ARRB is undertaking a research project for Austroads in looking at improving the cost-effectiveness of asphalt... surfaced granular pavements, by specifically considering the performance of thin asphalt surfacings. To improve our understanding of these surfacings, full-scale testing is being undertaken at ARRB's Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF) in Dandenong, VIC. Alongside this, ARRB has also involved Monash University, who are recording detailed strain information via embedded fibre optic sensors along the pavement.
