21.01.2022 Minis are a great way to take a break from more complex large works (they are 15 cm square, a lovely size). This one newly ‘minted’ today is Blackmans Bay When she is calm oil on canvas, 15cm square, $100.

19.01.2022 I still remember the momentum of running down to the steep path to the beach. The cadence of the wooden steps, set into the dunes. A tumble at the bottom into the white squeaking sand, warming in the morning sun. A tangle of succulents and pale green Marram grass. The gentle swoosh of the waves coming in sets, dancing across the sand. The lure of the rock pools as they sparkle in the light and contain their hidden worlds. The shallows are my happy place and also where the wa...ter overlays the golden rocks to render the seaweed and the anemones jewel like. I know what they mean when they say the devil is in the detail though. The overlaying of water and light and shadow are tricky to get right but onwards we go layering the paint until it gets there. These are details of the rocky shallows at Telegraph Beach looking across at the Hazards, those glistening granite giants that define the Freycinet Peninsula on a sparkling blue day. I will show you the finished painting once I have stopped faffing about with it... Have a happy Saturday my friends!!
