23.01.2022 The latest (March-April 2020) issue of the Australian Geographic Magazine is now out and my #Bird #Nerd column looks at the impacts of #bushfires on birds. Unfo...rtunately the Black Kite image got mislabeled as a Brown Falcon but sometimes these things happen on tight deadlines. If you are an #AG subscriber or whether you pick a copy up at a #magazine outlet, I hope you enjoy the article and the rest of the #amazing content in this #wonderful magazine. See more

18.01.2022 If anyone is planning to head off on a trip within Australia, the #BOM have recently released their updated Autumn forecasts: Climate outlook overview April to June rainfall is likely to be above average for the tropical north of Australia. However, this signal is mostly from April which also indicates a wetter than average month is likely for parts of south-east Australia. May shows a mostly neutral signal, with some areas of the south-west and north likely to be drier than ...average. Maximum temperatures for April to June are likely to be warmer than average for the north-east coast, western WA, and Tasmania, but cooler than average for the Top End of the NT and north-west NSW. April days are likely to be cooler than average for the north-west and eastern mainland Australia, with warmer days likely for much of the western, north-eastern, and Tasmanian coastlines. Minimum temperatures for April to June are likely to be warmer than average for much of Australia, except broad areas of the Australian interior. La Niña is almost over but may have a lingering influence on rainfall patterns into April. More details: http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/ahead/outlooks/

01.01.2022 I have been chatting to Conservation Volunteers Australia recently about the great work they do in habitat restoration and rehabilitation and wildlife conservat...ion. As a past trainer/assessor for them during the Green Army funding project I have a personal connection, and know first hand what an incredibly important job all of their passionate staff and wonderful volunteers do. I have added an extra field to my natural history book store to contribute funds to these efforts, and those of BirdLife Australia and WWF-Australia who I also #support. All of the profits from the sales of my books through my secure website store (https://peterrowlandphotography.com//Natural-History-Books) for the remainder of 2020 will go to one of these great organisations (your choice). [If you want to place an advanced order for my latest title on Butterflies, due out in August] you can contact me directly for these.]
