abound, but are any of them even halfway true?

01.01.2022 'And yet, these entities weren’t just his friends; they were distinctly different. Their faces were jumbled, abstracted, and leaking colored light. Ali had the uncanny sense that these beings were of their own world entirely. Ali had journeyed into the spirit world.' DoubleBlind on DMT, the 'Machine Elves' associated with it, and the possible nature of hallucinations it causes:
