25.01.2022 We spotted this panel the other day while on another job. We knocked on the owners door and informed him. He thinks it may have been caused by crows carrying dog bones over the house as he often sees them them. It would explain why there was nothing laying around that looked like it could have damaged it. The system was shut down and a replacement panel is being sought. 13.01.2022 Hi all, I've just stumbled upon this animation by solar panel manufacturer REC showing how a solar panel is working as the shadow from a small pipe passes over it through the day. Cells in a solar panel are connected in groups called "strings". In this case there are 20 cells in a string and 3 strings in the panel. The cells in a string are connected in series, this means each cell can only output the same as the lowest producing cell. This has a dramatic effect on the output... of that solar panel. Solar panels are also connected in groups of strings, and now we start to see the flow on effect from a little bit of shade! In most systems, each panel in a string can only output the same as the lowest producing panel. With 12 panels sometimes in a string, the overall effect becomes conciderable! Dirt on a panel also acts as a source of shade. This is why keeping your panels clean will not only maintain your warranty but insure the system as a whole is operating to its full potential. 08.01.2022 Don't forget to regularly maintain your solar PV system. With wet weather on the way, water ingress to isolators and PV components is a real risk. Make sure your system and family remain safe this winter and book your clean and inspection today. Australian Solar Care WA - Helping our customers safely harness the energy from the sun.
