25.01.2022 "The unpublished manuscript is like an unconfessed sin that festers in the soul, corrupting and contaminating it." Antonio Machado Juan de Mairena, 1943 A little dramatic, but some books are like that. They just have to get out, by hook or by crook.

25.01.2022 I was out and about in Caloundra today with Megan Carige, author of the Happy Day Out series of travel guide books for children. She was set up outside The BookShop at Caloundra. Graeme, the bookstore owner, is such an incredible supporter of indie authors, and particularly local authors. It was wonderful to see so many people shopping local today!

24.01.2022 Welcome to Spring! Our author Belinda Payne from Wiccid knows much about the seasons and has been invited to share her thoughts with Sheridan on ABC Sunshine Coast 90.3FM at 3.50pm this afternoon. Please tune in, or if you miss it, grab a copy of Belinda's new book Wholistic Witchcraft, which covers staying in flow with the seasons of the earth and within yourself www.Wiccid.com.au. https://www.abc.net.au/radio/sunshine/

23.01.2022 Look what came in the post! Hot off the press, Carmen Greentree's new book A Dangerous Pursuit of Happiness. A hardback copy, no less. And aren't hardback copies so much more precious, yes they are. The seriousness of the stiff cover making the pages seem even more delicate in between. I had put this weekend aside to nurture myself and this book will keep me wonderful company. I've never met Carmen in person, but we have become so close over this past year, working togethe...r on the book, which is always a deeper experience than it seems at the outset. Carmen writes: "I have so many amazing feelings about the journey I completed with Alex and her team. I'd been writing and rewriting my book for what felt like forever. I'd get to a certain point and then realise I wanted to change something... so I'd go back to the beginning and start all over again. I kept doing that until Alex kindly told me to stop and actually write it all the way to the end. Then she provided a team who supported me in doing exactly that. Without them, I'd probably still be writing around and around in circles to this day. Alex and her team guided me in every possible way, providing me with information and advice I didn't even know I needed. Their loving, strong encouragement got me to the finish line and I doubt I'd have been able to do it without them. I felt heard, understood and nurtured throughout the process. And yet all the while, the entire team demonstrated professional service at the highest standard I could have hoped for. I'm so proud of the book I ended up with. My memoir has become the masterpiece I always envisioned it as, thanks to the Author Support Services expertise. I'm already looking forward to working with the team on my second book. Thank you so much, girls. Keep on rocking it!

22.01.2022 Our spring newsletter has plenty to read about with marketing ideas for your book and some new releases from our indie authors - https://mailchi.mp/16f546d36572/sept2019-4188626

22.01.2022 A helpful explanation of so much in the world of grammar, all in one bad joke.

22.01.2022 It's wonderful to be able to celebrate with an author. To be there to see the people around them share the special moment when all the hard work comes together, and everyone can appreciate just what went in to creating this book. It's so much more than the writing on the pages. It is a career of learning, hours of rewriting, midnights of worrying, and even a certain amount of swearing. And it's all paid off. Bella, you did it! Last night was everything it should have been. A fun, relaxed time when everyone could celebrate what you have achieved. I'm so proud of you!

21.01.2022 This poem, written by editor and publisher Patricia G Horan just before she passed away at the close of 2020, struck me deeply with it's knowing and it's beauty. "Notes on a Stay in a Hospital Quarantine Cell"

21.01.2022 New year, new logo and business cards. It's only a small thing, but it's fresh and fun and makes me happy! Thanks to our multitalented inhouse designer Sylvie Blair. Yes, she does more than book design!

20.01.2022 A cup of tea on the verandah and some book sharing with Jules O'Neill, who published Emotionally Happy Homes with us a few months ago. It was lovely to finally share the joy of her book, and yes of course, plan the next project! Jules O'Neill Alex Fullerton

19.01.2022 I’m in Adelaide with our author Lara Casanova preparing for the launch of her third book, Loss, love and Lessons. It's being released now at https://www.lifeinthepink.com.au

18.01.2022 Belinda Payne’s book Wholistic Witchcraft is so gorgeous, I can’t stop looking at it. Catherine Joy created the section break pages with hand drawn images from the story of the witchling who we follow throughout the book. The cover and internal design created by Sylvie Blair, our inhouse designer, captured Belinda’s vision for the book and brought it to life. The cover is a paperback but evokes the feel of a leather-bound tome. And inside, every page is scattered with swirls, cats, witches and esoteric images that help the reader immerse themselves into the full experience that is, as the subtitle says, magick for the mind, body and soul. A feast for the senses at www.wiccid.com.au

16.01.2022 Our latest blog looks at how you, the publisher, can ensure your book is available in the places your reader likes to visit. Although we offer a huge distribution network, your book might also find a perfect home somewhere that is not a bookshop, such as a garden centre, a health food store, a gift shop, a tourist information centre or a pet supply store. Our helpful tips will prepare you to think outside the box and step into your role as a publisher! https://authorsupportservices.com/stocking-your-book-with-/

14.01.2022 Congratulations to author Megan Carige, of Happy Day Out, who worked hard to tweak and finesse her manuscript "What, Mr Wilson is Sick" into tip-top shape for competition this year. Well done Megan, what a great end to the year!

11.01.2022 A copy of Marg Gibbs’ book "Conversations with Strangers the art of creativity and connection" appeared on my birthday, and what wonderful timing. As the first birthday without my blood family around, the book fell open to the chapter on loneliness and spoke directly to me with its gifts of connection and creativity. Marg’s poetic way with words, and gentle, dreamy photography captured perfectly the mood of the day, and gave me some nudges to move forward and into the world. Gift yourself or someone you love this latest in our books from Author Support Services. It is filled with the most stunning photography, gentle musings and creative activities to try. 11.01.2022 Another book is born! Lara Casanova of In the PINK has published her THIRD book with us. I received the excited texts from Adelaide this afternoon that the proof copy of Loss, Love and Lessons had arrived. What a wonderful moment to share! Loss, Love and Lessons is a handbook for healing pet loss and grief, and like all Lara's books is filled with love and beauty. Congratulations, Lara, you are amazing! The book will be on sale very soon at https://www.lifeinthepink.com.au/

11.01.2022 Vickie Magic and I have worked together many times over the years, and are now working together on her new book Life By Magic, which is very exciting. So when I wrote an article for the spring edition of her magazine Matters Magazine Sunshine Coast, there are no surprises in what I wrote about. Tips on writing a book, of course!

11.01.2022 Keep your creativity flowing. Write, fast. Write about this. This isolation. That's this month's word. Isolation. Whatever it means to you. Less than 500 words. Why not? There is even a prize. https://queenslandwriters.org.au/rightleftwrite?

11.01.2022 You’ll often see book reviews on the front page of a book or even on the cover. This is great ‘social proof’ that your book is worth a read - it’s much more powerful for others to say your work is good than it is for you to say it yourself. But how do those reviews get there before the book is even published? Our latest blog shows you exactly how to do it https://authorsupportservices.com/printing-reviews-and-tes/

11.01.2022 Belinda Payne's book Wholistic Witchcraft is one of the most beautiful books we have created at Author Support Services. The images on every page are evocative and intricate. The subject matter is fascinating, with spells, rituals and self-love woven throughout. And what better way to explore it all than storytime with Belinda herself! Settle in with your beverage of choice for a feast of the senses. You can find the book at www.wiccid.com.au

09.01.2022 It takes courage to publish a memoir, and some more than others. Carmen Greentree’s story has taken incredible bravery just to survive, but to share it with Carmen’s love and generosity shows a level of healing and selflessness that most of us could not even fathom. A Dangerous Pursuit of Happiness is a story of female pro surfing, of the joys of world travel, of being abducted in India and held against her will for months, raped and abused. But it is also a story of healing,... hope and love of self and humanity. Congratulations Carmen, you are an incredible person and bring so much love to the table of life. The book is available now at www.carmengreentree.com

09.01.2022 This pictorial run sheet of my Self to Shelf Author Workshop in 2013 popped up in my memories today and demonstrates why I never pursued a career in art. The questions though, still unravel the tangle of a book idea into to a book. WHAT are you writing about?... WHY are you writing? WHO is your ideal reader? WHAT do they want to know? WHO are you when you write? HOW will you lay the book out? WHEN will you do it? See more

02.01.2022 Hearing the phone ring on a Friday night and the excitement of an author’s voice as they unwrap the post to find the printed proof of their first book has got to be one of the best parts of my wonderful job. Belinda Payne of Wiccid has spent 18 months creating Wholistic Witchcraft and it’s such a beautiful book to look at, an incredible design created by Bella’s imagination and brought to life by Sylvie, our inhouse designer. Every page is filled with gorgeous images. The boo...k is packed with insights on living in alignment with your mind, body and soul. It was edited by @Tanya Gardner and proofread by @Natasha Higgins. And of course I (Alex Fullerton) was main cheerleader. If you've ever written a book you'll know there will be plenty of celebration at Bella’s place this weekend. And if you haven't written a book yet, believe me, Bella deserves it! I'm so proud of you Bella! Stay tuned for news of pre-launch specials!

01.01.2022 The launch of the spring edition of Matters Magazine Sunshine Coast was a fabulous night out as it always is, a chance to catch up with wonderful people, even under Covid rules. It was especially exciting as I have an article in this edition (check page 64), and Vickie and I are celebrating working on her new book together. You can read some of her fantastic material in this edition, all about using your own superpowers to control your monkey mind!
