25.01.2022 This International Workers Day, we recognise the dignity and worth of all young workers, especially those on the front lines of this Global Pandemic and all those who have died on labours battlefield. This May Day the AYCW remembers that 'Human work is any human activity at all where a person freely uses their creative mind and their body to take hold of the world around them, to transform it, to use it and to make it usable for society.' This applies to all people, students..., stay at homes parents, carers and even the unemployed. 'The fact that these are not rewarded by a weekly pay, does not detract from these acts that are freely undertaken to transform the world.' Please join our National May Day Action and post a picture of yourself, a dear one or a colleague, stating a bit about your work history, what is important to you when it comes to work and use the hashtags: #IAMYCW #WORKERSTORIES #AYOUNGWORKERLIKEME #MAYDAY2020 Nominate some friends to spread awareness and advocate for all workers, especially those who have been left behind in this Global pandemic. 24.01.2022 This Harmony Week, we are reminded that celebrating and embracing diversity needs to be more than reciting platitudes. After the events of last week and the tragic loss of life that took place in Christchurch, we are reminded that there should be no place in our world for violence and the intolerance of different cultures, faiths and communities. In the words of our founder Joseph Cardijn, We are always beginning again." This Harmony Week, let us begin again, to work towards... peace, to learn to love and respect one another. To our Muslim Brothers and Sisters who are in mourning and all those who have suffered because of the hatred of those who do not seek to understand and instead seek violence and destruction, we stand with you. We stand with your communities and loved ones. Our thoughts and our prayers are with you and your families.

23.01.2022 Over the next few weeks Parramatta YCW will be interviewing young people who have been impacted by the Coronavirus Pandemic . We aim to demonstrate the far reaching effects of the virus on how young workers live out their personal, work and spiritual life. Finally, the series will highlight the groups and minorities that were most disadvantaged by the pandemic. This is YCW COVID Story

21.01.2022 This Refugee Week, as we celebrate the Year of Welcome 2020 - The Australian YCW would like to recognise how particularly difficult this year has been for all People Seeking Asylum and Refuge during Covid-19. We believe that one of the best things you can do, to commemorate the Year of Welcome, is to educate yourself and become more informed about the reality of this Global Crisis, through the stories of those who have lived and continue to live this reality. We are privileged to share the story of Obey, a fellow comrade and full-timer for the YCS in Parramatta, Sydney. Video to follow shortly!

20.01.2022 Last Sunday, some young people from around Melbourne came together to review practical sustainability. There was laughter, beeswax, recycling and some really delicious carrot-top Pesto.... 19.01.2022 Great actions coming from Perth YCW! https://www.facebook.com/972674836215513/posts/1250925158390478/

19.01.2022 We live in unprecedented and uncertain times and with so much anxiety, fear and social isolation - our greatest failures will be turning our backs on people, giving in to the fear mongering and panic and choosing violence over solidarity and compassion. In this global crisis, EVERYONE is affected and EVERYONE is suffering from the impacts. This is exactly why we need to stand UP for those who are vulnerable in our communities and who may not have access to health and welfar...e services and stand WITH those who have been forgotten by the same institutions and systems that benefited from their presence before this pandemic, but who now can not support them and instead tell them to go home. FYI - The International Education Sector is Australia's largest service-based export, contributing almost $38 Billion to Australia's economy as of our last financial year. No person - irrespective of their age, ethnicity, disability, sexuality etc. deserves to be treated the way that these International students have been. No society and government should condone the undignified and inhumane treatment of any person. And no one should be left behind, especially in the particularly scary and unpredictable world that we live in right now. The YCW stands in solidarity with all International Students, temporary Visa Holders, Migrants and Refugees and with all members of our local communities who are vulnerable and in need of friendship and support right now.

12.01.2022 #IamYCW #internationallabourday #YCWYCS Shout out to Alicja from Parramatta YCW for her creative approach to this challenge and her honest sharing and courage. 'Thank you Christina for the shout out to the Parramatta YCW Team on International Workers Day. Thank you for the nomination. I encourage our fellow YCW and YCS workers in Australia, Queensland, Victoria, Adelaide and Perth, to join in and share your worker story as well. Jason Hill, Ada Snell, Achut Thuc, Alexie Mirt...hil, Meka McCormack My name is Alicja Borciuch and I am an Australian public servant. For 5 years, my 9 to 5 job, working for the Australian Government and delivering on services to Australian people in their time of need, circumstances and stages in life. Besides my 9 to 5 job, I am Young Christian Worker (YCW). I am also the Parramatta YCW Secretary. YCW is an international Catholic movement run by young people for young people. We seek to organise, educate and empower young people to be leaders of positive change in their own lives and their own communities. The type of change we make is informed by our values, beliefs and faith. We believe that both the personal and collective action is that starting point for justice, dignity and harmony in our world. My story started 3 years ago with Young Christian Workers. One of the greatest joys to be part of a great community of young people, filled with passion, faith, justice. Participating in the Cardijn method- SEE, JUDGE and ACT, we review our current realities as well as issues of concern. We can be the forces of positive change. This change, these actions, informed by our faith, believes and values why change is needed, what should be happening, what can we do. I have been inspired by people of resilence, hardship and adversities in my life. It is something that has kept me going and made me persevere and grow stronger. I always have placed my trust in our Lord Jesus and our Holy Mother, Mary. All I am, the graces and blessings I have received, I thank God for everything. My values are solidarity, compassion, justice, fairness, kindness, respect, family and faith. My hope during this COVID-19, that we appreciate and are thankful for the small things, for life itself, beauty of nature, the blessings we have received, those we love and care for. That we also look out for the vulnerable and marginalised in our communties and not leave anyone behind. After COVID-19, I hope that all communties in Australia come together, various faiths, beliefs and cultural backgrounds, that we build bridges and dialogue with one another, with our neighbours and those in our communities we may not know. We are in this together, to build back better, fairer and inclusive Australia.' See more

12.01.2022 In commemoration of Nelson Mandela on the 100th anniversay of his birth, we remember him as a strong advocate for the Young Christian Workers of the world. Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa summed up the mission of the YCW in an address to the IYCW Council. "YCW was founded with the specific aim that the Church should respond to the needs of workers, but not as charity where the workers are passive recipients of aid. YCW`s emphasis on active participation o...f its members in developing plans to change their lives has proved to have great potential for capacity-building among our youth. It is common knowledge that YCW has made a significant contribution to building the organs of civil society in South Africa, in particular worker organisations." Nelson Mandela spoke during the opening ceremony of the YCW World Council in 1995 and you can read his full speech here: http://www.sahistory.org.za//speech-president-nelson-mande God Bless you, Nelson Mandela.

04.01.2022 A Message to our friends in Victoria, We understand how scary and stressful your reality has become, once again, these past few weeks. Although we are separated by borders please know that we stand in solidarity with you, are here to listen and be with you, even if not in person. Now more than ever, your Australian YCW family is thinking of you all and while our situations during this pandemic may be different, it does not change the fact that the uncertainty and anxiety that you face, will be shared by us all. Thank you also, to all the wonderful friends (Berhanu Sinamo Deboch & Rudy Dehaney and others) that were made in Cincinnati, for sharing your wisdom and your stories!
