22.01.2022 AUDI Q5: The Audi Q5 is a luxury SUV released back in 2009 to compete with the BMW X3 and the Mercedes GLC. Audi has refined the styling over the years and the latest (2020) model still has similar features to the original. Much like Porsche, Audi follows the same ‘refinement rather than revolution’ approach to its design ethos. This has allowed the Audi Q5 to take incremental steps of improvement and become the powerhouse SUV that it is today. The Q5 mid-size SUV is the s...econd best selling Audi model in Australia (2019 data) and it competes favourably on price and standard equipment with other luxury SUV models from BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen. The Audi Q5 is often praised for its high end and well thought out interior, as well as the brilliant Quattro 4WD system. There are a number of different Petrol and Diesel model variants as well as the high performance SQ5 which is powered by a V6 Turbo engine. Common issues with the Audi Q5: Overall the Audi Q5 is a reliable SUV and should remain a practical and fun to drive car for many years if serviced regularly. Here are some common issues that you may experience if you own an Audi Q5, especially in older models. Excessive oil consumption: All cars consume oil, and it’s common to have to keep oil levels optimal to reduce maintenance issues with your engine. You will notice a warning light turn on to ‘check oil’ from time to time. If you are noticing this warning more often than usual then there may be a leak or other issue causing oil to be used up faster than it should. Contact us at Auto Studio in Adelaide and we can check your Audi Q5 oil issues and give you peace of mind. Timing chain replacement: Generally the timing chain on an Audi Q5 should last over 150,000km however they have been known to require replacement sooner. If they need to be repaired, you might hear a rattle when starting the engine (or when the car is idle) and the check engine light should also go on. It’s extremely important to have a quality Audi repairer fix this issue as if left unattended it could cause bigger issues that will be even more expensive to fix. DSG transmission issues: If your Q5 has a DSG gearbox, then you will likely experience some issues as the KM’s start to build up. Some symptoms include a loss of power or a ‘shake’ when accelerating. Whether you’re having these issues or not, the team at Auto Studio can have a look at your Audi Q5 transmission to ensure it’s operating as expected.

15.01.2022 BMW X3: The BMW X3 is a mid-sized luxury SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) that first hit Adelaide shores back in 2003. It’s based on the same platform as the BMW 5 series, and comes in both front wheel drive (sDrive) and all wheel drive (xDrive). BMW created the X3 to compete with the Mercedes GLK (now called the GLC). In terms of size and price position, the BMW X3 sits above the smaller X1 and X2, and under the X5, X6, X7 and X8.... What do the numbers mean after the ‘X’ in BMW SUV models? BMW uses odd and even numbers to differentiate between two styling variations. Odd numbers X1, X3, X5 and X7 are models with more traditional SUV shapes, meaning they’re more ‘boxy’ and staunch. Even numbers X2, X4, X6 and X8 are all similar in specifications and interior styling to their odd number siblings, however they feature more sporty coupé styling. Essentially the boot space is a little smaller as the roof curve comes down to the tail as opposed to the more square boot as evident in the even numbered models. The even numbered models are usually a little more expensive. What are some service issues that might present in a BMW X3? As an expert and experienced BMW X3 repair and service centre in Adelaide, our experienced team have serviced thousands of vehicles and would love to assist with any issues you might be having. Here are some common faults you might encounter if you own a BMW X3. BMW X3 rattles and noise: These issues are very common and although they’re likely not dangerous, they can be super annoying! Are you experiencing a rattling noise from the sunroof, doors or windows? There might be a problem with a seal and that’s something we can repair easily for you. If there’s an engine noise, this may be caused by a problem with the timing chain and it’s best to get this repaired ASAP as failure to service may result in severe damage and pose a safety issue. Engine oil leaking: Not just a problem with the BMW X3, leaking engines is a common issue in all cars and is commonly caused by valve covers deteriorating from normal wear-and-tear. In the hot Adelaide summer, the extreme heat can cause the plastic valve covers to crack, contributing to the leak. If you’ve exceeded 120,000km then engine leaks are more evident. Coolant oil leaking: If your BMW X3 is overheating, you’ll likely notice coolant leaking from your engine / radiator. This issue can be costly to repair and cause significant damage to the engine. Please contact us if you notice any coolant leaks! Overall, the BMW X3 is a reliable car and the issues listed above are common on other similar vehicles such as the Audi Q5 or Mercedes-Benz GLC. Preventative maintenance of your vehicle is always the best solution and we’d love to talk to you to help reduce costly repairs due to lack of regular service.

13.01.2022 BMW: 3 Series The BMW 3 series is a compact executive vehicle that has been getting produced since 1975, with many generations having been released since the initial launch. The series began with only a 2-door coupe, but quickly expanded to include a large range of convertibles, sedans and hatchbacks with a multitude of door varieties. Today you won’t find a 3 series convertible or coupe though, as these models were further developed and became the basis of the BMW 4 series. ...The 3 Series is one of BMW’s best sellers, available in petrol and diesel, and is accountable for approximately 30% of BMW’s car sales. The main competitors for the 3 Series include the Audi A4 and the Mercedes Benz C-Class. Common Issues: Overall the 3 series is an extremely popular car, and with regular maintenance and servicing can be an enjoyable luxury car, with many years of reliable driving. But here are some of the more common problems to look out for with the BMW 3 series. Crankshaft Sensor: It is common in some 2018 models to have problems with the crankshaft sensor, forcing the vehicle to enable an emergency reduced power mode. Some of the signs for this can include an illuminated check engine light, a lack of power, stalling, spluttering or misfiring. If you are experiencing any of these issues in your car, then book in a service at Auto Studio in Adelaide. Power Steering: In models up until 2015, it is not uncommon for the power steering pump to fail. Signs that there could be an issue with your power steering pump include a heavy feeling when driving or it is hard to turn, excessive vibrations or scraping feeling on the tyres or steering column. The experienced mechanics at Auto Studio can easily assist with a full power steering check, diagnosing any issues and replace your power steering pump if needed. Fuel Pump: Issues with the 3 series fuel pump are more common in models produced in 2013 and 2014. Problems with the fuel pump can cause major performance issues, and result in misfires, engine splutters, loss of power, trouble starting and stalling. If you are experiencing any of these problems, then you may need to get your fuel pump inspected. Auto Studio can check your fuel system, diagnose any issues and repair any problems with your vehicle. No Spare Tyre: While this is not necessarily an issue, it is something to be aware of. The BMX 3 series does not have a spare wheel, or designated space to carry a spare and are equip with run-flat tyres. As the name suggests, these tyres are designed to run when flat, therefore eliminating the need to carry a spare but they do have some limitations. When driving with a flat tyre, you cannot exceed a speed of 80km, or travel a distance further than 80km. This can of course become problematic for long distance travel.

Electric connections within the engine may have trouble operating which can cause the car to stop working. Driving sensors: A common fault in Mercedes C-Class vehicles is due to issues with the active driving sensors. This can cause vibration that affects driving stability. Sensor replacement is often the best solution. Steering: Issues with Mercedes-Benz C-Class power steering pump and fluid lines can present in a leak. The parts may need replacement please talk to the team at Auto Studio if you have this issue as it can be dangerous. Hoses: If you notice less power from the accelerator to the engine, then broken or badly worn air hoses may be the issue.
