24.01.2022 April’s update! This turtle sure has a lot of love surrounding her Whatever it takes, we will never give up

21.01.2022 Today we wanted to give you an update on Stan our hawksbill turtle who is in the pre-release tank... But it turns out April the green sea turtle stole the show and wanted to be the centre of attention. Our pre-release tank holds our sea turtles that are at the end of their rehabilitation process but need a bit more further strength and conditioning. In this tank we currently have April and Unicorn who are green sea turtles and Stan the hawksbill. Stan has been in care with ...us for some time now as his recovery process has been up and down. We are still wanting him to gain more weight and strength. So we are currently keeping a close eye on what he is eating and monitoring his weight each week. Stay tuned for better photos of Stan this week . . . . . . #australianseabirdrescue #ballinabyronseaturtlehospital #greenseaturtle #hawksbillturtle #seaturtles

18.01.2022 Woo! We love release days! Today is was April’s turn to return to the big ol blue. You might remember April, she came in with rope down her throat. From there, she had surgery with @drbreetalbot at @byronbaywildlife She continued her rehab journey with ASR and we are so proud of our vollies for dedicating their time to help our animals everyday. ... Today @drbreetalbot and vet nurse, @hayley_wildlifenurse released April and we are so happy we can all work together to conserve our wildlife. We still have another 19 sea turtles in care and need your help! Please donate via our website to help out our food bills of $2000+ per month . . . . . #australia #australianseabirdrescue #byronbay #turtlerelease #greenseaturtle #conservation #marinereptile #marineconservation #ballina #lennoxhead See more

This little guy has lesions all over his skin, we don’t know what has caused them, but he will be off to byronbaywildlife this m...orning for a treatment plan. 06.01.2022 Turtle Thursday! How cute are Jingle and Reef enjoying some vitamin D Did you know that most of the green sea turtles that come into our care are only juveniles? The turtles that we often have in care are usually between 1-20 years of age! A turtles age can be estimated by its size with a measurement called CCL (curved carapace length). Green sea turtles don’t reach sexual maturity until the age of around 25-30 years old. This is why it is so important that we get these t...urtles healthy and back out into the wild population. . . . . . . #australianseabirdrescue #ballinabyronseaturtlehospital #cheloniamydas #greenseaturtle #ocean #oceanconservation See more

03.01.2022 Here at ASR we love educating, but we also love learning new things! As we get more and more animals in care we sometimes come across species we have never had before and we then adapt and learn. We typically only get two species of sea snakes in our care, the yellow-bellied sea snake and elegant sea snake. So when we get a different species come in, out comes the identification book. We have also asked around and we think this species is a horned sea snake (Hydrophis peronii...). We are open for suggestions if you think otherwise. This poor snake was found stranded on South Kingscliff beach. Sea snakes that are sick or injured will often wash ashore after big seas or storm events. Please never touch or pick up sea snakes. They are highly venomous and can bite. If you do come across one please call us on 0428 862 852 or your local wildlife rescue group. Thank you Nicola for helping us id this beauty @snakereptilecatchinggosford . . . . . . #australianseabirdrescue #ballinabyronseaturtlehospital #seasnake #hydrophisperonii

03.01.2022 Today we had the pleasure of meeting the crew from Commonwealth Bank Ballina. They were genuinely interested in what we do and thanked us for our services and graciously donated much needed funds to our Centre.
