09.01.2022 The irony about my 2011 album called What If We Were Real is that on this cover, my hair isn’t, I have tons of makeup on to achieve this natural look, and a...m airbrushed to the hilt! For the last few months I’ve been on a journey of embracing #TheTruthAboutMe. The other day I wrote a song about this journey with Ronnie Freeman and Tony Wood called Masterpiece. I have so many songs about my desire to embrace what God says about me: True Beauty, Definition of Me, What Scars Are For, What You’re Worth, Unfinished, I could go on and on. Ronnie and Tony also wrote this song The Truth About Me, and it hit different listening to it while looking at the real me in the mirror the other day. I’ve teased that I changed my hair, but I haven’t let you see it yet. Here’s why: I’ve subconsciously believed the lie my whole life that my hair in its natural state is not beautiful. That only long, straight, European-like hair is beautiful. #NotTodaySatan I promise I’ll show you my hair soon. But here’s what I believe what will happen: It will be unintentional, but a few of you may comment with something that hurts my feelings; and that’s ok. I’ll quickly forgive you. A very small number of you may be mean on purpose. It’ll take some processing, but I’ll also forgive you...then I will block you). But most of you will say sweet things about how pretty it is, how pretty I am, and how my beauty shines from the inside out (because you’re awesome and kind ). Words of affirmation is my primary love language, so please know that I am so encouraged by that! But the journey I’m on with my Father right now is believing what HE says about me even if no one else does. I’ve been on this journey my whole life, but this year it feels like the walls I’ve built up since childhood are finally coming down. I am entering into The Promised Land, a place where I know my identity, value, and worth. A place where I believe what God says about me over what anyone else, including myself, believes. But because it’s a journey to get to that place, on the way I’ll pray what the man in Mark 9:24 exclaimed to Jesus: I believe! But help me overcome my unbelief!
