07.01.2022 Caloundra South. Australian Wetlands implemented the Wallum Sedge Frog Habitat Plan. Part of the 13 hectare project included constructed breeding and refuge ponds where ephemerality is an important factor. In this part of the project Australian Wetlands imported 15000 cubic metres of carefully selected topsoil material from other areas on the development site and placed it over a compacted and geotextile lined sub grade. This mimicks the conditions where ephemeral ponds form after rain in Wallum (Heath). Note the tannin stained and acidic water which the Wallum Sedge frog needs. Around 100000 plants planted. Cant wait to see this after the growing season.
