25.01.2022 You must not fly your drone higher than 120 metres (400 feet). But why? Manned aircraft do not usually operate below 150 metres (500 feet) above ground level un...less they are near an aerodrome or performing some form of emergency operation work. Operating below 120 metres aims to provide a buffer between drones and manned aircraft. Wondering how to measure 120 metres? It’s about the height of a 35-storey building, or the length of a football field. It’s your responsibility to know the height of the drone and keep it below 120 metres at all times during a flight. For more information on the maximum height rule, take a look in our Plain English Guide: https://bit.ly/3jwcYlX

23.01.2022 AAUS responds to Civil Aviation Safety Authority - CASA initiative to support the Australian #drone industry during COVID-19 crisis. https://aaus.org.au/casa-industry-relief/

21.01.2022 Its a busy week on the industry advocacy front! Last year the Australian Government passed legislation to introduce mandatory drone registration and accreditation. AAUS provided significant input towards this new legislation and raised particular concerns in relation to registration fees. Civil Aviation Safety Authority - CASA are now consulting on the proposed charges for registration, including:... 1) an initial fee-free registration period for drones or RPA registered before 30 June 2021 2) introduction of a simplified fee structure, including fixed fees, for other regulatory services providing greater certainty for operators. 3) The consultation is now open and will close on 13 September 2020. AAUS will also be responding to the consultation on behalf of members and will keep you informed.

15.01.2022 #drone encounters with conventionally piloted aircraft are of serious concern to the #rpas industry but we shouldnt be too quick to put weight behind such statistics. Pilot reporting of encounters is known to be inaccurate. The Australian Government Joint Drone Surveillance Program would provide an objective data source that if combined with existing air traffic data feeds could be used to provide a more accurate assessment of near encounters, and to help verify pilot-reported data. We know such encounters are happening and they need to stop for the safety of all airspace users, but we need to base our decisions on the best available safety information.
