25.01.2022 TODAY (Grand Final Eve) we picked up our key to our 5th House for Avalon Homes for the Homeless! Words cannot describe how excited we are! This is the only the beginning of our mission to provide hope, stability and support for the most vulnerable members in our community through the provision of a home and the ongoing tailored support for the residents from Avalon volunteers and their partners. (Go Tiges!!) If you would like to donate and help make a difference, click through here: https://www.avaloncentre.org.au/ways-to-help/donate/

24.01.2022 Today people around the world recognise #WorldHomelessDay to raise awareness of the needs of people experiencing homelessness and to provide opportunities to help change lives. 24.01.2022 Makeover day is resuming tomorrow 6th July (the first Monday of the month), Ian and Francis were so looking forward to Makeover day that they had a rehearsal last Monday, with Avalon volunteer Sam, picking up the clippers to oblige. Makeover day provides an opportunity for people to have a haircut, choose a new set of clothing, and have their makeup or nails done. It is open to everyone at Drop-In day at Avalon https://www.avaloncentre.org.au/what-we-do/avalon-drop-in/

23.01.2022 This week is Homelessness Week! (2nd-8th August). Homelessness is a complex problem with many causes, including health, economic, and safety reasons and sometimes even a combination of several different causes. Avalon Centre's commitment to end rough sleeping includes our Homes for the Homeless initiative. Using the 'Housing First' model developed as a response to chronic homelessness, our mission is to reduce the number of homeless on the streets and to enable our reside...nts to recover control over their lives and develop a sense of self-respect and belief You can help us work together, to help those that need it most: https://www.avaloncentre.org.au/ways-to-help/donate/ #HomelessnessWeek2020 #HW2020 #EverybodyNeedsAHome #avaloncentre #homesforthehomeless

20.01.2022 "If you are homeless you can't go out and look for a job, you can't stay in education, your kids can't participate properly in school and everyone's health suffers when they experience homelessness" - Everybody's Home Campaign leader Kate Colvin. Avalon is helping by aiming to provide affordable homes with ongoing tailored support for the homeless through our "Homes for the Homeless" initiative. 12.01.2022 Imagine being told to "Stay Home", but you simply don't have one. This is the stark reality that many face in the midst of a global health pandemic. Dr Steven Roberts, Associate Professor of Sociology at Monash University cites the example of Finland, which as of now is the only European country where homelessness is falling after implementing a 'Housing First' policy 11 years ago to mandate secure housing. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3gxVq8j Avalon Homes For The Homeles...s initiative is based on the Housing first Model, enabling those who have fallen through the cracks to regain control over their lives. 10.01.2022 About 2,000 homeless people are living in hotel accommodation in Melbourne at the moment. Avalon has been visiting some of these hotels to offer our services of clothing, shoes and toiletries. During tough times like these, it is more important than ever to reach out to those that are in need We anticipate that the need for our services will radically increase over the next year. The volunteers at Avalon will be prepared and do what we can to ease the pressure inflicted on the community!

05.01.2022 Today is R U OK Day! Here at Avalon we believe a conversation could change a life. When we ask "R U OK?" we can help someone open up and find pathways to support before they’re in crisis. By reaching out to someone you think might be struggling, you can show them they're supported and encourage them to access help if it's needed! #RUOKDAY #thereismoretosay #RUOK

05.01.2022 Francis celebrated his birthday at Avalon yesterday. As he cut the cake his wish was a 2020 Premiership for the mighty Tigers! Happy Birthday to someone who has been attending Avalon for over 30 years! A gentle, caring, happy man who deserves his wish to come true!

05.01.2022 With everyone rushing to book appointments with their closest hairdressers since restrictions have eased, safe to say we all can appreciate a good haircut and freshen up! These were photos taken (pre-covid of course) of our monthly "Makeover Days" when a trained hairdresser comes along to offer free haircuts to anyone who may need one! Because we all deserve to feel our best and look our best! Tag someone below who you think may be in need of a haircut! 03.01.2022 10 years ago Brendon Gale, the Richmond football club's President, made a plan, that the Tigers would have 3 premierships by 2020 His vision became a reality last night!! Avalon also had a vision - Avalon Homes for the Homeless would have six homes within three years. Brendon was laughed and scoffed at, we were also laughed and scoffed at! Avalon’s goal has not been reached yet, but with 3 months to go .....who knows? The 6th house might become a reality, just as Richmond’s third flag in 10 years became a reality! Brendon achieved the seemingly impossible, raising Richmond from a lowly club to be the best in the land. We too aspire to achieve a seemingly impossible goal with the help from ... who knows... will you be that person to help us???

03.01.2022 Another day, another property purchased for Avalon Homes for the Homeless! Number 5 is a 3 bedroom home for a family. More details to follow soon, make sure to stay tuned!
