19.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS SC 485 Temporary Graduate Visa - secondary/primary applicant update: After representation by the MIA to the Department on the issue of previous secondary SC 485 visa holders being eligible to apply for a SC 485 as a primary applicant, the MIA received clarification just as MIA Notice 3 was sent today.... The Department has informed the MIA that: ... the same arrangement continues to apply for family members (secondary applicants) of Subclass 485 visa holders. A person who previously held a Subclass 485 visa as a secondary visa holder is not excluded from applying for, or being granted, another Subclass 485 visa as the primary applicant. The Department will clarify this further on its website shortly. Sources: Migration Institute of Australia

17.01.2022 Great news for GLOBAL TALENT VISA. The federal government has expanded the scope of Australia’s fledgling permanent migration scheme for highly-skilled technologists after tripling the program’s intake for this financial year. The change is contained in new direction for the two feeder visas used for the ‘Global Talent Independent’ (GTI) program subclass 858 and subclass 124 quietly issued last month.... The direction (direction 89) replaces an earlier one outlining the target sectors for the GTI program when it was first launched in November 2019 to attract tech talent from across the globe.

16.01.2022 PTE English test results remain valid The recent release of the score concordance research from PTE Academic and IELTS has caused some confusion with applicants and that some may believe that PTE scores have changed in respect to migration applications. Clients are advised that until a new legislative instrument is released changing the scores, the current scores will remain in force.... There is NO INDICATION that Department is considering changing the current English language legislation or has even considered the concordance report. PTE scores remain valid and reliable. There have been no changes to the Australia Department of Home Affairs English test score requirements for visas. If the scores were to be changed at some future date, as is usual, we would not expect the changes to be applied retrospectively to applications lodged prior to any changes. Client can continue to use their clients PTE English language results as usual. Source: Migration Institute of Australia
