21.01.2022 A good roll up for Tynwald Day

20.01.2022 Good morning on this beautiful, crisp morning. The sun is shining, melting the huge frost away. Tynwald Day Sunday 5th July is the national day of the Isle of Man. We will be celebrating at 4pm -earlier because it gets cold, with warming traditional food, letters of acknowledgement, poem, piping, the story if Tynwald Day and we will finish at 5pm with the flag lowering. We hope to see you there.

18.01.2022 Hey guys, anyone who was at the St Andrew's Day dinner by chance see a silver tray used for the haggis address? It was a small one that George carried the whiskey on. It has a huge sentimental value to its owner. Please contact myself or Judi Toms if you may have accidently picked it up or had noticed it anywhere. Thanks

18.01.2022 Tynwald Day flag ceremony at Australian Standing Stones

17.01.2022 On Monday, 7 September, at 4.30pm at the Australian Standing Stones there will be an acknowledgement of the 29th anniversary of the raising of the first stone, followed at 5.00pm with the lowering of the Asturias flag acknowledging the Day of Asturias, which is a Celtic area. You can learn a little about this Celtic area and enjoy a light refreshment. This is a free event open to all.

15.01.2022 Every year thousands of visitors head to Glen Innes for the Australian Celtic Festival. They are attracted by the unique Celtic experience that is the 4-day eve...nt of the Australian Celtic Festival, the incredible entertainment, and the opportunity to enjoy our famous country hospitality. The Festival attracts clans, cultural groups, dancers, and performers from around the world. Visitors experience Celtic music, performances, and dance at the four stages at the Festival’s main venue, the Australian Standing Stones, and in many venues around town. The four-day Festival features entertainment that includes a street parade, kirking of the Tartan, massed pipe bands, a re-enactment village, buskers, workshops, yard dog trials, children’s entertainment, a fun run, dancing, flag-raising ceremonies, poet breakfasts, market stalls, and Celtic foods. Each year the Festival celebrates one of the Celtic nations. The 2021 Festival will honour Ireland and the Isle of Man and will run from Thursday 29th April to 2nd May 2021. For further details head to the Australian Celtic Festival's website: https://www.australiancelticfestival.com/ or follow their Facebook page: Australian Celtic Festival We do recommend booking sooner rather than later for the Australian Celtic Festival as Glen Innes is booked out every year. So if you are looking for accommodation head to our Glen Innes Highlands Visitor Association Website and you will find contact details for our business members here: https://gihva.com.au/partners/ Come experience this unique Festival in the spectacularly colourful Autumn that is a highlight of our cool New England climate.

10.01.2022 We will be going ahead with a dampish flag lowering at 4

09.01.2022 Well it was damp. Five brave souls there were. We couldn't entice visitors to join in

08.01.2022 Time to get the protractor out, and watch your latitude! The spring equinox is a day when sun angle is quite revealing, because on this day, the noon shadow is... directly related to the latitude where you are. By measuring the solar noon angle, your latitude is: the angle less 90. On the equinox at the equator, 0 degrees latitude, the sun is directly overhead, so the angle at noon is 90 degrees: 90 degrees less 90 = 0 (the equator). What is the latitude of Glen Innes? The solar noon angle will be just over 60 degrees - on Tuesday you could measure it! So, 60.25 minus 90 = -29.75 - our latitude! #australianstandingstones #SpringInGlen at The Australian Standing Stones National Celtic Monument #GlenInnesHighlands See more
