24.01.2022 I was so lucky to be a part of the interactive Zoom workshop last night with award winning Wearable Artist and Bespoke Costumier Kirsten Fletcher! Kirsten talked about gathering and pleating with some wonderful examples using a variety of textures and finishes using fabrics and plastics. She demonstrated a variety of looks that can be obtained by playing around with the sculptural forms created using these techniques. (Personally I love sculptural shapes in wearable art - ...;-) ) Workshop credit - Teddy McRitchie 4th photo is Kirstens Award Winning piece at WOW World of Wearable Art 2019 Next Workshop: The 2nd of Kirstens online wearable art techniques workshop is all about Weaving - Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 7 PM 8:30 PM Tickets for Registration - $15 https://sunshinecoast.i-events.info//zzzz5acd638a/regform
24.01.2022 Everything conspired perfectly to line up with this creation by Kelcie Bryant-Duguid to give Photographer Grant Wells...that special shot...while filming for the 2020 Virtual Paper on Skin Paper Wearable Art Competition in Tasmania last month......<3 Congratulations to Kelcie for creating Pretend Print-cess (More about multi disciplinary artist and Australian Wearable Artist 2021 finalist Kelcie tomorrow...) "A fleeting momenta split second. During a rolling break, Olivia (the model) and I froze. It was then I noticed the amazing shadows. I grabbed the Fuji, dialled in the exposure and fired off 3 frames. On the third, Olivia turned her head (without direction from me) just enough for her shadow to be in perfect profile. My fave shot!"
24.01.2022 When you have Wearable Artist Denise Lamby for your Mum...you are exposed to outside of the box thinking...and when you are as confident as Malakai Lamby it is reasonable to decide to go to school as - A Bed - on School Pajama Day...

23.01.2022 We are delighted to introduce Paula Herrera, an Argentinean Designer, and advocate of Street Fashion as one of our international entrants to our 2021 competition of extraordinary wearable art! Paula embraces and embodies the Trashion Category of wearable art in her use of reused materials that she often gathers from the streets of Buenos Aires and La Plata for use in her collections. Each piece Paula makes is unique, carries a message and at the same time challenges the pub...lic. A promoter of street fashion which encompasses trends that are outside of magazines and catwalks, Paula participated in the London Queer Fashion Show, in September 2019. This event is championing gender-fluid fashion and inclusivity to the core. The LQFS stage is home to established and emerging fashion designers and is the show to spot new queer talent. The purpose of the show is to express all identities in order for every individual to be recognised and acknowledged. Paula has had a long journey in artistic and cultural production, whose origins date back to her very early years growing up where she collected a box with scraps of fabrics from the dressmakers in her neighbourhood. I was the girl in front of the TV copying the designs of the stars of the movies," she recalls. In the late 1990s, her sewing machine along with the sale of clothes she had accumulated during her youth, served to give birth to a second life. She left behind her family and life of 16 years to move to Buenos Aires to study apparel design and then to La Plata, where she continued in Fine Arts and from there into her stained glass studio windows Chino Calzn in La Plata. @superrcalzon #streetfashion #wearableartist #trashion #zerowaste #sustainablefashion #fashionrevolution #artwork @ Venue 114

11.01.2022 "I have sought to map a journey through densely stitched snapshots of a familiar landscape as viewed through a car window while travelling on a country road. Long car trips are part of the ritual of growing up in rural Australia. The open expanse of sprawling countryside reminds us that we all live under the same blue sky. Reinforcing our shared humanity.... The clouds gather a chance of rain, a sign of hope." "...Our shared humanity..." this could have been written with 2020 in mind... Introducing Australian Wearable Art 2021 Finalist Kelcie Bryant-Duguid. Kelcie Bryant-Duguid is a visual artist living in Sydney. Her art practice is multi-disciplinary with her primary focus lying in the territories of encaustic mixed media and textiles. Her work is a response to the environment, events and issues that resonate with her; with the themes of memory, family, relationships, place and belonging being constantly revisited in her work. Kelcies work is sometimes political as she uses her art practice to give a voice to broader community and societal issues that are of importance to her. It is hard to do justice to the thoughts behind the expression of Kelcies art in this short piece so I urge you to go to her website and read the stories and thoughts that inspired her art... http://kelciebryantduguid.weebly.com/ Kelcie was also a finalist in the 2020 Paper on Skin competition in Tasmania with the photo of her entry Pretend Print-cess taken by Grant Wells one of his favorite photos...see the photo on his blog ... https://www.grantwellsphoto.com.au/grant-wel//be-prepared #multdisciplinaryartist #wearableart #wearableartist #arttellsourstories #paperonskin #visualartist #textileart # freemachineembroidery

09.01.2022 In these extraordinary times, the iconic image of the surgical mask has emerged as a symbol for COVID-19 and the era of social distancing. To document this, artisan invited the international making community to make, remodel, rework, embellish and decorate the simple home-made surgical mask as a creative reflection of the current global experience. Surgical masks carry great meaning. Filtering more than our breath, they can partially obscure our identity while protecting us... from it, and them from us. Artists bring their understanding and experience of this extraordinary time to the surface, using the mask as a starting point. These masks will endure and serve as a document for right now, for what we are going through and for who we really are, in the face of Covid-19. THREE Australian Wearable Artists have entries in this event: Denise Lamby: - pg 2 A Cup of Isolation + p2 Masking shortages Amelia Jan Tahere Angus pg 2 Koru + Kia Ora + Pango Karen Lynch pg 2 Mask of Palm + Woven Together (on same entry frame)

Her Arti...st Statement below plus the link to vote... https://library.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au//Sho/Denise-Lamby Artist statement 2020 and Im ready to share my artistic passion. Open Studios, Fashion runways, gallery exhibitions Enter Covid19. From flat out to lights out Covid19 has rocked the entire world. Initially we grappled with the term Coronavirus remodelled to Covid19 as we understand it today. But its the litany of new phrases, words and underlying meanings that have shifted so quickly, that inspired the creation of Vocabulary Shift. Acrylic on canvas, recycled paper. At first the words are big, bold and new as they enter the media mainstream and the public psyche. Presenters stumble over the specific meaning of terms like self-isolation, quarantine and reproduction rate. As time progresses so does our acceptance and understanding of the words and phrases. They themselves become the new normal. As you scan down the word montage you may notice the subtle shift as the words become more ordered, consistent in size and not quite as bright and shiny. Vocabulary Shift reflects our acceptance, like the ordered backdrops and neatly stacked book displays, the new normal in the numerous Skype and Zoom meetings to which weve become so accustomed. Even those backdrops have shifted as were learnt to present our polished-selves to the outside world.
