25.01.2022 The TAS Leg of 2020 ASA Nationals will be hosted by Strongwoman Australia on the 29th of November at Van Demon Fitness. This event will be strictly limited to 20 competitors, with no spots held and no priority given to any competitors - once entries go out, first in best dressed to sign up gets a spot. A link to the sign up will be sent to all competitors who have qualified, and if you need to purchase a first-year ASA membership you will be able to do this at the competition sign-up. Competitors can only compete in the weight class they have qualified in. If you have qualified in multiple weight classes, you may choose one of them to compete in.
25.01.2022 How bloody good is this? Chantelle is an absolutely fantastic representative for strongwoman in Australia, and we hope she can make a return trip to back up her 2nd place from the 2019 Australian Strongman Alliance Nationals for when we can reschedule!
24.01.2022 How great is this shout out from some of the world's best athletes to the 2019 ASA Champion + World's Strongest <90kg Man, Ngarimu! Absolutely one of the best athletes we've seen at one of our competitions, and we hope we'll see him back on the platform when we have ASA comps running in WA again.
24.01.2022 We are excited to announce that Tasmanian Strength Alliance are our state representatives for Tasmania, keep an eye on the page for all ASA state qualifiers
20.01.2022 Hi everyone, apologies for the hiatus of information on the page. Has been a crazy year (for everyone). Just putting this post up to see if any Adaptive Athle...tes would be interested in competing in a Adaptive Strongman Competition here in Australia next year if I was to host one. Please share, would be great to see all the incredible talent here in Australia competing in one location . See more
20.01.2022 Entries for the 2020 Australian Strongman Alliance Nationals opened this morning, and a few hours later we're 50% full on the QLD Metro event, with most other states having a good number of entrants already. The more people who enter, the more prize money - the purse solely from entries is already at $600, and we're hoping for this to be a couple of thousand dollars by the time entries close. All qualified competitors will have received their link to enter, and you have until 15/11 to sign up - all events are limited to 20 competitors; make sure you sign up ASAP to guarantee yourself a spot!
19.01.2022 OSG Shout Out - Benny Chessum Strongman This was Benny's first hit out at an international strongman competition, and it couldn't have been tougher - the Masters division at OSG had to have been the most stacked Masters division that's ever been run. Benny represented Australia incredibly well, and we can't wait to see him back at Nationals to defend his title for 2020.
17.01.2022 Events for the 2020 Australian Strongman Alliance Nationals While we were looking forward to stone pong, head to head farmers battles and opportunities to set Australian and World records in some of the most crowd-pleasing events out there, we've had to go with some more 'standardised' events for this years remote Nationals to allow all event organisers to put on matching events. Event 1 - Sandbag Carry - 20 + 20m... Event 2 - Log Clean/Press - Reps in 60s Event 3 - Farmers Walk - 3 Attempt Max Event 4 - The Axle - weighted scoring per movement Event 5 - 18" Deadlift - Rising Bar All weights and rules TBA. We know it's not the Nationals you expected after the last 4 years of bespoke, flagship events every year, but with cheap entry and prize money up for grabs we hope everybody who has qualified will want a chance to rank themselves against some of the best competitors in the country (and world) on these classic feats of strength. To keep up to date with Nationals updates, please make sure you join the Australian Strongman Alliance Members group as notifications are much more consistent for updates.
17.01.2022 ASA NATIONALS The news you've all been waiting for. It's been a pretty crappy year for big strongman events across the board - and it's still not finished with yet. After we learned the Ekka had been cancelled (along with our purpose-designed strongman arena with seating, a bar and VIP dining overlooking the arena - as far as we know, a first for strongman in the country), we had hoped that closer to the end of the year we might have had some more certainty with restrictions ...and border closures. As it's become clear we're unlikely to have any more certainty for the rest of 2020, we've decided to push ahead with a remote/online Nationals on a state-by-state basis. While we're still ironing out the logistics, we will be hosting a number of simultaneous events, with identical events/implements/scoring, at multiple locations around the country. Where possible we will have 2 events in our bigger states (both metro and rural), meaning everybody shouldn't have too far to travel to compete. While we're unfortunately unable to offer bespoke competition events to reduce the barrier for our competition hosts, we are looking at events that will test all aspects of the sport and most importantly be fun to compete in. Entry fees will be low, open to all current ASA members who have previously qualified for Nationals, and 50% of entry fees will be provided as a prize pool for weight class winners. Although we currently have over 100 competitors who have qualified for this competition, there are some states who have been unable to run qualifiers. We will be working with your state representatives to come up with solutions to hopefully give everybody an opportunity to compete fairly. This competition is slated for around the end of November, with some more concrete information released in the next week or two. As I mentioned earlier, it's been a pretty crappy year for everybody, but if you're in a position to become an ASA member to support a grassroots organisation which is run entirely by volunteers, we'd love your support. Click the link below to send our page a message, and one of our team will get back to you with information on how you can sign up.
17.01.2022 The ACT Leg of 2020 ASA Nationals will be hosted by Burley Strength on the 29th of November.
17.01.2022 For those of you who missed the livestream announcement yesterday afternoon, big news for 2021 is the Australian Strongman Alliance will be introducing our 'Elite' competitor title. This title is earned by a competitor winning Nationals 3 years in a row in the same weight class. The title is maintained providing they continue competing at Nationals in that weight class, and will only be lost if a competitor chooses not to compete two years in a row (they can miss one, but mus...t compete the following year or they will lose the title). Multiple elite athletes can exist within a weight class with an additional pathway to becoming elite - if a competitor beats an existing elite athlete on two consecutive years, they earn the title themselves. Elite status brings a number of benefits, including free Australian Strongman Alliance membership, free entry to the Australian Strongman Alliance Nationals including a special competition shirt, as well as free entry to sanctioned ASA competitions in their home state. With all that being said, we would like to introduce our inaugural Australian Strongman Alliance Elite Athletes - Red Wiard - Strongwoman athlete and Alison Dann! The 2021 Nationals will be a chance for a number of additional athletes to be inducted as Elite, something we are keen to see grow into the future.
15.01.2022 Good morning, A big announcement for after the 2020 ASA Nationals (which we will have some news on very soon) is we will be moving to compulsory membership for all ASA competitions. It's simply not viable for us to continue running without compulsory membership for anybody doing our competitions. Not a single dollar goes to anybody organising ASA; every cent goes into running costs or money to athletes. We were pretty excited about being able to contribute to our athletes abs...olutely dominant showing at OSG/USS Pro Women's Worlds last year, and hope to be in a position to provide more and more funding for our athletes. Membership cost will be unchanged - $80 for the initial sign up, and $60 to renew before your membership expires. If your membership has expired, you will need to pay the $80 initial sign up cost again. If you look at our membership cost, it's still significantly lower than alternatives, and way lower than compulsory membership in other strength sports. At this stage membership sign up is a manual process, however we're a few weeks away from a fully automated, self-contained membership system. This will also be a place that members can check whether they've qualified or not, what qualifiers are left around them, and other relevant information. If there are novice divisions that run alongside ASA competitions (ie. the novice division at Brisbane's Strongest Man and Woman), you will not need to be a member to compete in these, however for all weight class divisions membership will be compulsory. If you would like to support a grassroots organisation by becoming a member before it is compulsory, please get in contact with us and we can forward on relevant information. Thanks!
14.01.2022 Just another update re: Nationals. As we've already mentioned a few times, the 2020 ASA Nationals is -not- canceled; we are rescheduling for later in the year, when we can hopefully have free travel between states to allow the most number of competitors to compete. We've been getting a number of messages about the event from people still asking if it was on this weekend, which is why the FB event was just canceled. ... 06.01.2022 Although we were still waiting for final confirmation, the news has just been made public that the 2020 Ekka will be canceled. This is pretty devastating as a c...hance to bring our sport to such a big number of people has been a goal of ours since we first started running competitions, but we totally understand the need to cancel this event due to the current conditions. Over the next week or so we will be chatting to all parties involved in the organisation of this event as well as the international organisations we are affiliated with and try to come up with a plan to reschedule if it's possible for us to. Please don't bombard us with questions about the event - when we have a decision about rescheduling we will let everybody know as soon as possible.
