21.01.2022 Melbourne - join Kane Alexander at FINI in Cremorne this Thursday 1 June, 6pm, for the opening event of Transitory. Featuring delicious drinks by Four Pillars Distillery! Following the recent exhibition Eyre at Jardan Furniture, Alexanders new works have been captured in the countryside of the South Island of New Zealand. Expression is evoked in the works by the unpredictable nature of the equipment used. The positions of the exposures are only estimated, as is the rewi...nding of the film, creating feelings of looking through an ethereal eye at the humbling landscapes. The unique angle of these works is that they allow the purchaser to decide, based on their ideal perception, to crop the work in width and choose the scale. This ultimately means that all nine editions of each work may end up completely individual through the collaboration of the viewer and the artist. FINI are renowned for their frames and have worked with many artists over many years in their spectacular exhibition space, which has been more recently recognised for high-profile exhibitions. 15.01.2022 Monday 1 May 2017 marked twenty years since Tasmania became the last state in Australia to decriminalize homosexuality. The anniversary has been commemorated with a national Avant Card campaign, created by Richard Hale, asking Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to allow Federal Liberals a free vote on marriage equality. The card features an illustration by Tasmanian cartoonist Christopher Downes, with the words The sky didnt fall in then and it wont now. The card will be dis...tributed to Avant Card displays across Australia later this month, and marriage equality supporters are encouraged to take a photo holding the card up against the sky, and post it on social media with the hashtag #TheSkyWontFallMalcolm, before mailing the card to the Prime Minister. 13.01.2022 #SameLoveSameRules On 19th May, the Women's Centre for Health Matters launched a campaign aimed at raising awareness in the LGBTIQ community about family and do...mestic violence. The need for the campaign arose from research which the Centre conducted in late 2015, where this issue was explored in the ACT. It identified gaps in local knowledge and understanding, with many of the local respondents identifying that they were less likely to identify domestic and family violence in their relationships. The overall campaign comprises 5 images on posters, each of which shows a different local real and recognisable couple, and which use the slogan Same Love. Same Rules! The images are available to share online, posters are available for display and the Avant Card will be available in cafes and public venues from late May. The campaign also encourages the LGBTIQ community to find out more about domestic and family violence by directing them to more information on a website www.helpstopdv.org.au The result is a positive campaign which shows local loving and diverse couples in the ACT but which reminds the LGBTIQ community that domestic and family violence can happen in their relationships and that there are services which can help. 02.01.2022 AVANT CARD IS CLOSING Avant Card, established in 1992 and Australias first free postcard advertising company, will close its doors at the end of July 2017. Although the product offerings were expanded beyond the classic postcard, the combination of the rise of digital advertising, funding cuts to the arts (the companys number one client base), reduced marketing budgets in all sectors, and a very competitive media environment, has resulted in the business no longer being fin...ancially sustainable. Ground-breaking in the early 1990s, innovative, fun, unique, informative, educational, quirky, mysterious and beautiful Avant Card was a tangible out-of-home medium that was incredibly popular with people of all ages. Over 25 years, the company produced more than 20,000 campaigns, and distributed more than 300 million postcards. The very last card to be issued will be card number 20850 Elvis has left the building. From the Avant Card founder and Managing Director, Pat Mackle: It is with sadness, tinged with immense pride, that the time has come for the very last Avant Card to grace our displays. Who would have thought that 25 years ago, as an unemployed 28-year-old, we could have come this far, placing a postcard a day into the hands of delighted people. All thanks to everyone who ever believed in the productthe humble postcard. I wish to pass on my heartfelt thanks for all the clients that also believed in me, for all the many staff over the years that have been by my side and given a piece of themselves to the business, through the good times, the fun times and the tough times. Although we will be gone, I hope some postcards will be treasured and live on. Dear Avant Card, Thanks so much for being my best friend, for giving me a great life, for introducing me to so many amazing people, for allowing me the privilege of giving back to society and for being part of so many peoples lives. I have loved every moment. Yours sincerely, Pat Mackle AVANT CARD 1992 2017
