23.01.2022 An important read following AVI's End of Financial Year fundraiser to support women in the Pacific whose financial security has been critically threatened by COVID-19. Saturday's World Population Day saw the United Nations reflect on the devastating impacts of COVID-19 for women globally, noting there is 'No time to waste' in empowering women. According to Secretary-General António Guterres, the COVID-19 pandemic affects everyone, everywhere, but it does not affect everyone ...equally... It is deepening existing inequalities and vulnerabilities, particularly for women and girls." The time to act is now. #worldpopulationday #worldpopulationday2020 #women #womensrights #equalrights #equality #humanrights #covid19 #coronavirus #unitednations #globalgoals #SDGs #SustainableDevelopmentGoals

A day for every Australian to reflect and reaffirm their commitment to achieving genuine reconciliation. #InThisTogether #SorryDay2020

12.01.2022 Is Your Business Doing The Right Thing For Children? Its a really important question to ask. Thats why ReThink Orphanages Australia, a cross-sector coalition (including AVI), has developed a new resource to help those in the travel and volunteering sectors responsibly divest from relationships with orphanages. The resource is the result of careful consultation with leaders in tourism, volunteering and child protection and we are very proud AVIs Child Safeguarding Hub Pro...ject Lead, Fiona Williams, was able to lend her expertise as part of the Orphanage Divestment Action Group. The consultation also involved a number of organisations that have already successfully transitioned away from these relationships. ReThink Orphanages believes in a world where no child is needlessly separated from their family, and the institutionalisation of children is a thing of the past. This new, readily available and practical resource will help bring us one step closer. #ReThinkOrphanages #ChildSafety #Travel #Volunteering #ChildProtection

11.01.2022 Some lovely reflections from a handful of third year International Development students from Australian Catholic University (ACU) who recently completed AVI's online MasterClass Series. Instead, they participated in a four week online MasterClass Series delivered by AVI during Lockdown, learning all about how we use best practice in programming. We'll let them tell you how it went! 11.01.2022 On 25th September, AVI, together with AustCham Myanmar hosted a webinar for #WorldTourismDay. Myanmar tourism industry has gone on many bumpy roads but has been resilient says Ms. Vicky Bowman, Director of Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business. Moderated by AVI’s International Projects Coordinator Yin Yin Thatun, the panel was also joined by Daw Aye Mya Mya Soe from Peak DMC Myanmar and U Nyunt Win Naing from MRTI - Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute. ... They discussed the importance of continued support to see responsible tourism the norm and as one of the best contingency plans for post-COVID19 in tourism industry. Under this year’s theme 'Building Peace! Fostering Knowledge', panellists focused on the ongoing internal conflicts in Myanmar and their effect on tourism industry as well as the challenges of 'rebranding' the country to attract tourists again. The panel discussion concluded with the speakers’ wish list for Myanmar’s tourism industry to continue growing more responsibly, working beyond its designated Ministry. For all ministries to come together to achieve a more spatial planning approach, prepare for COVID-related safety regulations and contribute towards a successful peace process in Myanmar. And huge thank you and congratulations to all involved! #worldtourismday2020 #responsibletourism #tourismforpeace
