25.01.2022 A reminder that our Athletics Carnival is planned for tomorrow and all scheduled classes and academies are suspended for the day. We look forward to seeing if Quenda can reclaim their crown or if Tammar will take the clean sweep for 2020. Perhaps Umbrina or Curlew will be victorious. Let the games begin....



25.01.2022 Year 7 & 8 Wellness classes have been having lots of fun with their team building games over the last few weeks. Students have been doing lots of building and creating; marshmallow towers, cup stacking, mind fields and spider webs. They have been focusing on their collaborative and communication skills and will start to look at resilience and coping skills over the next few weeks.

24.01.2022 Aveley Secondary College is pleased to introduce Rebecca Gipson, our new Program Coordinator in the Education Support Hub. My name is Rebecca Gipson and I am thrilled to be joining Aveley Secondary College in the Education Support Hub as a Program Coordinator. I have had an extensive teaching career in Education Support schools and centres. The last 18 years I worked at Dianella Secondary College Education Support Centre as a teacher and administrator. I have a particular int...erest in person-centred planning and working with senior school students and their families to develop meaningful and achievable transition pathways from school to adult life. 24.01.2022 Students have been working very hard in our Visual Art and Media learning areas and will be showcasing some of their work in an exhibition as part of the Arts Festival on Tuesday 15 December. The exhibition is free and no tickets are required. The exhibition is open from 3 pm until 4.30 pm in the foyer of the new Performing Arts building, we look forward to seeing you there. Just a reminder that tickets are still available for the 5 pm Arts Festival performance. 23.01.2022 Bunnings Warehouse has generously donated 30 DIY woodwork tool boxes for our students to build. Their strong commitment to community involvement has resulted in some wonderful educational opportunities for our Education Support students who enjoyed working with hammers and nails to build the boxes. We wish to thank Bunnings Warehouse for their generous donation and a special thank you to our local and friendly Bunnings Education officer Tez Harmer.

23.01.2022 We are delighted to start Term 3 off with the creation of ceramic tiles with our Year 7 students. Their tiles have been inspired by the work of ceramic artist Courtney Mattison, she creates her art as a way of drawing peoples attention to the protection of our planet and oceans, which our students have really engaged with. We cant wait to see all of the tiles finished and displayed together.

23.01.2022 Aveley Secondary College would like to welcome Brooke Geary to our Corporate Services team, Brooke will be joining us in Student Services reception and is a warm friendly face to greet our students that may be unwell or in need or support. Hi my name is Brooke, I am pleased to be joining Aveley Secondary College in Student Services. I have recently moved home to Perth from living in the Pilbara where I worked as a School and Attendance Officer at a Baynton West Primary School. Since being back in Perth I have worked at a number of High Schools covering various support roles. Prior to working within Schools, I have 10+ years working within the Insurance Industry. I am looking forward to interacting with the students who visit our Student Services Office.



22.01.2022 Aveley Secondary College is pleased to welcome Jordan Day-Perkins to our Education Support Team. Jordan is a wonderful addition to our teaching staff. Hi everyone, my name is Jordan Day-Perkins. I am super excited to be working as an Education Support Teacher at the Education Support Hub (ESH) at Aveley Secondary College. I recently completed my Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) at the Australian Catholic University and have also completed a Bachelor of Science... (Psychological Science) at the University of Western Australia. Whilst studying my Master of Teaching, I worked as an Education Assistant across various school settings, including here at Aveley. I have just completed a terms contract teaching at Calingiri Primary School in the Wheatbelt and am looking forward to working as an Education Support Teacher at Aveley Secondary College. I am a passionate and dedicated teacher who is committed to supporting students with special needs to achieve meaningful goals. 21.01.2022 This week select students and parents in years 7,8 and 9 attended an information session about the new ASC Sports Elite Pilot Program - SEP. A pilot program will take place in Semester 2 this year with the launch of the 2021 Sports Elite Program to officially commence next term. Head of Health and Physical Education Mr Daniells provided parents with a tour of the Sports Hall and Mr Wheeler - SEP teacher showed parents the amazing new fitness suite. Students are keen to get started and are looking forward to the semester ahead. Information in regards to the 2021 Sport Elite Program will be sent out to all parents next term.

21.01.2022 Physical Education classes have been busy preparing for the upcoming Athletics Carnival this term. A few classes were also lucky enough to have a visit from Rebecca at Athletics WA. She ran our Year 7s & 8s through a training session to help perfect their technique in Shot Put, Sprints and Triple Jump. More information for the upcoming Athletics Carnival in Week 8, will be emailed home soon.

21.01.2022 Just a reminder, the enrolment deadline for Year 7 2021 students to attend the orientation is Monday 9 November 2020. Students who enrol after this date will not be able to attend the orientation day.

21.01.2022 In Printmaking, our Year 9 Students have drawn inspiration from tarot cards and the work of artist Bryn Perrott. They have engaged with drawing, painting and printing to create a series of Lino prints using both one colour and two colour reduction techniques. Im sure you can agree their hard work is paying off with these fantastic outcomes.



21.01.2022 After their wonderful musical performance for International Day of People with Disability our Education Support students were treated to a book reading at Ellenbrook Library. Jessica Shaw, MLA, read Naomi's World a book written by Naomi Lake, an ambassador for Down Syndrome WA. Naomi describes the writing process as "the ideas start in my brain but I write from the heart, then it travels down my arm and flows out through my hand." Zac's Game Plan, written by Ewan Fowles, an ...author with cerebral palsy, was also read to our students who were lucky enough to meet him afterwards. Ewan is passionate about bridging the social gap between those with disabilities and those without. Special thanks to Carers WA for the donation of two copies of the books for our Library and Education Support Hub. Thank you also to Mission Australia and the City of Swan.

20.01.2022 Introducing Jesse Turner, another outstanding new talent who will be joining us next year. Jesse's specific skills and experience will be fantastic additions for our football teams and sports elite program. We are very pleased to have him join our PE team. Hi Everyone, I am very excited and eager to be joining Aveley Secondary College in the Health and Physical Education Department in 2021. I am a determined and passionate professional who loves to help students achieve the... best they possibly can. As well as teaching, I have my Certificate III and IV in Fitness which means I’m a qualified personal trainer and have a wide range of knowledge towards weight/resistance training, cardio/fitness training and high quality nutrition/eating. I play Aussie Rules Football in the WAFL for Swan Districts Football Club and am part of the leadership group. As well as football my training consists of gym work, swimming, boxing, bike riding, and F45 functional training. In addition, I love sports like Basketball, Cricket, and Tennis and have played each of these sports at a competitive level at some stage during my life. I am excited to meet the students, parents and Aveley community in 2021!

20.01.2022 Every year Aveley Secondary College supports local families in need with a food drive. This year we are supporting OzHarvest with the collection of non-perishable in-date food items such as pasta, long life milk and canned foods. Donated items should be taken to Student Services and can earn our students one house point per item.

20.01.2022 Our Year 8 Visual Art Students have been inspired by the local artist Melski Mcvee to create their own paintings focusing on Australian flora and fauna. They have been working extremely hard to create some original compositions utilising acrylic paint and paint pens. We are excited to see their finished Artwork so we can share it with you all.

19.01.2022 Miss Evans has been working with our Year 8 Visual Art students on a very special art project. The students have been given the opportunity to create jewellery and key rings from their own artwork! We are very proud of the creative artwork they have produced and the way the students have supported each other and engaged with the project.

19.01.2022 Our students from the STEM programming club are taking part in the First Lego League Challenge 2020 and have been busy programming away ready for the first round of the competitions. We are pleased to announce that this year, Aveley Secondary College we will be hosting the event on Thursday 3 December where other competing teams from 6 Primary and Secondary schools will be on site for the day. 19.01.2022 We would like to introduce some of our fabulous student leaders for 2020. They will act as the Aveley Secondary College student voice, putting forward ideas, concerns and causes on behalf of our student cohorts including assisting with fundraising projects. Our student leaders have already started to brain storm some innovative ideas to meet our students social and emotional needs through home room and lunchtime activities. A new initiative for 2020 is our year 9 student leaders mentor program; where they will lead and offer guidance to our year 7 and 8 student leaders. Thank you to Mr Wheeler for helping to coordinate our student leaders.

18.01.2022 We are pleased to announce that Ellenbrook will have a Cadet Unit. 500 Army Cadet Unit will commence very soon and be based at Aveley Secondary College. We are very excited to be a part of this wonderful community initiative. The Unit will be for the whole community and will be a great convenience for a number of our students already enrolled in Cadets. 18.01.2022 Our second group of Year 6 students had their orientation today. It is wonderful to see so many students fully engaged and keen to start their secondary schooling with us.

17.01.2022 Our Media Academy students have been given a 20 day Photo Challenge where they capture 20 themes in 20 days. This challenge encourages them to look at their environment through the lens of the camera with themes such as colourful, nature, curves, and shadows etc. At the end of the Photo Challenge students will pick their best photos to create an audio visual montage, which will introduce editing skills. Later in the term they will be given a short film task, introducing basic filming techniques. Registrations are still open for some Academies via the Qkr! 16.01.2022 Introducing the first of our new staff joining us in 2021. Caitlin's background will add strength to many of our programs and we are really excited to have her joining our team. Hi everyone, I am excited to be joining Aveley Secondary College in the Health and Physical Education Department in 2021. I am an enthusiastic and energetic educator who loves teaching Physical Education and Dance! Prior to pursuing my teaching vocation, I studied a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Ph...ysiology. I bring with me, extensive knowledge in the field of strength and conditioning and musculoskeletal rehabilitation and look forward to using this experience to contribute to the extra-curricular activities on offer at Aveley Secondary College. I have a passion for competitive sports including Netball and Basketball and was privileged to represent Australia in the finals of the World Dance Championships in Florida, USA in 2019. I am excited to meet the students, parents and Aveley community in 2021!

15.01.2022 Introducing Jorja Knight, another outstanding new talent joining our Corporate Services Team. Jorja’s specific skills and experience with the Department of Education will be a fantastic resource for our college. We are very pleased to have her join our team. Hi, I’m Jorja and I’m excited to be a part of the Aveley Secondary College Community and to be joining the Corporate Services Team. I have worked for the Department of Education for the past 13 years and all my experience is within HR type roles within the Department; 11 years within the Recruitment Department and 2 years in the Payroll Department. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and getting to know you all.

15.01.2022 Some of our students have been involved in the Minecraft Teacher Trainers academy. In this academy, the students have been developing their leadership and collaboration skills to construct fantastic lessons for their teachers. A lot of work and preparation has been put into creating lessons on various aspects of using Minecraft For Education as a teacher. The students have been teaching staff how to use Minecraft to create more engaging and creative lesson plans in their classrooms. Our teachers have really enjoyed having the tables turned and receiving high quality instruction from their students.

14.01.2022 We hope you are all enjoying the school holidays. As we are now half way through the academic year, please ensure students are well prepared on their first day back with stationery supplies. Students return to school on Tuesday 21 July.

14.01.2022 Last week saw the first group of students to use the new trade area in Technologies. All the students productively took part in the bricklaying tasks. We are very proud of the enthusiasm shown by all students who are building new skills and layering their existing knowledge in our new facility.

12.01.2022 It is our Interhouse Athletics Carnival tomorrow. Students can purchase a sausage sizzle for $2 each all day. Students should wear their physical education uniform or house colours for the day. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing requirements, Aveley Secondary College has decided not to permit spectators at the 2020 Athletics Carnival. Whilst this is a regrettable decision, we are hopeful that we will be able to invite friends and family to our 2021 carnival as usual.

11.01.2022 Introducing Elaine Castledine, a fantastic new addition to our Corporate Services team. Elaine will be based in Middle School Student Services and will be a kind and supportive face for our students. Hello ASC Community, I am excited to be a part of the Aveley Secondary team. I come from a varied admin background in public, private and special educational needs secondary colleges, as well as having worked in the private sector. The support and welfare of all students is important to me and I am thrilled to be joining the College community.

11.01.2022 Introducing David Gellé who is a qualified civil engineer joining our Science team in 2021. David is experienced in the oil and gas industry and will provide expertise around physics content for our students. Hello Aveley Secondary College Community! My name is David Gellé and I will be joining the Aveley Science Department at the start of 2021. I first studied at the University of Western Australia, and was awarded a Masters with Distinction in Civil Engineering. I went on... to work as a Civil Engineer, particularly on oil and gas pipelines and subsea structures. I made a career change into teaching, and am hopeful, through this opportunity at Aveley Secondary College, to encourage students to pursue excellence and foster a culture of life-long learning. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and becoming part of the Aveley Community in 2021.

10.01.2022 This term, some students in our Education Support Hub held their first Garden Day. Students in Room 6 supported every student in the hub to plant a vegetable by sharing their knowledge of the gardening process. They then gave each student an information card explaining the 5 needs of caring for their plant to ensure healthy growth.

10.01.2022 Sharon is the next of our wonderful new staff coming on board for next year. Sharon will be working in our Education Support hub, where her love of literature and the Arts will create an inspiring activities for our students. My name is Sharon Rodgers, and I am thrilled to be joining Aveley Secondary College as an Education Support Teacher in the Education Support Hub. Previously I have worked as a Student Enrichment Teacher and Education Assistant. I am studying a Master of ...Special Education through the University of Southern Queensland, I have a Master of Teaching and Learning through the University of New England (NSW) and I also have a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Creative Writing and Children’s Literature. My favourite pastimes include writing short stories and photographing portraits and landscapes. I am passionate about Education Support and working with students to achieve their individual goals. 10.01.2022 Our 16 ASC Academies have commenced this week, registrations for some academies are still available via the Qkr! App. Academy registrations are open until the end of next week. Students had great fun participating in our AFL and Contemporary Arts academies yesterday.

10.01.2022 Visual Art is proud to announce that Aveley Secondary College had three artworks selected to be part of "Hypervision" this year. Congratulations to the following students Year 9 Ceramics (25 Students), Year 7 Ceramic tiles (Trimester 2 - 30 students), Year 7 student Caetlyn Ps painting and Year 9 student Jennifer Ls Lino Print. The exhibition is highly regarded and features the work of young artists working across disciplines showcase artworks that discuss, display and explore the concept of self. Hypervision is an annual youth art exhibition at Midland Art Centre created and run by the City of Swan Hyper Team. If you wish to view the artworks the gallery is open Saturday 11- 3pm and Wednesday - Friday 10 -5pm from September 4 - 26th.

10.01.2022 Today we hosted our first group of Year 6 students for their orientation day. This included a sample timetable and lots of information to help prepare students for their transition to Aveley Secondary College next year.

09.01.2022 As part of our student voice initiative, twice a year our students are offered the chance to acknowledge the exceptional efforts and commitment of our staff. We will be highlighting two staff appreciation awards from students each round. "Thank you for helping me when I needed it, I didn’t have help from anyone before but you did as soon as I came to your classroom. I thought I was going to fail but you didn’t let that happen. I know I’m stubborn sometimes and goofy but I still very much thank you Miss Gray."

09.01.2022 ASC offers accelerated Maths learning content for our year 7, 8 and 9 students. It was wonderful to see such commitment from our Year 7 students bright and early on Monday morning, displaying our four school values: Respect, Appreciation, Responsibility and Perseverance.

07.01.2022 Our college Teacher-Parent interview night was held on Wednesday 22 July. It was great for our teachers to receive so much positive feedback regarding learning, programs and support offered at ASC. Some fantastic work is being produced by our students and families are pleased with their childs progress.

07.01.2022 This week ASC students and staff are celebrating Wellness Week. The student leaders together with our amazing Student Services staff have put together fun and informative activities based on positive wellbeing. So far students have carried out wellness activities in Homeroom classes and lesson time. Students will take part in R U OK Day and the first ASC Wellness Expo on Thursday 10 September: Many external wellbeing agencies and community groups will be holding an info...rmative and interactive booth where all students will be able to ask questions relating to wellbeing. The Boost Juice- Boost Mobeel will be selling fruit crushes (only) and we are very lucky to have DJ Chocolate entertaining us. Students are permitted to wear their PE uniform for the day tomorrow as some of the activities are based on physical activity. This Expo will finish on Friday with a visit from the Perth Wildcats and a staff vs students basketball match. See more

07.01.2022 Just a reminder that our Breakfast Club runs every Wednesday from 7.30-8.15am in our Cafe. Students can make their own breakfast from the available selection and start their day off with full bellies and big smiles.

07.01.2022 Vassy is a great new addition to our Science team, with her wealth of experience and knowledge particularly in the field of Chemistry. With her PHD and practical industry related experience her appointment will be wonderful for our budding scientists. Hi, my name is Vassy Rudrum, and I’m thrilled to be joining Aveley Secondary College as a science teacher in 2021. I obtained my Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) and Bachelor of Science (Chemistry, Honours) at Curtin University.... I then stayed on and completed a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry. I was employed as an academic at Curtin University’s Department of Chemistry for 6 years, a role I thoroughly enjoyed. I taught hundreds of students during my tenure, all from diverse backgrounds and enrolled in various undergraduate degrees. I then went on to work at a chemistry research organisation for over 4 years, where I created new pharmaceutical drugs for a number of high profile clients. I look forward to teaching and promoting science at Aveley Secondary College within its wonderful facilities. I want to show my students the power of a good quality education, to aim high and have pride in their work.

05.01.2022 The link to our online form for our Year 9 and 10 Subject Selections has been emailed to families today. This is an exciting time for our students where they get to pick subjects around their interests, strengths or intended pathways. It is also a special year as it will mark the opening of our second stage buildings, which include exceptional Arts facilities. 04.01.2022 Todays carnival was wonderful to see so many students participating and such a great atmosphere. There were spectacular individual performances as well as awesome displays of team work and participation. Ultimately there had to be a winner.... and the 2020 Carnival Champions are Quenda.

04.01.2022 The second student voice nomination we would like to share for this round is for Ms De Leon. She is an amazing Science teacher and doing great work inspiring our students. "By helping me believe in science and now I have gone from hating science to loving it and wanting maybe to do something with science in the future. She is such a nice person and is a very good teacher. She explains everything so well and does such interesting things in class."

03.01.2022 Miss Leavers Year 9 Textiles class have been exploring fabric treatment this term. When deciding a medium to apply dye to, the students were interested in creating pillow cases to match with their own pyjama garment that they created last term. The students researched fabric treatment techniques and constructed the pillow, before customising their design with their chosen tie dye technique.

03.01.2022 In Home Economics the newest group of Year 7s have started the trimester with a practical activity. Each student is creating their very own customised iPad Case to use for the BYOD program at the college. Our students spent two weeks developing their sewing machine skills before beginning their iPad cases. Every student is showing our mutual agreement of perseverance during the construction process.

03.01.2022 Aveley Secondary College is excited to announce the Year 9 Dance film, Robotica, will be featured in the Act-Belong-Commit YOH 'Screen'Fest showcase under the Dance, Solo/Duo Drama and Short Film Showreel category. 02.01.2022 Room 1 are learning about Spain this term and made a traditional Spanish dessert for afternoon tea today. They kindly invited Room 6 and Ms Barrett our Associate Principal to share the churros with chocolate sauce. Austin delighted us all with a sweet poem about sugar. All of our ESH students have been voting for their favourite name for Room 5s classroom pet giraffe, we are pleased to announce the winning name is Tilly, we look forward to room 5s new theme next term.

02.01.2022 Introducing Mitch Hattie who is another one of our amazing new additions, joining our Math's team next year. Mitch comes with a unique background including industry experience. My name is Mitch Hattie and I’ll be joining the Maths Department in 2021. I completed a PhD in Chemistry at UWA and have worked in the pharmaceutical industry, followed by a stint in business. I went on to study a few short courses in Mandarin at NTNU in Taiwan, and learning Mandarin has become one of my most favourite hobbies. I’m a lifelong learner and look forward to dispersing my curiosity and passion throughout Aveley Secondary College and the wider community.

02.01.2022 Mr Broderick was delighted when his car won the dragster race!

02.01.2022 Some of our Year 9 students are loving learning all about World War One in their HASS classes. They have been working on developing their source analysis skills, and are becoming experts at annotating symbols and messages in propaganda posters. They are learning so much about the factors that influenced young men to enlist in the war. We are all looking forward to learning about the triumphs and tragedies of WW1 that will follow in the coming weeks.

02.01.2022 Our Year 8 HASS students have been busy investigating landforms and landscapes from around the world. Recently, students have been storytelling using maps through Google’s Tour Builder software. Nothing beats an old-fashioned globe though, displaying our world map in three dimensions. Not to mention they are fun to spin! Using her skill with a paintbrush, Year 8 student Makayla Dunnings has brought new life to this world globe, which will be proudly displayed in Mr Udy’s classroom. Makayla has used bright and vibrant colours to help countries stand out, including some surprises hiding in the oceans!

01.01.2022 This week is the last week of Home Economics for our second group of Year 7 students. Our students have worked hard to develop their skills over the trimester and were able to demonstrate all their learning in the final lesson while making Macaroni and Cheese. Students created their own roux sauce from scratch using butter, flour, milk and cheese, which is quite complex! We are proud of their achievements and hope to see them return to Food Technology and Textiles as elective subjects in Year 9.

01.01.2022 The Year 9 Food Technology students spent their last practical lessons creating some delicious holiday themed gingerbread biscuits. They worked hard over two lessons to prepare and present their gingerbread, extending their technique by using the piping method they learnt in a recent 'chocolatiering course'. The Technology department were proud to see the creative flair our students have and are excited to see what Gingerbread House designs they can come up with in Year 10 Food Science.
