13.01.2022 ~OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ~ The Auto Italia Organising Committee has, after very careful consideration and with regret, decided to cancel this years event. Auto Italia is a not for profit organisation that heavily relies on the income it is able to generate annually from ticket sales, entrants fees and sponsorship.... As we foreshadowed recently on social media the cancellation of this years event has become a reality not only as a result of government intercession but more importantly the serious financial impact that will certainly occur due the lack of attendance by both entrants and spectators due the impact of the Covid-19 virus. Auto Italia has considered the possibility of rescheduling this years event to later in 2020. However, we have decided that option is also not financially viable as it would mean the likelihood of having two events occur within a space of six or so months. We are currently working with third-party service providers to refund both entrants and spectators who have made purchases through our website. We are informed the refunds may take some time to process so please be patient with us in this regard. We will also be in contact with our valued sponsors and vendors to make any necessary arrangements regarding refunds. Finally, we certainly appreciate the tremendous support we enjoy from all our supporters and hope you will understand our decision and we look forward to your ongoing support to make Auto Italia 2021 bigger and better than ever.

07.01.2022 Many thanks to everyone for coming and taking part in this years event. We would also like to thank everyone who has provided honest feedback about the event as we endeavor to improve it each year. Last year, in May, we were forced to embark on a search for a new venue as the National Capital Authority, which controls the use of the land around Lake Burley Griffin, declared that there would be no more car shows on the grassed National Land areas. Pialligo Estate was judged ...by the Italian Cars Association, the organizers of Auto Italia, to be the best available option for an event of this scale for 2018. The German Car day in 2017 was held at the site and we did try to learn from the lessons of that smaller event. Clearly there are serious limitations with the traffic flow out of the site past the nurseries along Beltana Road. This is something that the Italian Cars Association and Pialligo Estate will investigate further to see what improvements in traffic control, and the use of an upgraded access road to Beltana Road could make. The area used in recent years, on the lawns of Old Parliament House, provided a lot of passing traffic that will not attend a more isolated event. That said we were still impressed with the spectator crowd that turned up, and there was a greater sense of respect for the cars, even if there wasn't quite the same atmosphere. How much this was due to the inclement weather is currently impossible to judge. Although not a factor in deciding to change venues, as the National Capital Authority made the decision, the change in venue and working with Pialligo Estate, has allowed the Italian Cars Association which is a nonprofit organisation - to change its cost structures. Running Auto Italia at the Old Parliament House costs more than $20,000 per year to provide all the required infrastructure, without considering all of the volunteer effort that goes into the event. For two of the last three years the event ran at a financial loss, which is not sustainable. Some of these increasing costs were as a result of National Capital Authority requirements, such as paying for parking inspectors. It was clear that something needed to change without seriously compromising the character of the event. In any event everyone can be assured the Italian Cars Association Executive will continue to work hard to ensure our event continues to operate in the interests of our entrants and spectators alike as without their support we would not be able to stage our event. If you feel strongly that the character of the event is driven by the venue, please raise this with the National Capital Authority. The Italian Cars Association and the Council of ACT Motor Clubs has already tried several approaches, without success. Submissions from members of the public, especially those from outside of Canberra, may have more effect in allowing the widespread use of National Land. Regards, The Italian Cars Association Executive.
