As a result of our growing membership and requests for ATHA involvement and advice on tiny houses we on the search for more people to help on the ground as State Leads to support the work of ATHA. Have you wondered what ATHA State Leads do? Well let’s hear from a couple of our great leads.... Mel QLD Lead Being in the front seat of Australia’s first tiny house association. Being part of the solution. Knowing we can make a difference for the future of tiny houses. Being at the frontline of change for tiny houses. Staying abreast of proposals being put forward for planning for Tiny Houses. Chatting to new members and finding out about them and what they would like to see happen in Australia. Having a great source of information at hand that is reliable and from people with tiny house building and living experience. Being informed about ongoing changes to state and local council. Peter SA Lead Being an ATHA State lead is a role that makes a positive difference to the Tiny House movement and more importantly the people who aspire for Tiny house living. You have the opportunity to educate, encourage and advocate for change in the way Tiny house living is viewed by the public through interactions with the media and at events, and through presentations and petitions to polititions and various levels of government. The greatest benefit is that you get to meet wonderful people from all walks of life who share a common vision for a better world. If you have the skills to communicate with and bring together people for a worthy cause, and you have a passion for Tiny house living, then being an ATHA State lead gives you the opportunity to make a difference. We are looking for: Two leads in NSW; and additional leads in VIC, QLD, WA, TAS and NT. Don’t know what is expected of ATHA State Leads, not to worry as you will be mentored by existing Leads and the ATHA Committee. These are voluntary roles and we understand everyone’s commitment to balance a healthy work/life balance. 16.01.2022 URGENT CALL OUT to Tiny House Builders for a Builder Technical Reference Group. I am the process of developing an Australian Tiny House Construction Draft Code ...that needs to be submitted to the Australian Building Codes Board by early September - very limited timeframe. I am looking for Tiny House builders who have a STRONG working knowledge of the NCC Vol 2 and who seek to build their tiny houses currently in close alignment to the NCC. We have received interest from the ABCB to put something forward so now is the time. Contributing to this draft Construction Code will require a quick turn around so bear this in mind. I already have the draft structure but need more work to develop it in accordance with the ABCB requirements. 10.01.2022 The finalisation and release of a Tiny House Construction Code has been put on hold until ATHA further explores alternate regulatory mechanisms that may too offer a structure that supports the legitimisation of the tiny house sector. This is a big deal for the tiny house sector, so we want to make sure what we will be advocating is not only well researched, is achievable and will reflect broad acceptance in the sector. It has been my pleasure to oversee the development of a draft Tiny House Construction Code and Guide with the Tiny House Builder Reference Group, which has included Tiny Homes Perth, Freds tiny houses, DZ constructions, Tinypods, Tiny Homes WA and Frontier Tiny Homes. 10.01.2022 Do you have planning background and are a tiny house enthusiasts? We are looking for people with planning experience in all States and Territories to help drive the State Planning response that ATHA will advocating over the coming months. We have done a lot of work to date in developing a Local Planning Policy Template that has been sent out to all State Government Departments and some Local Governments. ATHA needs assistance in each State where you would keep abreast of ...State or Local Government Planning issues, which might allow ATHA to make submissions on and lobby for change to include Tiny Houses. In addition you might be called upon to provide advice to the President or Vice President in media callouts. You won't be alone, you will be working with other planning professionals within ATHA who make up the ATHA Planning working group. If you are keen to be involved and help drive planning reform in your State ATHA would love to hear from you. 06.01.2022 We are excited to be releasing our new look and feel website on Monday 8th February. The new website will allow members to renew online and new members to signup more seamlessly, amongst many other features. The website will contain a range of resources and guides for our members and details on campaigns that we are launching this year. Keep an eye out for further communication on this.
