21.01.2022 Our family has just read The Thing About Oliver by Deborah Kelly. What a heartfelt story that is perfect for junior readers. It's focus is on non-verbal Autism, and the impact it can have on family life and sibling mental well being. It is a very sensitive story that might just change someone's outlook if they give it a go. https://www.goodreads.com//show/50840038-the-thing-about-o

10.01.2022 The 'after school meltdown' is a common concern for families.

07.01.2022 Autism CRC have just published a landmark report for families, clinicians, researchers and policy makers, which synthesises the best available high-quality evidence about interventions for children on the autism spectrum aged up to 12 years. The report, Interventions for children on the autism spectrum: A synthesis of research evidence, was commissioned by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and produced by an expert team of researchers engaged by Autism CRC. This... report is critical because it provides families and clinicians with the best opportunity to make informed decisions when choosing interventions. The report includes a broad overview of intervention for children on the autism spectrum, including the principles underpinning all interventions, and the rationale behind each category of intervention, such as developmental interventions, behavioural interventions or technology-based interventions. It also provides a comprehensive review of the scientific evidence for the effects of interventions for children on the spectrum, both therapeutic and otherwise. A total of 58 systematic reviews were included in the review of evidence. These drew on data from 1,787 unique studies. To support the release of the report, they have also produced two community summaries and overviews for each intervention category. These are all available on their website: https://www.autismcrc.com.au/

01.01.2022 We value the approach Acceptance and Commitment therapy takes to mental health, and it can be adapted very nicely to work with children, adolescents and adults with ASD. This is a great video explaining the role of anxiety; if it resonates with you, it might be worth exploring if working with an ACT practitioner is an option.
