24.01.2022 This wildlife rescuer has exposed evidence of koalas in the middle of a logging operation and he caught it on video.

23.01.2022 A heartfelt article..

22.01.2022 Queensland government- koala killers

22.01.2022 Such precious creatures

22.01.2022 LIES AND MORE LIES FROM NSW GOVERNMENT

21.01.2022 Our wildlife is crying out for protection...the planet is in deep trouble.

21.01.2022 BOILING WITH RAGE OVER BARILARO AND HIS KOALA KILLING AGENDA. Today’s Sydney Morning Herald contains an article which should make every voter in NSW ready to... turf out this rotten, corrupt government. According to documents from the Environment Protection Authority, (EPA), the Authority tried to stop logging in Lower Bucca and other state forests on the mid and far north coast of NSW. Forests which are the remaining primary habitat for koalas. Three quarters of key koala habitat in northern NSW have been burned. According to the EPA documents, Lower Bucca has a high proportion of high value koala habitat; it contains a koala hub and is an important koala refugia in bushfire recovery. Deputy Premier and state government’s primary koala killer, John Barilaro rejected the request by the EPA insisting logging proceed, demanding the Forestry Corporation fulfil its contract. Koala Crisis can’t provide the photographs in the SMH, but it’s shocking to see a huge swathe of the Lower Bucca forest completely wiped out. All that’s left are huge bundles of logs, koala feed trees. Koala Crisis has told readers that ecologist Mark Graham with Bellingen Nature Tours has advised KC that Forestry Corporation is targeting and systematically logging every identified koala hot spot. This is outrageous. Barilaro is the same minister who has created chaos over the new State Environment Planning Policy for koalas, threatening to quit the NSW Coalition government. Now he’s on mental health leave. In the same SMH paper, a report indicates that the Premier signed off on allowing more than $100 million to flow to councils in Liberal seats in the lead up to the state’s election. According to Greens MLC David Shoebridge who is chairing an inquiry into the grants , there has been a desperate effort by the government to hide the Premier’s involvement and there is little wonder because this is the largest pork barrel scheme in the country, more than double the scale of the federal sports rorts. Meantime, the Brandy Hill quarry extension is on the line. Federal Minister for Environment, Sussan Ley will, according to sources, make her decision whether to approve or reject the extension on October 13. Koala Crisis is not betting on any rejection. 52 hectares of important koala habitat in Port Stephens will be destroyed if approval is given. Port Stephens koalas have suffered terrible losses from bushfires and over-development. The Threatened Species Scientific Committee appointed under the Threatened Species Act recommended the Port Stephens population be upgraded to endangered. When Berejiklian eradicated the Threatened Species Act, replacing it with the useless Biodiversity Conservation Act, together with a new Scientific Committee, the previous recommendation to upgrade Port Stephens koalas was rejected. There were no grounds for the rejection. In fact, Port Stephens koalas were even more at risk under the new Act. More bushfires and development have created major losses. Yet viewers on ABC TV last week were shown NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean opening the new Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary mouthing his concern over the fast track approval given by HIS OWN GOVERNMENT to the quarry extension. The NSW government along with the Queensland government are leading the effort to drive koalas to extinction. There can be no possible excuse or reason why the mid north coast and far north coast forests, the remaining habitats of surviving koalas are being logged. Compensation could be paid to contractors, a moratorium should have been imposed months ago to allow forests to recover giving forest wildlife a chance to survive. The NSW government is immoral, incompetent and environmentally criminal in its ongoing destruction of coastal forests and important koala habitat. Don’t believe a word any NSW ministers say. Don’t believe the Premier who claims to love koalas. These politicians should be consigned to history before every wild koala is wiped out. Koala Crisis will keep you all updated. We are deeply involved in putting together a potential lawsuit, one that has taken months of research but we’re almost at step 1. Australians are facing the politically driven eradication of our unique wildlife. The Morrison government’s next effort to weaken the Environment Protection & Biodiversity Conservation Act will be brought before the Senate in early October. One moment of good news ! Last year, our mother group Australians for Animals Inc. was granted approval to hold a stall for koalas at the prestigious Wildlife Conservation Network’s convention in San Francisco. It was a huge opportunity as the Network attracts global coverage. This Fall’s convention will be electronic because of the pandemic. Once again, Australians for Animals Inc was invited to contribute a presentation. We’re thrilled to find out that the koala has one of four primary advertising spots for all WCN’s publicity ! Hopefully, our presentation will show Americans what this country’s dreadful right wing politicians and governments are doing to our environment and our precious wildlife.

21.01.2022 KOALA CAMPAIGN... WE MUST ACT NOW.

21.01.2022 A 71% DECLINE IN NSW KOALAS AS A RESULT OF THE CATASTROPHIC BUSHFIRES. In today’s media there’s a report on a recent WWF study which concludes that the fires ki...lled two in three koalas on the north coast resulting in a 71% decline in the state’s population. It’s hard to believe that the Berejiklian government was not aware of this fact given the dollars available and the damning, irrefutable evidence which was readily available from drones, aeroplanes, communities, NGOs, wildlife carers and scientists. Yet this criminal government approved a continuation of logging in the remaining north coast forests. It’s also important in this world of confusion and lies coming from politicians and governments that caring concerned people know and understand what the governments could do and haven’t done. It’s also critical to understand that at the same time as the WWF report has revealed such a shocking loss, the Morrison government rammed through legislation in the Parliament which effectively will, if approved in the Senate, give state governments the rights of approval of major projects. In 2015, Greg Hunt was Minister for the Environment. He brought in a Memorandum of Understanding which is known as the Common Assessment Method (CAM) allowing for one only national listing of species. Which means NO regional protection of koalas or any other wildlife. Only state governments can upgrade or downgrade wildlife species. Although there’s a process available for public submissions to list species under the Federal Environment Protection & Conservation Act, it’s an almost impossible task with endless delays and reliant entirely on the Minister for Environment’s decision. But state governments can make their own submissions. The NSW and Queensland governments know that koala populations in their states are barely clinging to life. The most urgent need for any hope of koalas surviving is for these state governments to urgently make a submission to the Federal government under the CAM to upgrade koalas to CRITICALLY ENDANGERED STATUS. Instead, conservation groups have been calling on governments to upgrade koalas under state legislation. This won’t happen. Australians for Animals Inc. already tried to stop the Federal government blocking any upgrade of Port Stephens koalas to endangered, using the CAM. We commissioned the Environmental Defenders Office lawyers who concluded the charity could not win a lawsuit. This is why Brandy Hill Quarry koalas are in the firing line. It’s why the poor koalas struggling to survive in remaining north coast forests are not being protected. The same reason why Queensland koalas are not being properly protected. Koala Crisis has gone through some of the latest Queensland SEQ Koala Strategy. It’s just another propaganda effort, full of elaborate promises ( identical to all previous strategies) with no effort by the government to upgrade koalas under CAM. An example of the garbage being promoted by the Queensland government : We have established a $1.96 million partnership with the Queensland Trust for Nature for habitat restoration, which will be further supported by the Queensland Government’s Land Restoration Fund. This amount of money wouldn’t buy any useful amount of habitat. It’s a joke. Under the heading What we Heard .. the Strategy has managed to ignore every single relevant critical comment made at various round table meetings of NGOs, wildlife carers and scientists. There’s even a section which claims the koala or Borobi in the Gold Coast traditional language was the mascot for the Gold Coast C/W Games with not a word about how all the Borobi mascots, trinkets, Borobi stuff was all made in China. KC’s dearest friend, indigenous Chair of the Bundjalung Elders Council describes the koala as our kin, our family. He says the destruction of koalas is killing the soul of our country. Australians are being drowned in legal complexities which are creating a nightmare situation. With Morrison/Ley’s latest effort the Streamlining Environmental Approvals Bill, if it gets through the Senate, it’s anyone’s guess how ANY species will ever be protected by law. One thing KC can guarantee, these wicked politicians and governments will take every step possible to ensure there is no legal protection for any of Australia’s unique and iconic species. Get angry. Time is really running out for koalas. This nightmare for koalas and our wildlife has to be stopped. Little wonder Australians no longer trust governments. If you support a major conservation group, ASK them why they're not lobbying state governments to make submission under the CAM to upgrade koalas to critically endangered. Under the most prestigious international conservation organisation, IUCN, the koalas' plight fulfils every single criteria for listing as critically endangered.

15.01.2022 SAVE MT GILEAD KOALAS A CRITICAL CAMPAIGN. The news of tree clearing at Mt Gilead is driving many to despair. With good reason. According to the Sydney Mor...ning Herald, the NSW government announced it was spending $400 million over the next three years to repair National parks and upgrade facilities. The rehabilitation will help to deal with the damage by the catastrophic bushfires. But there’s a far more urgent crisis. The ongoing extinction of koalas. It’s happening all over the state as project after project is approved. A major campaign to get the Great Koala National Park approved continues to go nowhere. Why ? Because this government is hell bent on wiping out the koalas. Koalas stand in the way of development and the long term plan to citify the east coast so that Australia can welcome a population of over 50 million. Matt Kean is busy trying to create a profile as a strong environmental minister but he continues to ignore the koala. Yes, he makes motherhood statements at Port Stephens and Campbelltown and without any protection of these koalas, its just propoganda. There are steps we can take. Every major conservation group which has overseas offices around the world need to set up campaigns to save koalas. Koala Crisis knows from our experience in the US where our mother group, Australians for Animals Inc. has exhibited a major wildlife conventions, that most Americans and Europeans believe Australia has an impeccable environmental record. In fact, this belief is almost set in concrete and people who visited our stalls had a great deal of trouble believing that the koala was in real danger of extinction. Once again, KC suggests making contact with WWF, IFAW, Greenpeace and the Jane Goodall Institute to request that these organisations mount massive, urgent campaigns to save our koalas. It is now also important to deluge LendLease with protest emails. The ABC has carried some significant articles indicating that investors are selling shares in disgust over Mt Gilead, that LendLease may lose its corporate reputation as being environmentally responsible. ( how did that happen?) This is an excerpt from a letter from the LL General manager, External Affairs, Corporate Communications. It’s our belief that Campbelltown’s Koala population is priceless and we take our responsibility for providing positive outcomes for them seriously. Yeah ? Was that a herd of pigs flying by ? Time that LL walked its talk. The most important act that all of us can do is to drown LL with protest emails and to also to keep drowning the relevant government Ministers. Kean and Stokes are the ministers responsible. [email protected] [email protected] Here are the relevant LendLease emails: [email protected] [email protected] If the big conservation groups can be persuaded to organise INTERNATIONAL campaigns directed at the Morrison and Berejiklian governments it will help. More to come !

Both governments recently approved the destruction of koala habitat in NSW.... The NSW Government is fast tracking the destruction of koala habitat. This is happening in places like Appin, Wilton, Port Stephens and other locations around NSW. The petition calls for koala habitat to be urgently protected and calls on Walker Corporation, Lendlease, Hanson Australia, NSW Forestry Corporation, Country Garden and other developers to safeguard koala habitat. Following the devastation of the Black Summer bushfires, the situation for our koalas has never been more dire. Every koala and every koala tree needs to be protected. 04.01.2022 NSW GOVERNMENT EFFORT TO PROTECT SOUTHWEST SYDNEY KOALAS. LOW SCORE BY KOALA CRISIS. Koala Crisis has become a little cynical about any koala announcements b...y Berejeklian and her government's ministers. So it was with jaded eyes KC read the reports on Environment Minister Matt Kean and Planning Minister Rob Stokes effort to persuade koala conservation focused organisations that the intention to declare a Koala Reserve or a Koala National Park ( Ministers giving different descriptions) in southwest Sydney would save koalas in that area for future generations. As no map is currently available, and the population is expected to grow to 1.5 million in southwest Sydney by 2056, it’s hard to see how koalas or any wildlife can survive such a population explosion. It’s also worthwhile remembering that there may be a plan to plant l00,000 trees for koalas but it takes at least 7 years before a seedling grows sufficiently to provide food and shelter. It appears that the desperately needed corridors have not been established, considered or made a priority. We will have to see what transpires. The most serious threat to future survival of koalas in NSW is the logging of primary koala habitat in mid and far north coast forests with trees being bulldozed literally every day. It’s an absolute catastrophe and one that the government continues to ignore in spite of massive protests and community outrage. Matt Kean as Minister for Environment is silent when it comes to the forest destruction. Rob Stokes continues his efforts to fast track developments without proper environmental scrutiny. At the Federal level, Morrison and Ley are pushing, shoving the latest one stop shop approvals through the Parliament. The legislation, known as the Streamlining Environment Approvals Bill, will give state governments the authority to approve major developments. Instead of waiting for the Final Report by the Independent Review of the EPBC Act by Prof. Graeme Samuels, the government is determined to force the legislation into law. Imagine. The Berejiklian government with 100% right of approval over developments. It’s an horrific picture only made worse by imagining a similar situation with Palaszczuk, Andrews, Marshall, Gutwein, McGowan governments. Australians are living in a time warp. We are governed by politicians who completely disregard the appalling legacy of devastation left by six months of fires and the preceding drought. And the growing impacts of climate change. The NSW Bushfire report was released last week. Although the focus is on the failure of government management of the fires, with not much information on wildlife, the following statement has pretty serious implications. NSW Bushfire Report noted: The 2019-20 bush fire season was extreme, and extremely unusual. It showed us bush fires through forested regions on a scale that we have not seen in Australia in recorded history, and fire behaviour that took even experienced firefighters by surprise. The total tally of fire- generated thunderstorms in south-eastern Australia since the early 1980s increased from 60 at the end of 2018-19 to almost 90 at the end of the 2019-20 bush fire season an increase of almost 50% in one bush fire season. NPWS say fire affected the habitat of 293 threatened animals. It’s pretty obvious that Kean and Stokes are reacting to the recommendations of the NSW Upper House Inquiry and growing public outcry. But in KC’s view, unless there is a moratorium on logging and ALL developments in known koala habitat whilst a proper population estimate is undertaken across the state, all efforts by the Berejiklian government to claim they’re saving koalas are just plain old propaganda.

03.01.2022 3 BILLION ANIMALS DIED IN THE CATASTROPHIC BUSHFIRES.. GOVERNMENTS ‘ FAILED RESPONSE. This post is nothing but sobering news. Ten scientists from a number of... well-respected universities were commissioned by WWF to investigate the loss of animals to the dreadful 2019-2020 bushfires. The report is horrific. Almost three times more deaths than the earlier estimate of 1 billion animals. The new report estimates 143 million mammals, 2.46 billion reptiles, l80 million birds and 51 million frogs. The latest report, overseen by Professor Chris Dickman who first revealed a figure of 1 billion animals earlier this year is only an interim report. The earlier report focused only on NSW and Victoria. From the WWF press release: When you think about nearly three billion native animals being in the path of the fires it is absolutely huge, it’s a difficult number to comprehend, said Professor Dickman. While the scientists cannot say how many animals died, Professor Dickman said the prospects for animals which escaped the flames were probably not that great because of a lack of food and shelter or being forced into habitat already occupied. Professor Dickman said the research shows people that mega fires are changing the environment and depleting native biodiversity and change is necessary. How quickly can we decarbonise? How quickly can we stop our manic land clearing? We land clear at a rate that’s one of the highest in the world, Professor Dickman said. It is, as WWF says, one of the worst wildlife disasters in modern history. It is vitally important that environmental legislation is strengthened A message which is not being heard by the Federal or state governments. There has never been more compelling evidence of the callous dis-regard, the brutal lack of compassion and responsibility to current and future generations of human and non human life than the non-reactions by these governments. Meantime.. the kangaroo killing industry continues its dreadful murder. Wombats are dying dreadful painful deaths because of mange caused by stress and loss of habitat. Every single species is suffering. These are the governments the Australian public voted for. NATIONAL PARTY IN NSW ON THE VERGE OF STRIPPING NSW ENVIRONMENT MINISTER’S POWERS. An urgent message from the Nature Conservation Council (NCC) last night alerted Koala Crisis to dreadful news. It's also the focus of an editorial in the Sydney Morning Herald. The National party is moving to take control of environmental policy in NSW by stripping the Environment Minister’s power to block laws that harm nature. According to NCC , national party agriculture minister Adam Marshall is pressuring Berejiklian to change laws that protect wildlife so the Environment Minister no longer has a say. NCC says that the changes are already on the Cabinet’s agenda and could be voted on any day. Nationals think they own nature and should be allowed to do whatever they want. We don’t have to go far to look at their record. Melinda Pavey is the worst Minister for Water the state has ever experienced. The deputy premier John Barilaro is the enemy of nature, how this man ever rose to the position he holds in Parliament is an indication of how low morality sits on the political agenda. If this change goes ahead, the impacts will be disastrous and irreversible. The nationals have ensured deforestation rates have gone through the roof. Destruction of our native forests by logging has intensified at a time when surviving wildlife desperately need shelter and food. The nationals refused to place a moratorium on logging so forests could recover. This is a party that can only be compared with the Brazilian nightmare President who allowed the burning of the Amazon wiping out virtually all environmental legislation. Please contact your local MP, no matter what party. If this nightmare goes ahead, NSW will be a graveyard for our wildlife. KOALA POPULATION ESTIMATE ACCORDING TO NSW MINISTER FOR ENVIRONMENT.. In case anyone thinks that Matt Kean, Minister for Environment is the new champion for koalas, this is an email received this week from one of his key advisors. This was his response to Australians for Animals Inc. (AFA) requesting the most current population estimate of koala numbers in NSW. In terms of the koala population more generally, it is estimated that 3,000 6,000 koalas were killed due to the bushfires. The estimated population in NSW is 26,000 30,000. However, there are differing estimates with some organisations suggesting much higher or lower figures of both mortality and the overall population. Our officials and scientists continue to work on improving the estimate through a range of methods, including mapping, site surveys and drone technology. This is absolute nonsense. The last population estimate of 36,000 came from the deeply flawed independent report on the decline of koalas in NSW by the Chief Scientist in 2016. In spite of requests by AFA, neither the government nor the Chief Scientist could provide a shred of evidence as to where the 36,000 were located. In December, 2019 the Federal Minister for the Environment announced that at least 8,000 koalas had died in the bushfires on the mid north coast. Mapping won't provide numbers. Site surveys ? Where ? No response. Drones ? Drones can survey areas but drones have not been deployed over the known koala habitats throughout the state. Requests, demands by AFA to the government to undertake an urgent population count after bushfires were finally put out months later were met with a robust refusal. No population estimates would be undertaken as the government considered them too unreliable. So Minister Kean’s advisor has no problem in making a guestimate which has no basis in fact. The last estimate was done in 2007 with scientists estimating between 1-10,000. Since that time there’s been a steady decline in almost every key population save for Port Macquarie, Campbelltown/ southwest Sydney koalas, and some north coast populations surviving in the soon to be logged remaining unburned forests. The estimate of how many koalas died in the fires is in total conflict with the WWF interim report detailing 3 billion animals were incinerated. Australia’s wildlife, our precious, unique, iconic animals are dying out. They’re being killed off by these dreadful governments. Morrison is dedicated to cutting green tape and doing away with the totally inadequate environmental legislation that remains. The Berejiklian government continues to log unburned forests; the massive urbanisation projects continue to put remaining habitats at risk; a huge quarry at Port Stephens in core koala habitat has been approved.. there's not one shred of evidence of conceern. In Queensland, the situation is dire. KC apologises for the lack of coverage on Queensland but there's only so many hours in a day and too much happening. The National party should be de-registered. Or charged with Crimes against Nature. There’s only so much Koala Crisis can do. We are passing on every shred of information which is not being reported in the Murdoch dominated mainstream media. The Sydney Morning Herald and Age are now owned by 9 Entertainment. Many regional newspapers have been closed down. It’s up to you as individuals to identify your member of Parliament, call, email, protest to him/her over the political murder of our precious wildlife. Tell him/her that they shall be named and shamed if they do nothing to stop the slaughter. Don’t weep. Act. Share. Get on the phone. Send emails. Wildlife depend on you, they have no voice.

02.01.2022 THE UTTER HYPOCRISY OF THE BEREJIKLIAN GOVERNMENT. Many of you will have seen Berejkilian and Environment Minister Matt Kean on TV, rubbing their hands in glee... as they self congratulate over setting up the Guula Ngurra National Park in the southern highlands of NSW. Berejiklian claims the creation of this park delivers on our commitment from the 2019 election and is an important step to securing the future of koalas in the wild. Koalas are an iconic Australian animal and national parks like this protect their habitat for future generations, says the hypocrite in chief, Berejiklian. MEANTIME.. back in the north coast forests -primary koala habitat- is being eradicated. This region has been repeatedly identified as the last major stronghold for koalas in the state. The Berejiklian government knows full well retention of these forests is critical to koalas surviving. Bushfires caused utter devastation in the mid and north coast forests. It’s almost incomprehensible that any sane politician ( ? ?) would allow industrial logging in forests badly damaged by bushfires. Koala Crisis spoke with a well known experienced ecologist who has been part of a massive community effort to try and stop Forestry’s killing sprees. The Forestry Corporation is targeting every remaining koala hot spot on the mid north and north coast forests. One after another. Koalas are being driven to extinction by the NSW government. This is the reality of koala policy in NSW. Know that when Berejiklian gets out in the media and proclaims her concern for koalas. she’s lying in her back teeth. And don’t be fooled by smiling Minister Kean. Until such time as a moratorium on logging is put in motion and a proper population estimate of koalas remaining in NSW is done, koalas are on the extinction trajectory. Her words are just propaganda. Spin. Unless Kean delivers the George’s River National Park and the Great Koala Park on the mid north coast, his credentials are poor. Koala Crisis is grateful as are all of us when biodiversity is protected by National Park status and it’s great to have more wildlife protected with Gula Ngurra declared BUT.. The two most urgent priorities in terms of koalas having any chance of a future are the establishment of the Great Koala National Park on the mid north coast.. the campaign to have this important, critical area designated a Koala Park has had enormous community, public and political support. Instead. The hypocrite in chief’s Forestry Corporation is logging koalas forests. Destroying the habitat which would have been protected by National Park status. The George’s River Koala National Park is so important for the survival of southwest Sydney koalas. Matt Kean has been out to the area, he gave community activists a semi promise of a park being created. Nothing has happened since. The southwest Sydney koala population is the only chlamydia free expanding population in the state. Instead. The Greater MacArthur developmental project will not only threaten any chance of koala survival, but any wildlife. This project is enthusiastically supported and made possible by the Berejiklian government, leaving no stone un-turned in its efforts to block any legal challenges or changes recommended by expert scientists. As Patricia Durman, an extraordinarily dedicated community activist, says. Six thousand hectares of bush and farm land will be destroyed, habitat and wildlife corridors lost and covered in dark rooved houses, high rise and shops between Wilton and Campbelltown. This is home to the last Chlamydia free and expanding koala population left along with a Noahs ark of native animals and birds. Let’s not forget the looming destruction of koala habitat at Port Stephens with the massive expansion of the Brandy Hill Quarry given the go ahead, in spite of loss of important koala habitat. Or Gunnedah and the Shenhua mine posing the likely extinction of an already stressed sick koala population. Or Pilliga forests remaining colonies as Santos awaits approval to start mining. The logging goes on and on. Every day. Koala Crisis is deeply engaged with the Indigenous Justice Advocacy Network as we dig into a scandal of biblical proportions. In a word. The state and federal governments along with vested interests have conspired and ensured that forests ( which are ecosystems, habitat for significant biodiversity, important for negating climate change impacts, carbon emissions etc ) are tied up in laws that prohibit ANY civil enforcement or action by the public interest. Forests are hostages of the Forces of Darkness which play daily charades pretending to be responsible leaders. Seriously. If you want to save any of Australia’s iconic, irreplaceable, suffering wildlife, it’s time to get political. Get the details of your local MP, contact him/her. Bleat. Yell. Write letters, organise your street to protest, wear a mask, stay l.5 m. socially distance but please do something. There is so much on the line.

02.01.2022 Just so exquisite..

02.01.2022 Outrageous. While everyone’s distracted by the pandemic, the Morrison Government is trying to ram through disastrous changes to gut our environment laws, before... anyone can ask questions. We’ve united with five of Australia’s biggest environment groups to launch a huge advertising campaign the Morrison Government can’t ignore. Share our hard-hitting ad now as it hits TV & billboards. Together, let’s get this message in front of hundreds of thousands of people! Share and tag Scott Morrison (ScoMo) & Sussan Ley MP

02.01.2022 UPDATE ON BRANDY HILL QUARRY EXPANSION. The public outcry is awesome. But given the political deafness at the state and federal level, the Federal Environme...nt Minister Sussan Ley can walk away from the public " noise". We are zombies to Berejiklian, Barilaro, Morrison/Ley and the rest of these nightmare politicians. Yes, NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean grumbled at the decision by Ley. But it was his government which fast tracked the approval knowing full well that given the Morrison government’s record, Ley would approve. So why didn't he speak out when the Department of Planning handed the development over to the " Independent Planning Commission." Did he give evidence of his opposition to the IPC ? Where's the record of his protests at government level before any NSW approval was given ? The Federal Minister's approval is the usual stuff. Full of fancy sounding conditions, a Koala Plan has to be approved, a Koala Habitat Plan has to be approved, an area of land will be planted out as habitat never mind it takes a minimum of seven years to be useful as a feed and shelter tree. Never mind about the noise, dust, destruction.. the sound of trees being crushed as they're bulldozed to the ground. Never mind that every inch of healthy habitat needs to be protected if any koalas are to survive in the state. What did Kean do about the latest effort by Berejiklian/Barilaro which will see the State Environment Planning Policy for koalas so weakened as to be a sick joke ? Where's Kean's opposition ? Koala Crisis can’t think of a single Koala Plan which has been a Federal government condition of approval that has saved one koala. The only possible way to try and prevent this appalling development is legally. Koala Crisis has engaged a lawyer with considerable environmental law experience. A legal conference will be organised next week with a barrister who has indicated she is interested and may be willing to take up the matter. The extent of dirty business which has driven so many projects which can/could/are resulting in more and more koala deaths is a national scandal. Every day the Sydney Morning Herald is revealing more and more evidence of corruption. Until such time as the lawyers can confirm the possibility of legal action, KC can only at this stage- reassure everyone that our mother group, Australians for Animals Inc. is on the job with the lawyers. Fortunately, the charity has kept vigorously researched files, documents, and useful evidence. The conflicts of interest and highly questionable actions by various actors including governments, politicians, developers, banks, etc. are becoming a plague in this country. Although there are petitions out there wanting to persuade the Federal government to upgrade koalas to endangered status , there’s no way that this can happen without a complex series of actions which include scientific evidence, endless delays waiting for submissions to assessed, more delays and finally it’s all left to the Minister. A process that can take years. The only way you can effectively protest is to identify/contact your local member of parliament, Liberal, National or Labor and let them know you are really angry about the ongoing politically driven extinction of koalas and all the wildlife which share koala habitat. KC will keep you all posted as best we can. Please understand that legal tactics are not going to be on Facebook for obvious reasons. And.. if there is the possibility of a challenge, no one can predict the outcome. We have to keep the faith. There are literally millions of Australians, plus celebs, plus international concerned people who are boiling with rage of this latest effort to kill off koalas. We must win.
