23.01.2022 Have I told you about ‘weekend haloumi’? I became a vegetarian in 1997. I went to a sleepover and watched ‘Babe’. Something clicked in my head about animals and I’ve never eaten them again. Over the pat few years my autoimmune condition has flared a few times and I have found that by eating a dairy free diet it helps immensely. (It works for me don’t came at me please!)... ANYWAY the issue is I love cheese. Like a lot. So now I’m plant based Monday to Friday but on the weekends I have haloumi. The more I think about it the more I like ‘weekend haloumi’ to be a life motto. Something you love but isn’t the best but cutting it out would make you said so you weigh up the risks and benefits. Try the ‘weekend haloumi’ approach to something in your life which isn’t serving you but you are t ready to say goodbye to...yet. See more

21.01.2022 Take excitement about meeting new people into your every day life and enjoy the show. I love meeting new people. I love hearing people’s stories. I love love love to sit and people watch. I have been blessed with meeting some truly wonderful humans through my work as a nurse. It can be easy to dismiss the ‘annoying’ patients but there is always something to take from a new meeting.... This week on Pause Blog we have a new segment to our show! ‘Autonomic Meets’ Once a month we will post an interview with different nurses. All of them inspiring. All of them dedicated to nursing. This week we meet Jess Stoke-Parish. You may know her already. She is an Assistant Professor of Medincine and an ICU nurse AND more. Check out her insta here @j_stokesparish and her interview on our blog via our bio. See more

20.01.2022 Social capital. AKA making friends and upping the vibe. If you put in a second or two with your fellow coworkers I can’t begin to tell you what a difference that will make to your work enjoyment.... You won’t work every shift with your BFFs. (I’d give my left leg to work every shift with the cherubs in this pic). BUT I do make an effort to get a working friendship with the entire team I work with. I bake cakes for peoples birthday. I offer help when people are drowning. I ask how weekends are and listen to the response. Increase social capital on your ward. Increase your work fulfilment. Trust me. See more

16.01.2022 Today I didn’t love work. The air felt bad when I walked in. The vibe was jittery. Started with a patient with a GCS of 3 and went down hill from there. I tried not to get stuck on the ‘today sucks’ mindset as I know it’s a spiral down if you get into that vortex. So tonight here I am using all my top tricks to #letthatshiftgo and stop my face look like this.... mentally visualising leaving the shift in a bag at the door of the hospital meditation journaling on why I felt off all day writing down what I could have done different listening to music on a better vibration than my current one made a note on doing an in service for all staff about team work called my mum Next time a shift burns salvage something from it and leave it behind. Don’t take into your dreams with you. See more
