21.01.2022 Seeking the country life in a community that embraces inclusiveness and sustainability? Take a look at Boonah when you next Visit Scenic Rim. And to prove these traits are for real, they've placed three whimsical chook- inspired little sculptures in the town square outside the Scenic Rim Regional Council offices to discover. All are accessible by everyone, big and small. And you can't help but chuckle! Called 'Free Range', they were created by renowned metal sculptor Christop...her Trotter last year. On this occasion, the pieces are crafted from 'found objects'. 2020 Awards closed. 18.01.2022 'It's better in Blackall where the sunset lights the sky, the aroma of gidgee, and freedom down the dusty track in the middle of Queensland's great outback.' We love that it features Richard Moffat's 'Roly Poly' landmark sculpture, the Blackall Showground mural by The Sauce Studio and other works. What a ripper, Better in Blackall Festival! 17.01.2022 Love the poppy mosaic tiles (edit:) by Claudia Williams! And they're very fitting, because today is Remembrance Day. And the sculpture, titled 'Samson', was created by Sue Tilley - Artist & Sculptor using vintage metal objects collected from around Julia Creek. 'Samson' is complemented by a series of lighthorse silhouettes and Williams' carpet of red poppies. Check it out when you Experience Outback Queensland, Australia. Why are red poppies associated with Remembrance Day? T...he reason, it turns out, is because they grew quickly after each conflict in the Battle of Flanders. The Battle of Flanders was, in fact, five battles fought in northern France and Belgium on the Western Front in WWI. During each fight the dirt was torn to pieces by shelling and gunfire. With the ground still shredded, poppies would begin to appear, springing up soon after the firing stopped. Blooming blood-red in defiance. Echoing the bloodshed of the Great War, their scarlet petals became a poignant symbol of the loss associated with these and other battles. It was a Canadian doctor, Major John McCrae, who first penned a poem during the aftermath of the second Battle of Flanders at Ypres in 1915 that highlighted the impact that these flowers had on morale. In doing so he cemented the poppies' association with war forever. The first stanza is: "In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below." Lest We Forget. Sculpture location: Outside the Julia Creek RSL, less than a 5 minute walk from the Julia Creek Visitor Information Centre. Awards close this Monday, 16 November. www.streetartawards.com.au Photos by Australian Street Art Awards. #ausstreetartawards #streetart #publicart #mural #memorial #sculpture #regionalart #regionaltouris #travelaus #seeaustraliafirst #travellingaustralia #remembranceday #lestweforget #juliacreek

15.01.2022 It comes in a tin, so it's called Tinnies. That's cool, but not as cool as employing artists every time Tinnies releases a new beer! Yep, every can of beer sports a mini mural. These bril brewers say it came out of a curious thirst for collaboration. So slip into the weekend and bend an elbow in tribute to artists like Callum Preston, Sarah Sculley and Alex Lehours.
