25.01.2022 Toyota Landcruiser 80 Series Another windscreen repair done and dusted...! Lead wiping and a cargo window repair yet to be completed. Rene Farrace

24.01.2022 This is why we love coming to work.....

24.01.2022 LX SS Torana LH Rear Quarter Panel - Repair This video illustrates the corrosion repair to the lower rear section of the LH Rear Quarter Panel. The owner provided the near perfect second hand replacement section, which was fitted to the vehicle. However, there was additional panel fabrication on the wheel arch required to complete the repair section.

23.01.2022 LX SS Torana The following video illustrates the sequence of details involved when replacing the hatch back quarter panel. The previous repairer removed the panel section because of panel damage. The replacement quarter panel provided is that of a UC Torana (factory ex-stock item), in exceptional condition. Being somewhat rare to acquire these days, this is all that was available. ... The difference in models were slight, the most obvious being the rear tail-light section. We retained the tail-light socket and fused the quarter panel section. Then we integrated the remaining sections (sil panel, B-Pillar and turret) by fusing the new panel with the old. The replacement quarter panel was still in factory primer and was covered with surface corrosion. Before continuing with the repairs to the C-Pillar section, the surface corrosion was removed and the metal was conditioned. Next the drip rail section was aligned and temporarily attached to ensure the fitting of the external C-Pillar cover panel. Following this, the internal C-Pillar aperture was fabricated and contoured to match the original section. The C-Pillar cover panel was then aligned with the internal aperture and then the finishing end was fabricated to emulate the original design. Note: The most important aspect of this build was ensuring that the metal substrate was prepared and treated in between each stage to mitigate the reoccurrence of corrosion. Rene Farrace

23.01.2022 XY Fairmont Nearing completion, the new quarter panels fit like a glove. Just a little more finesse on the boot gaps, lead wipe the joints and another quality resto good to go. Rene Farrace

23.01.2022 One of the major challenges on this vehicle was the rear turret section. Before we could repair this area we had to repair the structural frame and C-Pillars around this area. This video is part 1 of 2 videos showing the sequence of repairs on the rear turret section. Regards Rene Farrace

22.01.2022 Big thanks to Steve (Combined Towing) for his assistance throughout the year. We highly recommended Steve for a prompt and efficient service.

20.01.2022 Mazda R100 Coupe This is one of those rare vehicles which I feel privileged to have worked on. Thanks Pat! The complexity of the repairs required on both of the lower rear quarter panels has been quite a challenge. This video illustrates the level of detail that weve achieved to maintain the originality of the body profile. ... At Auto Resto we stand by our workmanship by offering a five year warranty against corrosion perforation on our rust repairs. Rene Farrace

20.01.2022 Ford Customline - Bonnet Restoration. Every once in a while we get to show our skills, like tig welding the insert panel in middle of this Customline bonnet. Rene Farrace

20.01.2022 Upon the initial assessment of the vehicle, a preliminary rectification schedule was compiled and the estimated repairs were based on lead-wiping the area. After delivery to the workshop, the level of corrosion damage was found to be more significant with the corrosion penetrating through multiple layers of the windscreen aperture. The second observation noted was that the outer turret skin had separated from the internal support frame. This is clearly visible by the horizon...tal fracture line of the full length of the windscreen aperture. TURRET APERTURE In light of the condition reassessment and scope requirements, a complete new panel section was fabricated to match the original profile. The fabricated panel was then trial fitted for the correct contour and alignment. Note: the multi-layers of corrosion build up beneath the aperture were obstructing the correct alignment of the replacement panel, so the complete lower lip of the aperture was removed. Upon removal of the windscreen aperture section, the internal support frame was found to be weakened by the corrosion. The area was sandblasted to remove the corrosion contaminants and clean the metal surface ready for welding. The panel replacement section was aligned and held in position by clecos and then fully welded. VERTICAL APERTURES Both of the vertical apertures were found to have localised areas of corrosion around the perimeter of the (pillar trim) fixing holes. The full lengths of both apertures were sandblasted to remove all of the corrosion contaminants. CONCLUSION The remediation of the corroded turret section has been completed above the standard of the quoted repairs. The requirements have resulted in time/cost variations which we have absorb to preserve the integrity of our fixed price guarantee. Rene Farrace www.autoresto.com.au

15.01.2022 This vehicle will be on display at Shannons Classic Car Show 24th of March 2019. Come and view our workmanship firsthand and say gday! LX SS Torana - Rear Tail-Lights Rectification During the vehicle assessment it was noted that the LH Rear Quarter Panel (Tail-light Socket) had damage which someone had attempted to repair. At a closer inspection it was also found to have corrosion damage along the upper section of the tail-light socket. It was decided that the entire sectio...n above the tail-light and LHS quarter panel end would be fabricated as one complete replacement panel. The tailgate was then fitted to the vehicle and aligned to the aperture. The replacement section was then trial fitted to the body and the area was marked for removal. The damage section was removed and the replacement panel was aligned to provide a seamless integration. During the integration of the replacement section, the gap between the tail-light and the body socket was noted to be excessively large (3/16th by memory) and so it also was corrected to provide symmetry and unity. The upper section of the Right Hand Side (RHS) tail-light socket was found to have corrosion damage and the gap between the hatch/beaver panel tapered to a minimum. Again the hatch door gap misalignment was the direct result of the excessively enlarged tail-light socket. This was corrected by separating the body from the tail-light socket and tapering the panel to achieve a uniform gap. After achieving the desired gap, a replacement panel was fabricated to duplicate the original section and fused into place. The final result of the repairs has corrected the tail-light misalignment and provided a unified gap between the beaver and the hatch door. Rene Farrace

14.01.2022 At Auto Resto, our project work is predominately motor vehicle restoration and corrosion repairs. This video illustrates the sequence of rust repairs conducted on the 1965 VW Beetle Convertible. The initial concerns were that the vehicles right hand side (RHS) door was not opening or closing efficiently. We quickly identified that the RHS door was sagging due to substandard corrosion repairs at the top and bottom hinge areas. Upon removal of the RHS door, the cosmetic repai...rs fell out which further exposed the complexity of the corrosion issue. This repair involved exploring beyond the surface and into the hidden structure, removing multiple layers before restoring the original structure. Each layer removed was either reconditioned or replaced during the reconstruction process. At Auto Resto, we warranty our corrosion repairs for a period up to 10 years. With advance methodologies and technologies in corrosion mitigation, we offer more than just rust repairs.

12.01.2022 Ford XY Fairmont Internal wheel arch sections fabricated to fit @ Auto Resto.

12.01.2022 Mazda RX7 The owner of this Mazda RX7 was concerned that the structural integrity of the vehicles A-pillars were being compromised by corrosion damage. The visible corrosion at the upper section of the A-pillars (top door hinges), were causing the doors to sag and the misalignment making them difficult to close unless supported.... The difficulty in evaluating this type of issue is that the extent of the damage is not completely exposed until the all parts and panels are removed and the internal structure is exposed. Regards Rene Farrace

08.01.2022 LX SS Torana LHR C-Pillar Restoration This video illustrates the restoration process of the left hand rear (LHR) C-Pillar. ... As you will see the corrosion damage had penetrated extensively throughout the C-Pillar structure. The process involved removing each layer until we found a solid base to start the repairs. Each section was individually fabricated and fuse welded to achieve a seamless integration. The only exception was the external C-Pillar cover panel which was purchased by the owner. However, this panel was short and required finishing to complete the interface joint between the C-Pillar and quarter panel. The finished product is aesthetically the same finish as it was from original.

07.01.2022 This video is part 2 of the turret repair completed on the LX SS Torana coupe. The amount of labour invested in the turret repair was extrordinary, but the result is near perfection. This vehicle has come a long way from the wreck that was, and from many opinions unrepairable. Challenge accepted! Regards Rene Farrace

03.01.2022 HR Sedan A little more progress on the HR Sedan rear door frames. The RH rear door frame proving to be a challenge to say the least. Challenge accepted! Rene Farrace

03.01.2022 LX SS Torana RHS Door Frame (Resto) When fitting the RHS Door we noticed that there was a crack at the lower front section of the door frame. The owner was happy for the frame to be welded (as any general repairer would do) and that would have been it. But curiosity got the better of me and if I hadnt have opened it up to investigate it would have cracked again after it was finished and painted. This section of the door frame had been repaired before. The previous repairer... had cut into the internal door frame while attempting to repair the bailey channel fixing point. After removing the external panel section of the door frame, it was clear that there were two incisions in the internal frame section. The incisions in the internal frame caused the door frame to flex excessively and the external skin fracture because of this. The internal frame was repaired and the external skin was fabricated and fuse welded to complete the repair. The importance of this example is to investigate the cause and not to rush into repairing the problem.

02.01.2022 Thanks John (NSW), Your panel is good to go! Regards Rene
