25.01.2022 The AusTurtle AGM went online for the first time ever last night. What a bunch of good looking committee members!

24.01.2022 It’s with everyone’s health and safety in mind, the AusTurtle Inc. Committee have decided that we will not be running Research Camps on Bare Sand Island for 2021 at full capacity. This is simply because we cannot adhere to all of the Covid-safe regulations whilst running these camps. The majority of our volunteers are from interstate, we all share facilities and we don’t have the funds or the room on the island to increase the capacity of facilities. Similar to last year, AusTurtle Inc. will be running three weeks of smaller camps to maintain the dataset which has been going for 25 years. These camps will have 4-6 people and will be invitation only, and are not open to volunteers in 2021. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Hopefully we will be seeing you out on the island in 2022!

24.01.2022 Places for AusTurtle's 2020 Research Camps are now open! Head along to www.austurtle.org/volunteering to book your place!

24.01.2022 Merry Christmas from the Darwin AusTurtle Committee and supporters

20.01.2022 Dear AusTurtlers, It is with heavy hearts and with our volunteer’s best interest in mind, the AusTurtle Inc. Management Committee have cancelled the 2020 Bare Sand Island Research Camps. The cancellation is extremely disappointing, but we believe it is the only sensible course of action given the situation facing us all. This decision has not been made lightly and it is the first year in 24 that we will not be running research camps on the island. With the current trajector...y of COVID-19, the tightening of people’s movements and the reduction of domestic flights (especially with so many of our volunteers, camp leaders and camp assistants coming from interstate), the committee has decided that the cancellation of this year’s research camps is the best and safest option for everyone. We hope in making this decision in a timely manner will assist you in gaining any refunds or credits that you have incurred already. To those that has already booked a place, you will be getting a full refund (minus the 50c ticket fee and the $11.38 processing fee as they’re fees from TryBooking that we are unable to refund). If anything changes between now and the research camps, we will let you know. We are also cancelling the Fundraising Dinners to be held on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July. If the situation improves to allow us to hold the dinners, we will let you know via email and our social media accounts. Thank you all for your continued support and understanding. The AusTurtle Management Committee

19.01.2022 *****AUSTURTLE’S WEBSITE IS HAVING A FACELIFT!***** We are expecting the new (and improved!) website at www.austurtle.org to go live this week! With the new website comes a couple of changes... They are: (1) A new and improved website with up to date information about volunteering on Bare Sand Island. The website is a ‘work in progress’ so make sure to check back regularly for updates, especially on the ‘Knowledge Base’ page! (2) The use of an online booking system for reserving a place on the 2020 Research Camps. This booking system will open on 21 December 2019 for the 2020 Research Camps and will be like booking a seat at an event. Please make sure you read the volunteering manual, under 18 policy and refund policy before reserving a place. (3) Payment (in full) must be paid up front via credit card or PayPal for the 2020 season. There will be a booking fee of 2.5% and a 50c ticket fee. (4) Automated receipt and message from AusTurtle Inc. confirming booking straight away. The Research Camps website page will be updated with your name as soon as possible. (5) Volunteering weeks are from Sunday to Sunday (we are trialling this in 2020) (6) New email address [email protected] Happy to receive any feedback on the new site - there are bound to be glitches and areas we can improve on. 15.01.2022 Farewell and good luck Bubble! Bubble is a critically endangered Hawksbill turtle who was found at a boat ramp near Gove last year, severely dehydrated and ...weighing just 16 grams Luckily, Bubble was able to spend 18 months being nursed back to health at CDU's Turtle Rehabilition Centre. He now weighs almost two kilograms and is more than 30cm long! This morning he was successfully released back into the sea at Middle Beach in Gove, with the help of East Arnhem Veterinary Services and Dhimurru Aboriginal Corporation rangers.
