22.01.2022 Visual schedules assist in the reduction of anxiety and frustration by providing routine and structure to an activity or day. They also support improved quality of life through increased independence. #autismearlystart #asd #visualschedule #earlyintervention #visualsupport #autism #neurodiverse

13.01.2022 If you (like many others)find the concept of the autism spectrum mildly confusing, the graphic below may help. It is called a spectrum because just like there are different colours on a colour wheel, every autistic person has a different level of deficit or ability in a variety of areas. This means that every individual with autism has a one-of-a-kind experience and is uniquely located somewhere on the spectrum.... This isn’t a scale of high or low functioning. People aren’t more or less autistic than another. Peoples skills don’t diminish their support needs. Say no to functioning labels High function Low function
12.01.2022 Sensory items and fidget items belong in hands not boxes. Imagine being told by your boss at work you can only have your sensory item between 10:30am - 10:45am as per the schedule. What if the person next to you is talking so loud and the 3pm slump has hit, the headache is building and you can’t concentrate because they are so loud. However you’re not allowed your AirPods to drown their voice out so you can be your most productive self and concentrate on your work because you... already had your sensory time at 10:30am as per the schedule and now you need to wait until you finish your work to earn your sensory box. Madness! But we see this so often. Sensory time scheduled in. People needing to earn their sensory supports. You would never allow a child with a vision impairment to only have their glasses for certain times of the day. They have them as needed. Sensory supports should be available 24/7. #sensorysupports #fidgettoys #sensoryboxes #sensorytoys #autism #sensoryprocessingdisorder #earlyintervention #autismearlystart
07.01.2022 As parents and carers of Autistic children we spend so much time worrying. We spend so much time advocating, attending meetings and therapy appointments. Don’t forget to schedule in some self care where you can. A hot bath, a cool swim, a glass of wine, a walk on the beach, or a call to a friend. Try once in the next week to do something for you! #aes #autismearlystart #selfcare #neurodiverse #autism #earlyintervention
