25.01.2022 What does the age old craft of paper dolls have to do with The Avenue?

23.01.2022 "The Spring Project" is the next stage in our focus on 'abundant life' at The Avenue during the various stages of Covid 19 isolation this year. Many people across the congregation have contributed to these projects; a truly intergenerational affair! It's an affirmation that , while our building may be closed, the church isn't, and neither is GOD's Spirit. We believe that the world around us gives glory to the creativity, mystery, and sacredness that we understand as GOD. Thanks to everyone who has joined in the fun and ministry of these projects, and watch this space!

21.01.2022 Our Christmas service times for 2020

20.01.2022 Here's just a few pictures of The Avenue's wonderful Pentecost 'Paper Doll' project. The pentecost experience of GOD's spirit with us, leading us out from behind our closed doors (John 20:19-23), speaks into our Covid experience of lockdown and beyond... We begin with a 'Pentecost Prayer Room' on Zoom, then opened the doors to the street, where something over 300 dolls have been placed. Great job by the Project Team and church members!

18.01.2022 The Rev. Nadia Bolz-Weber, Lutheran pastor and author (and now podcaster - The Confessional) offered this reflection yesterday, which I think is a perfect respo...nse to the "White House Commandment." I do not know when we can gather together again in worship, Lord. So, for now I just ask that: When I sing along in my kitchen to each song on Stevie Wonder’s Songs in The Key of Life Album, that it be counted as praise. (Happy 70thBirthday, SW!) And that when I read the news and my heart tightens in my chest, may it be counted as a Kyrie. And that when my eyes brighten in a smile behind my mask as I thank the cashier may it be counted as passing the peace. And that when I water my plants and wash my dishes and take a shower may it be counted as remembering my baptism. And that when the tears come and my shoulders shake and my breathing falters, may it be counted as prayer. And that when I stumble upon a Tabitha Brown video and hear her grace and love of you may it be counted as a hearing a homily. And that as I sit at that table in my apartment, and eat one more homemade meal, slowly, joyfully, with nothing else demanding my time or attention, may it be counted as communion. Amen. -Nadia Bolz-Weber

10.01.2022 Have a look at "Be Connected" by the Australian Government. It is an excellent source for on-line resources. https://beconnected.esafety.gov.au/

07.01.2022 You might remember seeing pictures of our Pentecost Paper Doll Project (posted on 3rd June). Community response to this project has been really positive, so we decided to repurpose the dolls into a new project. WATCH THIS SPACE! In the meantime, here's the video of the dolls, for your enjoyment.

06.01.2022 This is the third of our Covid projects, aimed at using our building as a kind of billboard witness for the community. The building may be closed, but the congregation isn’t, is the vibe we’re going for. The paper dolls from our Pentecost are still with us, now reshaped into new expressions of life and hope, with the theme Love is at the heart of it. Even as the public work on the project happened, we had people saying to us I hope you’re not taking the dolls down!, and Thank you, I love what you’ve done here. It seems that brightening people’s day is an important gift in these times!
