22.01.2022 Skateboarding in Australia has a strong representation of Indigenous people and backgrounds, and over the years a lot of development programs have been focused on places with strong indigenous populations. Skateboarding is a place where our first nations people are celebrated and welcomed with open arms. In 2020, Top Indigenous skateboarders united to deliver the first nations skateboarding showcase at the Rumble on the Reef. This was an indigenous demo, and was widely recei...ved by the community. Our focus it to continue the good work of our brothers and sisters and create a strong representation of our indigenous skateboarders and the community. It is with great pleasure we announce Josh Weribone as our Ambassador for Indigenous affairs. Josh is an absolute leader on and off the skateboard. Josh was born and raised in Toowoomba with his ancestors hailing from the St George Region. He spends time with the up and coming skateboarders regularly and offers support as well as being a great friend to the other competitors and bringing a great energy to skateboarding events. Josh will be our Ambassador for Indigenous affairs and an advisor who will collaborate with the initiative to make sure First Nations people have a voice in skateboarding. Part of @australian_skateboarding and Rumble on the Reefs commitment to Australian Skateboarding is to have a fully functioning premier competition circuit by 2025. ... This will create a top-level pathway for all grassroots in Australia, and events will cater to a wide audience more than just competitors, culminating all cultures of skateboarding into festivals. These multi-day festivals as pathways to Rumble on the reef will be major events in themselves. Putting these together and making sure they are the highest quality means finding the right regions, partners and opportunities to make sure skateboarding has the best chance of success. We are pleased to announce that the @cityofrockingham , in Conjunction with @rumbleonthereef , will be the first premier event to deliver a stop as a pathway to Rumble on the Reef. The event is due to be delivered late March 2021, with dates being finalised as we speak. The Rockingham Rumble will have the highest prize money for street in the entire state of WA, and provide a valuable opportunity to skateboarders in the west to travel, and also skateboarders from all over Australia to come and experience WA. The Port Kennedy skatepark will host the street championships, with multiple locations across the region hosting other activations such as Launch parties, games of skate and other events.
