04.01.2022 Changes to Partner Visas announced in the Federal Budget: 1. English language requirements will be introduced for Partner visa applicants AND the sponsor (IF THE SPONSOR IS A PERMANENT RESIDENT ONLY), to enhance social cohesion and economic participation outcomes. This will apply after the Provisional visa has been granted and to applications lodged after 1 July 2021 2. The mandatory family sponsorship provisions for Partner visas will be implemented, requiring character chec...ks and sharing of personal information with the applicant, and enforceable sponsorship obligations. Sponsors will need approval before the applicant can lodge their visa application. 3. Onshore visa applicants and Partner visa applicants where the relevant sponsor resides in a designated regional area, will be prioritised for the 2020-21 Migration Program. 4. 72,300 of the 77,300 places in the family stream will be allocated to partner applicants. 5. Prospective marriage visa (PMV) holders will be able to access a VAC refund (this is in line with information that the Department is not extending the entry date for PMV holders and moving to cancel the visas of those offshore).

03.01.2022 The Department of Home Affairs is trialling an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) mobile app (AustralianETA) for some ETA-eligible passport holders while the travel restrictions are in place. You can apply for an ETA through the app if: - you meet all ETA eligibility requirements and... - you hold a passport from Brunei, Canada, Hong Kong (SAR of China), Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea or the United States of America. Before you can travel on an ETA, you must also be exempt from Australia's travel restrictions. Grant of an ETA through the app does not mean you have been considered for or granted an exemption to travel to Australia. You still need to apply for a travel exemption and provide evidence to support your claims. If you are not granted an exemption, you should not continue with your travel plans, as you will not be permitted to board a flight to Australia. Please note that use of the Australian ETA app incurs a non-refundable service fee of $20. An ETA does not allow you to work in Australia, or stay longer than three months. Visit the app store to download the Australian ETA app
