20.01.2022 One of my colleagues says he’s put on weight through being a bit sedimentary. What word have you misused? Admit your error for my radio show! One of my colleagues says he’s put on weight through being a bit sedimentary. What word have you misused? Admit your error for my radio show!

20.01.2022 Meet Bob, who's been growing apples for 40 years. He's made a library of species on a Tasmanian hillside.

19.01.2022 I've been talking about my new pup on the radio, so here she is - Luna the toy poodle. How cute is she?

19.01.2022 I’m sure you’ve heard a welcome to Country before, but what does country mean to an Aboriginal person? I’ve started this lovely series where I’m invited onto country to find out. Have a listen to Rodney, he’ll give you a new appreciation for Tasmania’s most famous wilderness areas.

18.01.2022 I spotted this wedding party walking with speed and purpose through the city this afternoon. Bride Kate and her groom Gene had originally planned to get married in a month, but Kate's mother is very ill and unlikely to live that long. So they put together a ceremony overnight.... The celebrant's ready, the paperwork is done, the dress was delivered, and the Royal Hobart Hospital gave them a place to do it. Today, love will find a way. They stopped for 2 minutes to tell us about it, before racing off for the ceremony. Even at this late stage on a very stressful day, they had a sense of humour and deep gratitude for the friends and businesses who'd made a sudden wedding possible. Congratulations Kate and Gene!

17.01.2022 Martin is one of the very few gilders left, adding a touch of real gold to works of art. Fascinating story!

17.01.2022 How do you picture a stone mason? A single bloke working over a boulder with a chisel? Come with me inside a modern mason’s workshop at Heritage Stone and hear how it’s done today.

16.01.2022 The Huon Valley was mildly moist today.

15.01.2022 This is an absolute banger. Great work from a pair of local musos.

15.01.2022 I was 20 once. This is me acting in a play at uni.

14.01.2022 This lovely series is called "Handball", where each guest chooses the next one. Last week Adrian Smith sent me to Heather Francis, who is on half the boards in Tasmania. But she started as a Dental Therapist, working on school students in a caravan!

14.01.2022 Handball is a radio series where interesting people introduce me to other interesting people, like cricket coach Sallianne Briggs.

12.01.2022 Meet Elise the wildlife biologist. She'swalked a puma through the jungle, dug for turtle eggs, and recorded the secret songs of Tassie frogs. What a life!

12.01.2022 Never mind the bum spuds, here's what you really do for piles. I'm particularly proud of the photo for this, which I took in the office. It's perfectly innocuous, but it gives you the creeps anyway because you KNOW where it's going next.

10.01.2022 Handball! I started this chain of chats with John X Actor, who sent me to his mate Adrian Smith, marketing guy and singer/screamer in Mountains of Madness!

10.01.2022 I shed a tear recording this. Alison welcomed us to her father's country just a fortnight after his death.

10.01.2022 How do they figure out the pollen count? It takes a clockwork machine, a microscope, and a bottle of pink dye. Dr Penny Jones from AirRater shows us how it works.

09.01.2022 I’m allowed to be a field reporter for ABC Hobart again! Here are some of my latest adventures.

07.01.2022 How do you find a few hundred kilos of chicken feet at short notice? Richard supplies just about all consumables to the Australian and Chinese Antarctic bases. He can get pretty much anything, including tons of that precious toilet paper. Another unexpected interview in the Handball series.

05.01.2022 Have you still got your record collection? Paul is the angel of analogue, restoring old players so you can get your ears in that sweet spot again.

05.01.2022 Today on ABC Hobart we’re doing a little household archaeology. What weird and wonderful things are under your bed?

05.01.2022 It was my day off, but I can't resist a story when it falls in my lap like this!

05.01.2022 Do you have a nose for trouble? Or just a troubled nose?

04.01.2022 That delightful, terrible moment when you get to type "The End". Tonight I finished my fourth book, which took me just over a year to write. It's still a little... rough around the edges, but the characters are great, the story has a cracking pace, and the name is so smart that I don't want to make it public in case someone steals it. I've got endless proof reading and editing in front of me. Plus the terror of handing it over to others for feedback. But this moment is still very satisfying indeed.

01.01.2022 A question for any Australian who grew up watching Americans on TV.

01.01.2022 Visited Martin Watson's Gilding Arts Studio on Bruny Island today. Here he’s putting a layer of gold leaf on a little Buddha, using brushes made of squirrel fur and pony hair. It’s a process requiring great skill and patience. He used to be a monk and this is how he meditates now.
