15.01.2022 Stanthorpe and Ballandean Fires - Update. All of us here at Australian Vinegar were overwhelmed with our family, friends, customers and suppliers contacting us over the past few weeks about the recent fires and how it was impacting us. Our sincere apologies for not getting back to you to thank you for your thoughts as quick as we normally would - its been an extraordinary few weeks. Firstly - We are all OK. The Stanthorpe was stopped by our volunteer and paid firefighters lit...erally across the road from the factory. Whilst we were fine, others were not so lucky, but we live in a wonderful community and the community is rallying to help those affected to recover The Ballandean Fire was stopped just across the road from our vineyards and winery there. Again, amazing work from our volunteers. All is OK, no damage, both fires are out. Above is a few photos of the fire and us. The hills on fire is the hill overlooking our town, our factory is about where the fire meets the left hand side of the photo. The other photos are of our CEO, Ian Henderson, who has been a volunteer firefighter for 20 years. He was called out to the blaze and became the first incident controller of this fire. Ian co-ordinated hundreds of firefighters and emergency service personnel in credibly difficult fire conditions. There were reports of the fire moving at time over 10m/s. On one point Ian was about to move fire operations headquarters to our factory, since the fire was right there and our emergency generator was providing one of the few power sources in town after the substation was destroyed by the fire, but in the end command was setup on the road, between the fire and the factory. It was going to have to get past us if it wanted to get to our factory. The next day we moved to the local fire station and established control there, and it remained there for 10 days till the fire was out. Several of our staff and families were evacuated, some for 5 days. As a vinegar family we looked after them in our homes. Thank you again for your kind messages. If anyone can send us rain - please do!
