23.01.2022 IMPORTANT MEMBER AND VISITOR UPDATE: This evening Avalon Beach SLSC was notified by NSW Health that ABSLSC will be named in a media release by the NSW Ministry of Health. The Northern Sydney Public Health Unit has assessed the risk to staff and customers as a low risk (casual contacts). Our Club was closed yesterday and has just undergone an extensive and deep clean. We have decided that in the best interests of our community and members that we will continue to remain clo...sed until further notice. Emergency callout team members will have access to vital surf rescue equipment only. Avalon Beach SLSC has been operating with a vigorous Covidsafe plan and a Covid Marshall has been present during public bar opening times to ensure compliance with social distancing and current health regulations. We will continue to take advice from NSW Health and will update members and guests via our website and social media pages. 21.01.2022 This weekend marks the 75th Anniversary of the end of WW2 with Victory in the Pacific. Avalon Beach SLSC members who served in WW2 are commemorated on the Honour Roll in the Hall of Fame. Spare a moment on VP Day 15 August to reflect on the sacrifices made between 1939 - the start of the war in Europe - and the end of the war in the Pacific with the unconditional surrender of Japan on 14 August 1945.... Lest we forget.

17.01.2022 Our 95th Annual General Meeting was held on Sunday - Covidsafe! The 2019-20 Annual Report presented at the AGM encapsulates an extraordinary season. The report showcases the diversity of our Club as well as our community spirit and the many volunteers who contribute to keeping Avalon Beach safe. Thank you first and foremost to all of our members for your spirit and community mindedness - you are the heart and soul of our Club and we can't thank you enough for all that you... do. Congratulations Adam Paddington, Alec Finkeldey, Ant Hearne, James Doherty, Jonathan Mealor, Laura Baieri, Naomi Richardson, Nick Bath, Ryan McDonald, Sam Stoddard, Sean McCormack, Sonia Holtheur, Stuart Minnock and Tara Neasmith who along with December squad members Sean Cowan and Margit Jeppesen blitzed it!! Thanks to our highly skilled trainers Steve Broderick and Steve Early and newest trainers Charlotte Broderick and Rosemary Morgan-Smith. Thank you to each of you for the role you play. 10.01.2022 Thanks to a NSW Government grant we are upgrading our hardworking Meeting Room furniture. Up for grabs is a solid wooden table and 12 chairs. All are fit for purpose. So many amazing businesses jumped at the chance to help us without question, to raise money for the 2021 Nipper Program & Solar Project following the cancellation of the beloved McGrath Pittwater Carols at the Beach. 10.01.2022 Keen to learn the skills to save a life and join a great team of volunteers to help keep Avalon beach goers safe? Our BRONZE MEDALLION Course starts 18 October 2020. This year, thanks to SLSNSW's Covid Grant we are able to offer this course for FREE - a saving of $190*. The Bronze Medallion is the core award to be a surf lifesaver in Australia. The (approx) 8 week course provides participants with the skills and knowledge of patrolling, including CPR and first aid, rescue... techniques, emergency care and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations. Duration: Approximately 8 weeks with 2 weekly sessions typically held each Sunday 11.00am 1.00pm (normally at Avalon Beach) and either Tuesday or Wednesday evening 7.00pm 9.00pm (at the Club). Pre-requisites: minimum of 15 years of age on the date of assessment and completion of an unaided swim (goggles/masks permitted) of 400 mtrs in 9 minutes or less. Club membership fee $80 applies. 06.01.2022 In near perfect conditions at the beach today the last of our SRC squad passed their course with flying colours. These kids started their SRC back in October 2019 and due to extreme weather events delaying assessment, followed by the suspension of all training and assessments due to COVID-19, were the last in the intial group to be assessed. Congratulations Holly Arnold, Leila Austin, Koby Bujak Upton, Charlotte Crighton, Will Newman, Frankie Small, Hannah Stephenson, Zoe Warrener, Grace Whalley and Byron Wilson. You did it! A special shout out to our Club trainers Dave Roberts, Christian Trinder and Darren Warrener who supported this squad for 13 months!! You guys are the best. Absolutely awesome effort.

The first was the 50th season since the first IRB rescue that took place... at Avalon Beach (2 Nov 1969) thanks to pioneer Warren Mitchell. The IRB changed the way we do rescues forever! The second was celebrating 40 years since women were officially allowed to train for and complete their Bronze Medallion (1 July 1980).
