23.01.2022 Drama Update With Mr Spencer In drama recently, the children have been looking at scripted work. After a lot of improvised drama work leading up to this, we have been learning about how to read and follow stage directions. Character development has also been a focus. Children are continuing to learn how to use our body, our voice and our mannerisms to engage an audience and sustain a character. Props have been used where needed to add to our character and create meaning. ... There has also been some fun mask work with PP children. When we can’t speak, we need to learn how to use our body and movement to portray a character. The children have been very engaged in drama lessons so far. We have many talented performers among us! 22.01.2022 You Can Do It: Getting Along Students in Year 3, T7, have been learning how to think first before you act, which is a very important life skill for all of us. One aspect of this is learning how to accept everyone, even if they are a little different. Celebrating uniqueness and diversity is important in life. As a part of YCDI, we also learn that following the rules is one of the things which help us get along with each other. Thanks to the amazing children and Mrs Leak in T7 for sharing their work.

18.01.2022 Music Count Us In A reminder that tomorrow is Music Count Us In Day. Since 2012 we have participated in this Australia wide simultaneous singing event. This is a fantastic event to celebrate Music, communal singing and also encourages children to write music and perform together. Over 600 000 students will be participating along with us. We will be congregating all of the P-6 students at 10:30am on the school oval tomorrow. We would love to invite all parents and guardians to come and stand around the edge of the school oval and hear us sing this year's song. We all love an audience... and we have been working hard for a long time to learn the song.

09.01.2022 CHRISTMAS CHOIR-TOMORROW (Wednesday) Dear Parents/Carers, As we have done each year since the school opened, we will be performing as a choir at a local Christmas Carols event. This will be the Ellenbrook Christmas Festival, held on Saturday, 12 December. This year, students from Year Two-Six are invited to participate in this exciting opportunity. Our performance time is not yet confirmed but is likely to be late in the afternoon.... As we have done in the past, we will be conducting rehearsals before school on Wednesday mornings from 8:00-8.30am. We will begin these rehearsals on Wednesday, 11 November, in the Music Room. Students will need to enter through the school office and will be released to go to their classrooms at 8.30am. This timeline allows us to complete sufficient rehearsals to learn the songs for the event. Last year we had over 60 children in our mega-choir performing a variety of songs, so I am looking forward to having an amazing group once again. It is an expectation that students attend all rehearsals, which will enable us to be as prepared as possible in the numerous song items we will be performing. We will also deliver a performance at the end of year Book Awards Assembly, in Week 10. If you have any further questions, please feel free to come and have a chat (Monday-Thursday are my work days) or email me any time. [email protected] Kind regards Chris Spencer Performing Arts Specialist

06.01.2022 You Can Do It As a whole school, we have been implementing the You Can Do It program. This program helps children develop 5 keys, or positive attitudes and social-emotional skills. These are resilience, confidence, persistence, organisation and getting along. We now have a physical version of these keys! In partnership with Ellenbrook Secondary College, we have three sets to display around our school. The year 7 Design and Technologies students from ESC, along with Ms Shaloni Naik used their skills to make our amazing keys. Some of our Year 6 children from last year assisted in this project, which is fantastic. We would like to thank them very much for their hard work in creating these keys for us! We hope you will enjoy seeing them around our school very soon.

06.01.2022 As a part of our new outdoor classroom development project, we are looking to include an amphitheatre. This will support students with a number of outcomes, including those in performing arts, as well as other teaching and learning and recreational opportunities. A working committee will be formed to guide the planning and construction of this project. We are looking for interested community members from within our school who are able to have input into the final structure. ... This could include landscapers, limestone construction workers and others simply willing to pick up a shovel and help out. I am looking for interested parents or community members to provide valuable input and resources to assist with this. If you have an interest in this project, or have any contacts that may be useful, please email me - [email protected]. Thank you Chris Spencer PERFORMING ARTS SPECIALIST TEACHER
