22.01.2022 Happy birthday Trauma Teddy. 30 years old today! Would you believe it - since 1990 you’ve given kindness and cuddles to more than 1 million children. Find out more about the value a teddy brings here: https://fal.cn/3bLIL Over 30 years, volunteer knitters have spent a mind-blowing 7.5 million hours hours knitting Trauma Teddies. Today there are more than 600 volunteer knitters in 75 groups knitting around 50,000 Teddies a year.... A huge thank you to all our volunteers who knit kindness all around Australia. Over the years Teddies have comforted countless children in hospitals and ambulances fleeing bushfires, floods or cyclones arriving as refugees And travelled overseas after the New York September 2001 attacks to children in the Philippines, Syria, Bali and Bosnia and toured the 2012 London Olympics See more
20.01.2022 ABC TV’s Big Weather episode this week showed just how underprepared many people are for disasters. Getting prepared can be as simple as knowing your neighbours. Read how Dan really was his neighbours’ best friend when their street was submerged by flood waters. #GetPrepared bit.ly/34RjcY4
20.01.2022 Each week, we’re sharing #StoriesofHope from 2020. Today, Marilyn and her family talk about how the kindness of strangers changed everything after she lost her home in the bushfires. Get more stories at bit.ly/Stories-of-Hope-and-Kindness
19.01.2022 Surprising acts of kindness made this year endurable. Here’s one from a workplace that packed food hampers to support families who had lost their incomes. Check out other #StoriesOfHope at https://fal.cn/3bcws
19.01.2022 Seven out of ten cardiac arrests happen in front of bystanders, yet fewer than one in five of the people close by end up providing first aid. Would you know how to re-start a heart? On World Re-start a Heart Day test your heart knowledge, then find out how you could learn CPR bit.ly/2H7akp9
19.01.2022 Volunteers from @redcross.org.vn are packing relief items that will be distributed to people who have been affected by the devastating floods and Typhoon Molave. Many have been cut off by flood waters, are without electricity and clean water and are relying on these relief packages to survive. Red Cross response teams have been on the ground since the beginning, and will continue to be there for as long as is needed.
17.01.2022 #BigWeather continues on ABC TV + iview tonight at 8.30pm.
14.01.2022 Meet Elie, this week’s #StoriesOfHope hero. In two years, everything changed for him including his dreams. More stories at https://fal.cn/3b3eh
12.01.2022 Big Weather (and how to survive it) on ABC TV + iview is an important call to action. And one of the simplest, but most effective, actions you can take is to get connected. That can be as simple as introducing yourself over the fence or as grand as a street barbeque. It’s up to you! To bring plans alive, grab a Ready Together Toolkit https://fal.cn/3bchA
12.01.2022 Those bushfire scenes on ABC’s Big Weather last night were a scary reminder of how intense things can get. Kate has simple - but supremely sage - steps for staying safe in such an emergency. She knows a thing or two about bushfires. She went through them on the beach, under ember attack with fire all around. Fire phone tree to let your neighbours know where you’ll be so you can look out for, warn and help each other. Run away boxes - packed with emergency supplies. Kep...t in the garage. Checked and updated each November. Let loved ones know a ‘spokesperson’ to communicate with all your loved ones during an emergency. #BigWeather See how Kate and her neighbours made it through.https://fal.cn/3b36Y See more
11.01.2022 We can’t do without people like Ella, especially this year. An engineer in her day job, she also volunteers with us to call people who are isolated and check on their wellbeing. Check out more #StoriesofHope at www.redcross.org.au/hope.
09.01.2022 Share in the celebrations as Garnet turns a corner through a program to get a drivers licence. It’s this week’s #StoriesofHope. Find more hope and stories at https://fal.cn/3bnbZ
09.01.2022 As the weather heats up, remember COVID will make cooling off more complicated this summer. During heatwaves we recommend avoiding crowded air-conditioned shopping malls and other public indoor spaces. If you really need to cool off in the air-conditioning, wear a mask, maintain physical distancing and wash your hands regularly. For more simple steps when the mercury rises: https://fal.cn/3bPk9
08.01.2022 We welcome the 50th ratification of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons which marks the beginning of the end of nuclear weapons. In a year of so much turmoil and hardship this is a moment of hope and celebration for all humankind. https://fal.cn/3b9LP
04.01.2022 Join us at 12pm for a Q&A with Craig where he chats through his experience recording the Big Weather series.
03.01.2022 We can’t offer you a discount this Friday but if you want to score a GENUINE bargain, check out our online store https://shop.redcross.org.au for virtual presents and one-of-a-kind finds. Why’s it a bargain, you ask? Because every purchase helps our work with people going through tough times so each gift gives twice. Can’t ask for more than that
03.01.2022 Connecting with his new home. On his first bushwalk ever, Adil's won over. We love this idea. Hiking to help migrants and refugees find their feet by getting out into the Australian bush. Thanks to our volunteers and First Hike Project for arranging the bushwalk for 18 newly-arrived Australians. The 10 km hike through the West Australian bush was our first. Hoping for many more to come.
02.01.2022 This is one of our brightest #StoriesofHope. The kindness that Jan showed Laurine has made the town of Harvey a happier place for them both. Your kindness today can also be someone’s hope for tomorrow. Make a donation at https://fal.cn/3bWTY
02.01.2022 It’s the day the Teddy Bears had their picnic. To mark 30 years of hugs, our ambassador Kate Richie hosted a Teddy Bear Picnic for Trauma Teddy’s birthday. Young families and long-time knitters joined Kate and the knitted guests of honour in the park. There were cakes, and stories, and a book reading from Kate’s 'I just couldn't wait to meet you' children’s book. A huge bear hug thanks to Kate for a lovely party.
01.01.2022 We know that young people are amazing. We also know Gen Z and iGen are going to face more extreme weather events than any before them. To help teens and tweens prepare, our emergency team has developed Danger Days. The fast-paced app challenges users to navigate difficult and dangerous situations, overcome odds, help friends and stay safe. This is one game teens and tweens should play! Try it for free.... https://fal.cn/3bLQJ
