24.01.2022 A big thank you to everyone who made it today, especially Rowan Rohan Kay, Matt Dean, Ali El Gohary, Tony Brennan, Anna Maynard and this month’s feature act, George Begbie. We are having a break over Xmas but will kick off again in the new year.

23.01.2022 This years ASA Music Award will he held this Wednesday at the Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club this Wednesday, 30th October.

23.01.2022 This is not normally a site for advertising musical instruments for sale, but it’s not often a local person is selling a baby grand piano. I would love one but would probably end up using it to dry towels.

23.01.2022 This will not come as a surprise but 48 hours is a long time in light of this virus, so we have decided to cancel this Saturday’s concert. Apologies to all the artists, but especially to Tony Brennan who was celebrating his 55th birthday and plying material form his new solo album. We have a residency at The Fern Tree Tavern and will be announcing details once things settle in the world. ... Remember to post your live performances online in the interim !

George, a former winner of the competition was short listed with two of his songs. We would love for any of our Tasmanian members to post their shortlisted songs here. I understand there were a record number of entires this year. Below is a link to Nuria’s new film clip. Hopefully we will see Nuria and Geore perform at the annual song contest in Sydney in 2021.

17.01.2022 Really sad to hear of the passing of Mike Noga. A great solo artist and songwriter, known for his work with The Drones and Legends of Motorsport. Growing up, he was a neighbor and my sister was his baby sitter. He was an absolutely brilliant drummer and I have a lovely memory of him playing a Muppets drum kit as a 5 year old. My thoughts are with his sisters, Allison and Simmone. It’s a real loss to our music community.

15.01.2022 Our next ASA / I-Heart Songwriting Club afternoon will be held between 2pm and 6pm on Saturday, 25th January. Ian Paulin is our feature act. If you would like to play or find out more details, PM here. We will be having a break over Xmas.

15.01.2022 Congratulations to local member and former ASA songwriter of year, Ian Paulin on his new album. It’s brilliant, worth a listen for those wanting a master class on the art of songwriting. Having toured with everyone who has ever been famous, great to see Ian back in the recording studio with new material.

14.01.2022 Just a reminder our next combined ASA Wax Lyrical and I Heart Songwriting Event is taking place this Saturday, the 25th January between 2pm and 6pm. It will be a house concert, PM for details. Confirmed to play are Ian Paulin, this months feature act, Robyn Nidorfer, Tony Brennan, Matt Dean, Ali El Gohary and Rowan Smith. We still have a few spaces left if people would like to play. ... The one after this will be on the 22nd February - a big thank you to Alan Gilmour from the ASA National Office for supplying us with a new banner.

12.01.2022 A great new recording form one of the regulars at our wax Lyrical Events.

12.01.2022 The Australian Songwriters Wax Lyrical Nights will be starting up again at The Fern Tree Tavern on the 28th November. Our feature act will be Nuria. The event will start at 4pm. Thanks for everyone’s patience during Covid. As much as we love the house concerts, it’s nice to be moving to an established and popular music venue. Poster and details to follow. This will be a monthly event.

There will be open mike at the end. If you would like to play at a future event, let me know. This event will also feature members of the I-Heart Songwriting Club. It’s a BYO food and alcohol event and is kid friendly. We really to create an environment where people really listen to the performers, which unfortunately these days does not always happen at public shows. Thank you to everyone that responded to my previous post. See more

08.01.2022 Make a note of the date, great line up and poster !

08.01.2022 Really sad to hear about the passing of Mental As Anything frontman, Greedy Smith. A great songwriter responsible for some of the bands iconic hits. I first met Greedy in 2006 at the ASA Awards Night. I was seated with him and Martin Plazza, both very funny and entertaining people. That night, they played acoustically and later I saw the full band at The Republic. What struck me is how many songs I knew and just why they were one of the country’s great live acts. I will share a post of the song they opened their sets with, as it’s such a happy fun song.

07.01.2022 One of our best shows in 21 years last night at The Fern Tree Tavern. Such a beautiful and respectful audience. Here are some photos taken by Carly Allen and myself.

07.01.2022 November, 2019 marks the 15 year anniversary of ASA wax lyrical events in Hobart. To celebrate I want to organize a house concert. The idea being that we hold an event for songwriters where people really pay attention to the music. If you would like to be part of the event PM me or comment below. Venue details and dates will be announced soon.

06.01.2022 This Sunday at The Fern Tree Tavern...

05.01.2022 Fantastic for all the Tasmanian artists who got their photos in this months ASA magazine. The magazine is the longest running music publication of its type in the country with the biggest distribution base. A great way to garner industry and peer attention. Patrick Chung, Ian Paulin, Bryce Tilyard, Carly Allen, Robert Kellond, Ryk Goddard, Jolon Van Santen, Matthew Valentyne, Nuria, George Begbie and Robyn Nidorfer. These photos represent highlight from our November and December events.

04.01.2022 As well as canceling this Saturday’s house concert, we are also cancelling our planned launch at Fern Tree Tavern on Anzac Day. What I can say is the Fern Tree Tavern have been fantastic to deal with and very supportive. Looking forward to our first show there with I Heart Songwriting Club and will make an announcement of a new date when we can. ... And please post videos of you playing your original songs on Facebook.

03.01.2022 Big day of putting the posters up for our next event. A big thank you to The Wilderness Society for printing these of recycled paper and Kate Baker for waking around town today to put them up in all the cafes.

03.01.2022 Great event yesterday, 43 people ! Thanks to everyone that played, let’s do it again next month on Saturday, 21st March between 2pm and 6pm. Tony Brennan is our feature act. An extra special thank you to Michael for taking care of the sound desk.

02.01.2022 Congratulations to all the winners in the ASA songwriter awards held last night in Sydney. Fantastic to see Mental as Anything inducted into the Hall of Fame. I was fortunate enough to sit next to Greedy Smith and Martin Plazza the year the Little River Band was inducted. Both are very funny lovely guys and great writers. Was saddened to here Martin has some health problems at the moment. All I can say, is you don’t really know this band until you see them live and recognize 20 or so top 30 singles and think, no way, is didn’t know that was one of their songs...

Also down to play are Nuria, Andrea Dray, Rowan Kay, Rowan Smith, Adrian Beith, Tony Brennan, Matt Dean, Robyn Nidorfer and Darcy Lefroy. Also welcoming our newest member, Carly Allen.
